It glared at James. "You should be better than anyone else! Why do you keep disappointing me?"
"Because I'm not perfect," James explained. "And because I'm human."
"What are you trying to say?"
The boy pushed the monster away and stepped closer to James. He placed a comforting hand on James' shoulder. "Don't worry about them," he whispered. "They're only trying to hurt you because they want to use you."
James took a step back, surprised.
"There's nothing to fear," the boy said. "Everything is going to work out just fine. In fact, it has already worked out pretty well so far."
"What happened? How did you get here?" James asked. "How did I get here?"
"I was waiting for you to arrive," the boy said. "So I could tell you how wonderful things really are here. Everything is just so much better. There is no war or pain. In fact, there is no one to cause such a thing."
What the fuck were these two saying? He had no idea.
