Chapter 11 - Making Friends

The staring contest lasted for a few more seconds but the zombie seemed to get bored and moved. Instead of attacking he turned and walked slowly towards the other side.

"Hey! Wait." Amy feeling like she got through to the zombie went up to it. The zombie sent a space blade to her out of the blue. Caught off guard, she fell to the ground and the guy who was walking ahead turned around to attack her with a follow up space blade.

Amy is angered by the sneak attack and as if a gymnastics, she nimbly avoided all the attacks while releasing a strong plant gas to knock people to sleep.

This is not the non lethal fall asleep gas, It will confuse the mind and course the opponent make mistakes. However, the gas doesn't seem to be working on this guy so Amy pulled out a gleaming long blade from the space.

This is one of the knives she stole looted from the dying couple's weapons shop. Handling the blade she felt comfortable all over, she has missed the feeling of killing a formidable foe. She looked at the zombies and pointed her gleaming knife to his head. The entire person gives off a wild aura, making people feel like a demon has surfaced.

"I must be out of my mind trying to make friends with a sneaky fella like you." She appeared behind him and slashed in the neck. The difference in height made is a bit difficult to take it down with a single swing.

The zombie disappeared from his position and appeared further away. As soon as he could, he sent a space blade to her, she didn't move this time and just made a space barrier in to protect herself.

"I see that you can only release one space blade at a time." What she didn't say is that it means she can dodge his attacks if it is just one blade.

She locked the space around them and had a close fight. She misses it, the rush of the adrenaline as she slice through the enemy with her sword. But the fight with the zombie is even better, it's more primal.

She attacked, hacked, cut and tried to dehead the zombies but the fella just keeps moving and then uses his metal sharp nails to pary the blade on her hand. This zombie has a very strong body, standing it is like trying to stab a metal wall.

The zombie doesn't bother with trying to match her speed when it saw she is too fast. Instead it opted to guard the neck and head. Amelia could have finished this fight a long time if she could use her spirit power to coat the blade. The problem is she is keeping a space lock around herself and the zombie while having close combat with him.

She needs the rest of her power to not be exhausted sooner rather than later. The fight went on, this created a stalemate. The zombie is immovable, sturdy as a wall while Amelia is persistent. The sound of metal clashing sounded in the empty walkway.

She would slash the sharp knife, but as long as it isn't coming towards the head or neck, the zombie let her slash. In the end she became frustrated first and jumped away from him while locking the space tightly around him.

Unless he has a higher level of understanding for the space lock than her, he will not be able to get out of it. Breathing shallow breaths, she released multiple space blades inside the locked space.

Taking back the space lock expecting a mess of withering flesh but what she saw are cleanly cut solid metal blocks.  The head was miraculously avoided by the blades and only the left ear is cut out.

She sent another blade and cut through the head exposing a bright crystal nuclei of three colors. One transparent, one pure white and one metal color.

"What a gifted fellow. Such a shame that you are gone. I will bury you so that your talent will melt into the ground, blessing the future children. Bai Min. Rest in pieces." She said reading a name tag.

A former genator of the hospital. Wondering how many noble doctors did he eat in his prime? Amelia went to sleep inside her space. The fight showed her she is not invincible in this world and still needs power to grow.

She went about continuing her business. After dealing with one known threat, she is full of energy to finish her task. The third lower floor is cleaned in the same day.

Problem number one, the fourth lower floor is not accessible. She went to the fifth and sixth lower floors where she had to battle a few powerful zombies but she finished the job in less than a week although she was looking like a zombie from the boredom.

The fourth floor seems very secretive and fishy. It must be some sort of valuable treasure hidden there. Amy is not in a hurry to find out. Instead she went back up to the upper floors where she didn't clean yet.

To her surprise, the upper floors are full of survivors at one place, children are kept in constant sleeping state so they don't cry and make noise. She is stunned seeing the operation in the upper floors.

She looked carefully for zombies and found them one by one. It seems someone had closed off the entry from the 11 floor and condemned everyone below. The problem is that the food from each kitchen in every floor is now gone. The doctors and nurses think the government is going to come to the rescue anytime now.

She didn't stop looking for zombies and goes to kill when she finds them. This operation took longer the hospital is not just tall. It is also wide in length housing tens of thousands of people.

She spent a week on this and finished. She went back to the lower fourth floor. The power has improved from constant use during these days to the peak of eight level. This is somehow not very useful to Amy who has never been inside the locked door of the fourth lower floor.

She hoped the earth power will allow her to drop in. She went to the wall on the side and used the earth moving spell. The wall didn't move. It must be the cement holding it tightly.

She went to the upper floors to looking for a person who is supposed to have access to this place. She has cleaned the hospital main building but there are many other outside buildings housing zombies.

There is a bloody mountain of crystal nuclei in one of the storage rooms in her space. Even her new body now has a bloody aura of a bloodthirsty killer. As a cultivator, she can release a devastating killing Intent.

She found an office of the director and easily opened the safe using her mental power to move the gears in the door of the small safe. The files are  confusing for a non medical major like herself so she went to kidnap one  lover looking doctor.

The ward she targeted is full of people who seem to be wearing previously white lab coats and are currently having a discussion in low voices.

"It has been three days and the roaring zombies in the lower floors have quieted down. We should go look for food." One said.

"Dr Su is young and vigorous, it is true the new tide pushes the old tide forward. Please lead us to prosperity Xiao Su." A sarcastic older man said in response.

It is clear the man doesn't take the young doctor serious at all. The others laughed in low voices but the health value of these people is clear. They are still full of spirit to make jokes on each other. Amelia decided to knock on the door.

The place became silent instantly. She knocked again but nothing happened. "Yo, where are the doctors at?" Hearing the joking tone outside, the people inside became dazed. Not knowing what to do, they remained silent.

The people outside started talking in hushed voices. Of course this is Amelia changing her voice to sound like many people are talking. PL

"They are wondering why 'zombies' stopped roaring." A Male vole said, although it is a lowered voice it is still clear that it is a Male talking.

"Should we tell them it is because we learned to speak instead?" A female voice asked timidly.

"Are you trying to scare the food away. The plan was to make them trust us and then eat them when they least expect it. Did you forget?" Another different female voice said.

"Oh, sorry guys I am stupid sometimes. Luckily you are all here with me." The timid voice said.

"It's okay, you will go to fool the children next, they are very stupid." The female voice from earlier said in comfort.

"Thank you sister, I won't disappoint you at that time."

"Good, good." The Male voice said.

The people inside are all sweating profusely hearing the conversation from outside. Have zombies actually evolved to this stage?

They have no chance to survive if it is like this. Someone became suffocated and the breathing became hard. A collective gasps sounded.

Amy finally got some entertainment after so long. She then walked inside. A brave hero rushed to stab her with a pointed needle. She of course moved to the side and the gentleman hit the wall with his needle and his entire body bounced off the wall.

"Oh? Still so energetic?" Amy got inside ond took a seat on one of the many chairs inside. She wiped away her smiling face and looked at the all the people one by one.

"Who amongst you has the highest authority in this hospital?" Everyone turned subconsciously to face the man who has been sleeping the entire time she had entered.

The man seems to be in his late thirties, he must be dreaming about eating something good. Amy gestures to wake him. When someone tried to wake him he just turned around to face another side. Seeing they are not getting anywhere she released a vine.

It slithered toward the sleeping man and released a budding plant on the opening of his nose. A pungent smell came out from the blooming flower and the man woke up with a start.

"Dean, this lady wants to talk to you." A female doctor said with a scared expression. She hopes the dean can take this woman out.

The dean stood up. "Who is it? Is the government here yet?" He asked in hope.

"The government turned around and ran when they realized how many zombies are in this place. You can let go of such thoughts in the future. The government can't protect itself." Amy stood up and walked towards him smiling kindly.

"Who are you?" The dean looked at this pretty young lady speaking such harsh words.

Amy stretched out her hand. "I'm Amelia Bold. What should I call this gentleman?" Her mannerisms impeccable.

"Dean Mo. How did you come in?" The man looking at her studied her clean dress.

She is now wearing a light blue summer dress with pretty blue flowers everywhere making her seem very youthful and charming.

"May I have a word in private?" She spoke seriously making Dean Mo nod.

"In your office, your have an office right?" She asked softly.

The dean became speechless. How can he go outside with all the zombies roaring....come to think of it, he hasn't heard that sound inside this building.

"It's dangerous outside. Whatever you want to talk about we can discuss it here." The man looked like a father with a stern expression.

She laughed happily. "Don't worry Dean, I'm tougher than I look. Come with me, I promise to protect you if any monsters jump out from the dark.

She pulled him out even as he had a reluctant face. When she is about to exit the door, she turned around and looked at the people. They all looked down avoiding her eyes.

"You can all go out to check for food. I killed the zombies but I didn't clean up their corpse so you will have do it yourselves. Go ahead and tell the others. Work together to block the broken windows. Only this building has been cleared so be careful." She went out after dropping that bomb.

The people didn't dare to believe but at some point they had no choice but to try and leave the conference room. The dean also listens to her words. Really killed people?

"Now Dean Mo I need something from you. There is a restricted floor in this hospital I need you to open it for me. Can it be done?" She asked this question but after knowing what she has done for this place, he knows there is no other choice because this hospital now belongs to this little girl.

He sighed knowing what comes next is a stain on his conscience. "You must understand this is a private hospital, although we get government funding it is hardly enough to cover 30% of our expenses." He began.

"The money comes from the wealthy families who are looking to get benefits from us. That floor houses the research that our hospital does on behalf of these people." She have him a bottle of water to drink and a single pill.

"This will remove your hunger." She gave him and he took it without hesitation. The immediate effect of the fasting pill made him full of energy again.

"It's human experiments. When a family member they dispise suddenly activates super powers they sell him or her to us for research." He shook his head.

"It is a necessary evil." He continues seeing no judgment from her.

"Has there been any significant results?" She asked. The dean is stunned by her question. But he quickly answers.

"What we found out was the way to identify people with potential for awakening. We also succeeded in building a device to activate these abilities. Although a little painful, the results are undeniable."

"Of course the powerful families hid it and only used it for themselves." He frowns upon saying this.

"You have the device?" She asked.

The dean smiled like a blooming flower. He nodded like a chicken packing rice. "We have three. But I have a request."

"I'm listening." She said.

"There are people being kept inside, please let them go now. They have suffered enough." The old man seem to have aged as he spoke these words.

"You do realize they might come for you as the one in charge of this place?" She asked him.

"It's fine. I don't have any family nor do I have any grand ambitions for this life. I had stayed here to try and find a way for them to be free. Who knew the world will be like this?" He drank more water.

"I have no need for human experiment so you can rest your heart. Can you help me open it now? They must be starving in there." She asked and the dean stood up.

They walked all the way to the lift. When they made it to the lower ground,  the pungent smell of blood became suffocating. The dean wrenched many times but he didn't have anything in the stomach but water.

Seeing the heads rolling in the ground his face became pale. Amy looked at him in puzzlement. "What kind of doctor are you?" She asked. Hearing her ridicule, the dean looked at her with a wronged expression.

Which doctor can handle this? She laughed at him. "Come on before you faint from walking. Tsk, so unhealthy."

They got to the place. The dean opened the large doors. Smelling the foul smell from inside, she asked him to stay outside.

She is about to go in when multiple mental powers attacked her. The floor is drenched is some kind of sticky liquid. Screams come from inside because they tried to attack her with mental power.

She turned on the lights and a clear view presented itself to her. Many pair of eyes looked ar her. There are beds. One of them has a mutilated corpse.

"You are new. Who are you?" Someone asked getting up from the bed. All these people are malnourished. Skin and bones but the eyes are open and curious. Not all of them though.

"Can you walk? I need to take you all out of this place." She asked and the eyes looked at her but no one moved.

The one who had asked before chuckled. "That joke has been used before....new girl."

"What happened to that one?" She pointed to the bloodied corpse.

"She died, we ate her." The boy closed the book he was reading and looked at her as if to study her reaction.

"Are you all able to move around?" She asked and they all nodded.

She released a thick fog of pungent smell. They started coughing untill they couldn't take it. "I said get out. If you persist, the smoke will cook the insides then maybe your friends can eat you nice and crispy."

Someone ran out, then another until they all came out. She called the smoke back into her hand. She looked at the dean. "Take care of them." She then went inside the lab.

"Are really free?"

"It doesn't seem to be a joke."

"Can we leave this hospital?"

"Probably not. Ask the old man"

"Wait, are these dead people?"

"Probably another sick joke by the doctor."

"No, this looks real."

The one who had been reading a book asked the dean. "Can we leave this place?"

"Yes. You may leave." The dean said leading them into a separate place with ten people beds. "Go wash up and when you are ready, you can go. Word of caution, there are zombies outside."
