Eden stood there, his eyes red and bloodshot, his hands trembling, an obvious sign of his addiction. He had heard rumors about what Isabella had said regarding their broken engagement and could no longer bear the weight of those words without confronting them. He searched for her in the academy courtyard, where she stood surrounded by her friends, all laughing and chatting cheerfully.
Eden approached her, his heart pounding. "Isabella," he said in a hoarse voice, "I need to talk to you."
Isabella looked up at him, her ruby eyes shining with disdain. "Oh, look who it is," she said loudly, drawing everyone's attention. "Poor Eden..."
The other students turned to watch, curious about what would happen. Eden took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Is it true what I heard? That you said horrible things about me and our engagement?"
