Chapter 137 - Chapter 137: Battles

[Third Person's PoV]

The War horn was blown, which means the games have begun.

Lucian's hands glowed with a deep purple light as he hovered above the battlefield, manipulating the magnetic forces in his armor. As he rose higher, the others around him also lifted into the air, guided by the same force. Below them, the troops moved into position.

The ones in the air struggled to keep their footing, bracing themselves against the sudden pull. "Are all of you ready?" Lucian called out, his voice carrying over the field.

"Yes!" they responded, steadying themselves in midair.

"Good. Archers, prepare yourselves," Lucian commanded, pulling his hands back before shooting forward, leading the charge with the others close behind. The archers from Apollo Cabin nocked their arrows, ready to strike.

As they flew overhead, they observed Thalia's army splitting into three groups, each advancing in a different direction.

"Focus on the center," Lucian instructed. "Athena's Cabin will handle the west side by the riverbed, and the traps I've set in the forest will take care of the east."

"Begin firing!" Lucian ordered, his tone sharp and authoritative. The sky darkened as arrows rained down from above, catching Thalia's forces by surprise.

Some soldiers fell under the onslaught, while others quickly raised their shields to protect themselves. As the storm of arrows slowed, enemy archers began firing back, but with a simple gesture from Lucian, their arrows halted midair, suspended in place.

"Hephaestus Cabin, prepare yourselves!" Lucian called out.

"Hai!" they responded in unison, raising their shields.

With a wave of his hand, Lucian sent them plummeting towards the ground, their shields up, spears and swords ready. They collided with the enemy ranks, knocking some down and wounding others. Once in the thick of the fray, the Hephaestus children formed a protective circle, shields out, slowly pushing their opponents apart.

Lucian made a beckoning motion, and the arrows hanging in the air flew towards him, swirling around him in a protective vortex. He then directed them back into the quivers of his archers.

He lowered them to the ground, his voice calm yet firm. "Use the surroundings as cover and watch each other's backs."

They nodded in understanding as they descended, ready to continue the fight.

Meanwhile, the Ares Cabin members navigated through the dense woods, using the trees as cover. Clarisse led them silently, signaling with hand gestures. They moved cautiously, their senses on high alert.

Suddenly, Clarisse raised her hand in a halting motion and signaled everyone to keep watch as she spotted something ahead. Two twin boys stood there, swords slung over their shoulders, looking disgruntled as they grumbled to each other.

"What does Lucian expect us to do? He's just feeding us to the wolves, that bastard!" Castor complained, his expression dark.

"I know, right? We messed up, sure, but sending us out here is just cruel. We're not even that strong," Pallox whined, clearly unhappy with their assignment.

Clarisse narrowed her eyes and signaled to her team with a slicing motion, instructing them to take down the twins quickly.

Without hesitation, some of the Ares Cabin members charged towards Castor and Pallox, who seemed oblivious to the approaching threat, lost in their conversation. But just as they closed in, a magic circle flared up beneath their feet, and the ground opened, swallowing them into a hidden pit.

Another magic circle activated near the trees, causing thick vines to shoot out, wrapping around the remaining attackers and dragging them towards the tree trunks.

Castor and Pallox slowly turned to face the ensnared warriors, pulling down their lower eyelids and sticking out their tongues. "Dumbasses," they said in unison, smirking.

"Damn it, the forest is full of traps! Watch your step!" Clarisse shouted, frustration evident in her voice. "And someone take out those idiots!"

The Ares warriors proceeded with extreme caution, tossing rocks and branches ahead of them to test for more traps. Once they thought the path was clear, they resumed their approach.

But as one of them stepped forward, they triggered another magic circle that hadn't activated before. Their eyes flashed red as they suddenly turned and attacked their own comrades, the same fate befalling others who tried to move forward.

"You think Lucian didn't account for baiting the traps? Come on, be smarter than that!" Castor taunted, watching the chaos unfold.

"And just so you know, some of these traps are imbued with our madness, so tread carefully," Pallox added with a wink.

Before they could react, Clarisse hurled her spear with deadly precision, catching one of the twins by surprise and injuring him. She then leaped into the trees, moving swiftly from branch to branch towards them.

Clutching his injured side, Castor turned to Pallox. "Run?"

Pallox grabbed Castor and nodded, "Run."

Elsewhere, as the cabins of Athena and Hermes clashed, Luke charged ahead with blinding speed, his sword a blur as he cut through the enemy ranks. His movements were almost undetectable, a whirlwind of steel and fury.

Annabeth, observing the battle, reached into her purple bag and pulled out a pair of goggles, slipping them on under her helmet. Now able to see clearly from a distance, she turned to Percy. "Keep guard while I deal with Luke."

Annabeth flexed her shoulders, and with a metallic sound, sharp knife-like feathers unfurled from the wings that emerged from her back, glistening in the sunlight.

Percy could only stare in awe as Annabeth took to the skies with a powerful flap of her wings.

Luke, sensing something, instinctively halted and raised his sword just in time to deflect a feather-like knife that had been hurled at him. The knife returned to its place among Annabeth's wings as Luke felt the earth tremble beneath him, his legs suddenly trapped by the ground.

Looking up, Luke saw Annabeth descending rapidly, her wings bristling with lethal intent. He slammed the hilt of his sword into the ground, shattering the stone that bound him, and rolled out of the way just as Annabeth attempted to tackle him.

She landed smoothly, pressing her foot into the ground to pivot and face Luke, her fist striking the earth as she crouched with a smirk. "You're turning scarier by the day, Annabeth," Luke said with a scoff, a smile tugging at his lips.

Annabeth stood up, her expression bright with satisfaction. "What can I say? I've got to keep up with Lucian."

Luke twirled his sword in his hand and pointed it at Annabeth, settling into a fighting stance.

Annabeth mirrored him, adopting a martial arts stance, her metal braces glinting in the sunlight as her wings expanded, the feathers trembling slightly, ready to strike.

Lucian soared through the sky, leaving the chaotic battlefield behind as he zeroed in on his target. Below, Thalia stood resolute, guarding her team's flag, her shield raised and spear poised for battle.

"Of course, you'd fly ahead, coward," Thalia taunted with a scoff, her eyes narrowing as Lucian descended.

Lucian landed with practiced grace, his feet barely making a sound. "What can I say? I missed seeing your beauty so much that I couldn't wait," he teased, a confident smirk playing on his lips.

Thalia's cheeks flushed despite herself, and she grumbled under her breath, "I hate when you do that, you sly bastard."

Lucian only winked in response before closing his fist and making a pulling motion. Instantly, Thalia felt her spear and shield tugged by an invisible force, trying to wrench themselves from her grip. She grit her teeth, refusing to let go.

Lucian intensified the pull, aiming to drag her toward him, but Thalia had anticipated his move. With a shout, she unleashed a burst of lightning, the energy crackling around her and her weapons, disrupting Lucian's magnetic force.

"Smart," Lucian acknowledged with a nod of appreciation.

"What can I say? You don't make it easy," Thalia shot back, her lips curling into a smirk as her entire body became engulfed in an aura of pure electricity.

Lucian's eyes gleamed bright red. "I've always loved battling you," he admitted as his form began to shift, his body turning into a wisp of black smoke.

Thalia responded by transforming into a streak of lightning, her movements as fast as thought.

The two clashed with the speed and power of natural forces, the air around them crackling with electricity and dark energy.
