Chapter 46 - Chapter 46 : Sinnoh-9 [The End]

Archer's pov

As Cynthia and I made our way back towards the outskirts of the ruins, a sense of awkwardness was in the air, stopping the conversation before it began.

It reminds me of the farewell talk I had with a classmate with whom I never interacted in 5 years of college.

Despite our past knowledge of each other, we were literal strangers which made conversation difficult.

THUCK

THUCK

THUCK

The silence stretched on as we trudged through the dimly lit corridors, each lost in our thoughts. It wasn't until we reached a crossroads within the ruins this phase of silence ended.

Cynthia's sharp eyes caught sight of ancient inscriptions adorning the walls of the chamber, her face changing into a thoughtful expression. With a confident gesture, she pointed towards the writing, her voice resonating with authority as she fluently translated the text.

"The way to exit," she declared, her words echoed through the silent chamber.

As Cynthia and I stood before the inscription on the wall, I pointed towards the unknown symbol resembling a zero and the accompanying writing. "Based on the period's context, that unown's meaning is 'no restriction,' and the writing explains the rest," I explained, before stepping forward.

Cynthia quickly translated the remaining text, piecing together the meaning of the inscription. She jogged after me as I moved forward, her voice carrying the newfound understanding. "No restriction towards direct exit. 'Exit' also meant teleportation in the period's language," she concluded.

That incident sparked a conversation between us, breaking the ice. Using that as a lifeline, we delved into the histories of various regions, exchanging stories with practised ease.

As expected of the two trainers, our conversation towards our Pokémon.

With enthusiasm, I introduced each member of my team, detailing their strengths and abilities. In return, Cynthia shared about her Pokémon team, which included a trio of powerful companions and a humble Feebas.

I couldn't help but comment on her ambitious endeavour to evolve Feebas into Milotic. "Quite ambitious of you," I remarked. "After all, without the exact method, it's up to the trainer to navigate the blind path of training. Feebas is the second most difficult Pokémon to train, after Magikarp."

Indeed, Feebas and Magikarp were notorious for their challenging evolution paths, hindered by their species' weaknesses. Yet, as I observed Feebas's stoic demeanour in the face of my words, I internally nodded at my point.

Overcoming mental obstacles was perhaps even more challenging than physical ones.

Cynthia sighed softly but kept the feebas in her arms.

TING TING

Porygon gave his monotone voice, "Teleportation available. Ruin restriction resolved."

With a nod, she recalled her Pokémon team, while Porygon was preparing for teleportation. As the coordinates were entered, our surroundings shifted to the Celestic town.

As we materialized in Celestic Town through teleportation, Cynthia's declaration caught me off guard. "My Feebas will be the most beautiful Pokémon the next time we meet," she proclaimed confidently, her eyes fixed on the Poké Ball containing her feebas.

ZING

I observed the subtle movement of the Poké Ball as it responded to her words. I nodded in agreement, recognizing the active nature of feebas as a qualified Breeder.

"I believe you," I replied, echoing her confidence.

To my surprise, Cynthia's mannerism shifted slightly at my response, her expression momentarily registering surprise before settling into a calm acceptance.

It seemed as though she had expected such a response, taking the compliment in stride as if it were a natural outcome. Inspired by her confidence, I couldn't resist probing further.

"Based on your confidence, I have to ask: why did you say you can't achieve a good position in the Lily Conference this year? With your talent, I would have expected you to aim for something like becoming the youngest winner at 11 years old. The individual I met a few days ago exuded that same confidence but ultimately fell short."

I then pointed at myself and said, "I, too, am confident in my abilities to become the youngest winner."

Cynthia stopped in her footsteps, thinking about my question with a furrowed brow.

After a moment of reflection, she responded, her words carrying a hint of puzzlement. "I am indeed confident that I will win the conference at 11 years old. I will just reach 11 when the conference starts. But it's impossible for me this year," she explained matter-of-factly.

Cynthia reached into her bag and retrieved a wrapped ice cream cone. My confusion must have shown because She clarified herself.

She took a lazy bite of her treat and answered lazily, "I'm currently 9 years old."

=====================================================================

Archer's pov, the Celestic town.

The next day.

It was quite a shock for me to learn that she was 2 years younger than me. I could easily imagine my 9-year-old self and Elekid being sent flying from a sneeze from her Garchomp's sneeze.

I put aside these depressing thoughts aside and focused on the task now.

From my seat, I observed as Porygon2 efficiently processed the data I had provided, making significant adjustments to the preliminary plan I had outlined for improving Pokémon-human relationships in my hometown, utilizing Professor Oak's invaluable data.

"After all," I thought to myself, "if I'm going to establish a gym, I need to ensure I fulfil my duty. It's better to be prepared now and set things in motion immediately after the conference."

As if on cue, Rotomdex beeped.

BEEP

BEEP

"As per your command, Snowpoint to Kanto tickets were booked." it chimed in its digital voice.

Since the flight tickets had been booked to Pewter City. I wasted no time in giving my next instruction. "Rotomdex, make a call to Jonathan."

RING

RING

It took a few seconds before Jonathan picked up, but he sounded upbeat, "Your Pokephone is more convenient than the Poké Gear in the market," he remarked. "Especially the versatile features. The captains who were awarded their Original model were quite happy, and even the ordinary members are clamouring to buy them."

I nodded in agreement. "As long as mass production starts, have it arranged," I replied. "And make sure there are custom models available for the deputies."

Jonathan happily acknowledged my instructions, taking a moment to snap some selfies using his Apex model – a gift from me. Of course, one was given to Sam, Jon and Samantha.

"Say what you want," I thought, "wealth is always a good way to reward loyalty."

I shifted the conversation to a more pressing matter. "So, what's the update on the factory construction?"

Jonathan's response was a resounding positive. "The production block will be completed in a few weeks," he reported. "As for the rest – lounges, R&D labs, and managerial offices – they can be built with the profits from sales. Though I must remind you, most of the sales money will be funnelled back into it for the foreseeable future, considering the loans and establishment costs."

I rolled my eyes at the reminder, knowing full well the financial intricacies involved, given that I had meticulously crafted the plans using data from multiple economic and business management books.

Of course, I hired a team of MBA grads and a consultant to vet them. Outside of Pokemon, I am not that confident in my skills to go ahead with a plan without prior checks.

Almost instantly, the likes started rolling in from Jonathan, Sam, Samantha, Derek, and the rest of the gang. But what surprised me the most was the first like from Archer.

Glancing over at him, I saw Archer engaged in conversation with Christopher about their plans for a new restaurant and hotel business, with Archer playing the role of the primary investor.

His wink, accompanied by the brief shift in his pupils to a silver hue, indicated his simultaneous focus on both the real and digital worlds, most likely due to his connection to Porygon2.

Curious about his digital prowess, I couldn't resist asking him for such a feature, but the response I received was less than enthusiastic.

His face scrunched up in annoyance, revealing his displeasure at being questioned about something he couldn't readily provide. "I can establish a connection," he conceded, "but the data appears in the rawest form of 0s and 1s. If you're willing to interpret and convert them yourself, I don't mind investing in a neuro link headset for you."

That topic is not to be raised ever again.

That topic is not to be raised ever again. Important things must be repeated multiple times.

That topic is not to be raised ever again. Especially if it is about something Archer has no clear understanding of. I don't think my normal brain can even scratch such topics. So, keep reminding yourself my brain. Stay free and happy.

That topic is not to be raised ever again.

As we began the boarding process, we were greeted by familiar faces from the fair—Elm, Sycamore, and to my surprise, Professor Carolina. It quickly became evident that she was there because of her granddaughter, who had sent a farewell message to Archer.

Another connection Archer made and will be connected with Sam for safekeeping.

SIGH

Meanwhile, Christopher's booming voice filled the air as he made a bold declaration. "I promise you, Archer, I will repay your trust by establishing a hotel and restaurant in every city in Sinnoh by the next time you visit."

I couldn't help but stare in astonishment at Christopher's ambitious proclamation, especially when considering the pointed looks from the Passerby's.

But Archer's response took the start to the next level, "Sure, but they better be 5-star hotels."

Archer's casual confidence never ceased to amaze me.

His next words to me, however, caught me off guard. "What's with the look?" he asked, sensing my surprise. "Just so you know, you'll be the one regularly visiting here to ensure my interests are fulfilled."

I always had a foreboding feeling looking at Sam recently, but I felt like crying from the surprise hit by the hammer of responsibility. I was depressed back to Kanto while accompanied by Archer chattering at me to complete an MBA degree.

But I drew the line inhuman list that had my future scheduled for the next decade. I wanted to rebel but the listed shares, money and a group of cronies made me accept under the laughing eyes of Sam. The final blow was emotional blackmail from him, saying I wanted to abandon him and Sam to the massive pressure. And happily, leech off him.

"...You know that you are no different from Dregen at this point?"

Archer smirked at that and replied, "I know. So, I know how effective it is. Might as well make yourself useful, rather than be a glorified travel companion. I will have your phone connected with Viridian Academy's Online MBA classes. Also, keep up you're breeding and Pokemon Training."

Fuck.

Pokebook user Jona Jon: I am currently suffering from depression. Please save me from the inhuman machine that keeps targeting me with the responsibility arrows.

Jonathan's pov

2 days since the phone call, Pewter City Airport, Kanto

I'm at the airport accompanied by Gerad, ready to receive the returning gang.

However, my thoughts stayed on Archer's request to bring all the security forces here for an on-field evaluation. It seems like a drastic measure, but I choose to withhold my comments. After all, Archer has already accomplished so much—the security forces, research labs, electronics factory, and now the breeder house.

It's remarkable to see how the village is transforming with each new development. Personnel are arriving every day to discuss preliminary construction plans and survey the sites. League officials are here for the research labs, and members of the Aether Foundation are overseeing the breeding house.

The projects for the electronics factory and security forces administrative building have been underway for some time now, long before Archer left for his sixth gym battle. Despite my initial doubts, I can't deny the impact of Archer's vision.

[Pewter announcement: The flight no 7545 has arrived.]

As the announcement echoed through the airport, signalling the arrival of the flight from Sinnoh, I swiftly made my way to the passengers' arrivals.

Soon I saw a group of suits arrive centred on a scarred 11-year-old who has started to command the attention of the crowd. He was surrounded by the best squad I had trained, led by Derek.

It was reassuring to see the security detail, especially considering the recent shifts brought to my notice in the Underworld. These changes spelled trouble for Archer.

As the only form of the elder figure in his life, I couldn't shake off this brewing trouble for Archer and HOHO forbid that he is blindsided by the seedy part of Bharata. They won't take his sudden implementation of Research Labs and Breeding House well.

There is a reason both of them are considered the two centres of economy.

However, like any father, my attention soon shifted to my son, Jon, who appeared a bit downcast as he made his way towards us. I couldn't help but feel surprised; just hours ago, he had been posting photo after photo with a wide grin plastered across his face.

Before I could ask about his mood, Archer passed by me, his focused gaze fixed on the task at hand. "Jonathan, did you bring the guys?" he asked, his voice tinged with urgency.

I inwardly sighed, realizing it was time to get down to business. "Yes," I replied, "they're all waiting for you at the hotel I booked. It wasn't easy mobilising over 200 trainers, but they're here."

I hope there won't be such large-scale operations in future. The logistics are a nightmare but considering the grand plans seem to give birth every day Archer, It might be better to get used to it.

"Good, have them all vacate and ready themselves. Also, rent me an RV, the trip to Sinnoh made me fall in love with the comforts it offers."

"Alright."

Just like that, my so-called parental needs were crushed and swept away at Archer's rapid pace. Now, I am starting to understand Dregen a lot. Rather than making myself a fool trying to dictate things, it is better to just discuss the info with him.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Temporal move: Time skip

The time seemed to blur as I got to work, RV was hired from a nearby tourist office. While for the rest Buses were rented for the trip. A trip that started immediately making me question whether Archer even experiences Jet lag.

So, under the red-hot sun overhead, we started on the road.

WHROOM WHROOM

It was good that the permission for a Breeding House task was registered and accepted. Otherwise mobilising this many trainers would have visits from Officer Jenny.

Athul Breeding House is a name that talks about his ambition to establish a multi-field business. Considering there is already an Athul Electronics. I could already see a master company managing them all.

From what Jon tells me, Archer wants Jon to head and supervise this massive business.

SMACK

I held Jon by the collar and lifted him in front of my face, "You will get that damn MBA degree. You will ace the exams and get those gold medals. If you don't I will feed you to my Garchomp. Trust me when I say this, He wants to have a go at you for pissing on him as a child."

GULP

Jon shouted back, "I am your son."

SMACK

SMACK

SMACK

"I am your father."

SMACK

SMACK

"Say it."

"You are my father."

SMACK

After one more smack for good measure, I rubbed my palm on my thighs. It is really difficult without a hand. Especially when smacking sense into an idiotic lazy son. Dear Hoho, he is a smart kid. I never saw him read a single time in his life, but he always ranked in the Top 10 in the school.

Rather than waste his talent, I better be a cruel dad who beat him on the right path.

THUCK.

The rented RV and Buses came to a halt at the foot of Mt. Moon, and soon, the entire security force disembarked, assembling in neat rows of ten.

KATA

KATA

KATA

I couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as I looked upon the assembled group. They were a testament to the hard work and dedication we had poured into their training.

However, my pride took a hit when Archer clicked his tongue disapprovingly after reviewing the data I had handed over. "All in all, they're only at the level of fourth gym badges," he remarked casually.

While it might seem informal to gauge their skill level based on gym badges, it was a reasonable approximation. Most of the security force members were indeed at that level, with a few scattered individuals boasting fifth or sixth gym badges.

Derek's squad of twelve stood out as particularly skilled, having a history of being qualified for the prestigious Indigo Conference.

However, Archer's disappointment is more from his exceptional training abilities rather than common sense. In just about a year, he had formed a team aiming for first place in the tournament. So, I can say common sense is not in the thinking zone.

I couldn't help but reflect on the impromptu battle against Blaine, which had been broadcast across three regions: Sinnoh, Hoenn, and Indigo.

It was an incredible fight, and if the level of the Gym trial was anything like that, I could only envision a handful of individuals passing each year from Blaine.

These handfuls are usually the Top 8 of the Indigo conference every year.

Archer, Steven Stone and Sabrina's name were being forecasted among the top 8. Fucking hell, I only saw psychic once in a while in special forces. But to see a live one participating in live TV was a shock.

Especially with her already getting the 8 gym badges using a single Pokemon. The level of absurdity is unheard of in years.

Archer's booming voice cut through the air, commanding the attention of everyone present. "Attention, people!" he shouted at the top of his voice, his words echoing off the walls of the mountain. "You have trained for months since joining the security forces. All in all, you are like a students who passed their exams. Now is the time to face society."

I couldn't help but nod in agreement with Archer's words. While they had been rigorously trained to be security officers, many of them lacked job experience.

If they were to fulfil Archer's vision of becoming his representatives to maintain peace between Pokémon and humans, ensuring the security of the areas under his future gym jurisdiction. They will also be acting as security detail and Pokémon hunters for his breeding house.

Considering the many roles, they need to have the necessary experience and knowledge.

Something I can't provide, I can only train them for group discipline and tactics using my military background. As for Pokémon training and all the finer shit, it is Archer's Task.

So, we are here for the first task of the Athul security force.

A Pokemon Gathering request from Athul Breeding house. Their hunter tasks are meant for rare and difficult to find rare Pokemon groups that are meant for Breeding houses. But the added clause is to follow all the league rules while doing it.

They needed to commit to their future tasks without disturbing the delicate ecological balance of the region. Some tasks are even prohibited in some restricted areas.

Even established breeding houses struggle to comply with the league rules properly, often facing significant challenges that drive them to ruin. Archer on the other hand is adding more responsibility to the Security force, in a bid to make a comprehensive elite force that can do the tasks of all his establishments.

Sam jokingly calls them as glorified minions whose meaning of life is to act as Archer's Arrows which bolt towards the target of his wishes.

As Archer stood in front of the wide cave entrance of Mount Moon, his presence commanding and authoritative, he declared, "I declare the start of the Kanto expedition."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Author's Note: There you have it people. My answer to people's doubt about Archer just settling down. I wrote this because I felt the same journey repeating over and over is boring. This is better with expeditions for breeding houses, security tasks, Research tasks and even small-scale trips like this one.

If it feels glaring that the adults in the fanfic are not being proper adults to Archer, I can only point out that Archer is also not being normal. He is like a weird mix of Sheldon and Gohan for them.

Please leave a review.

All in all, you are like a student who passed their exams.
