Chapter 21 - Aubert's Training (Part 4)

"Help!"

I turned around and saw a tall gingerbread man running away from donuts of different flavors that are shaped like dogs?

The gingerbread man looked scared. His icing eyes widened as he glanced back at the donut dogs, who were barking loudly in pursuit.

Seeing his expression, I knew he needed help, and what my Papa said: I should help those in need.

Also, seeing a gingerbread man running and being expressive excites me!

"Ylf!"

I started flying toward the gingerbread man, who was still being chased by the dogs.

"Hello there!" I greeted him with a smile.

The gingerbread man frantically turned around to look in my direction with his icing eyes widened.

"P-Please help me!"

The gingerbread man pointed shakily at the donut dogs. "Those... those are the Gluttonous Gobblers! They're the guardians of the Chocolate Chip Castle, and they've gone completely bonkers!"

I gasped, my eyes widening in surprise. Gluttonous Gobblers? Guardians of the Chocolate Chip Castle? It sounded like a story straight out of one of Papa's bedtime tales!

"Bark!"

"Bark!"

The donut dogs continued to bark and chase the gingerbread man, their colorful sprinkles bouncing with each leap.

As the scene unfolded before me, I knew I had to act fast to help the gingerbread man evade the Gluttonous Gobblers.

With a determined nod, I turned my attention to the donut dogs, their sugary faces twisted in determination as they closed in on their prey.

"Hey, stop that!"

I called out, hoping to distract the donut dogs and give the gingerbread man a chance to escape.

But the donut dogs caught up in their chase, paid no heed to my words.

"Bark!"

"Bark!"

Their barks echoed through the enchanted forest, filling the air with a cacophony of sugary sounds.

Thinking quickly, I summoned my magic, channeling Papa's teachings and the lessons from my bedtime stories.

"ezeerF!"

I commanded, casting a spell that sent a wave of icy energy toward the donut dogs.

The air crackled with magic as frost coated the ground, encasing the donut dogs in shimmering ice.

The gingerbread man skidded to a halt, his icing eyes wide with astonishment as he watched the scene unfold.

I rushed to his side, offering him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, they won't bother you anymore."

The gingerbread man let out a sigh of relief, his frosting shoulders sagging with gratitude.

"Thank you, you've saved me from a sticky situation."

I chuckled at his pun, feeling a sense of pride swell within me. It felt good to help someone in need, just like Papa always said.

As we stood amidst the frozen donut dogs, the gingerbread man extended a sugary hand.

"I'm Gingy, by the way. Gingy the Gingerbread Man."

I shook his hand with a smile. "I'm Aubert. It's nice to meet you, Gingy."

Gingy grinned, his icing mouth curving upwards in delight. "Likewise, Aubert."

Gingy then looked at the frozen dogs. "Uhm, could you unfreeze them?"

I raised one of my brows. Gingy was chased by those Donut Dogs, and he wanted me to unfreeze them?

"Why?"

"Well, those dogs are nice, but for some reason, they suddenly became aggressive."

I looked at the donut dogs, their eyes glowing red.

"Gingy, have you noticed their eyes?"

Gingy walked right in front of the frozen donut dogs and looked at them in their eyes.

As he examined the glowing red eyes, his frosting face turned from curiosity to fear, and he shivered.

"AHH!"

Gingy recoiled in fright, stumbling backward.

I rushed to Gingy's side, placing a comforting hand on his crumbly shoulder.

"What's wrong, Gingy?"

"Their eyes... they're not supposed to look like that. It's... it's like they're under a dark spell."

My heart sank at Gingy's revelation. A dark spell? I had only read about such things in Papa's adventurous bedtime stories.

CRACK!

The sound of cracking ice shattered the tense air, sending a shiver down my spine.

"EEK!"

Gingy's startled cry echoed through the landscape, mirroring my rising fear.

As the ice began to fracture, I couldn't suppress a shiver of apprehension, the chilly air wrapping around me like a cloak of uncertainty.

"You've got this, Aubert. Trust in yourself, and remember, magic is as much about heart as it is about spells."

Papa's wisdom washed over me, filling me with a newfound resolve. I had to believe in myself, even in the face of darkness.

CRACK!

The ice fissure widened, and one of the donut dog's heads emerged, its growl reverberating through the air like a thunderous warning.

"Grr!"

My heart pounded in my chest as I faced the donut dog, its saliva dripping in anticipation.

Summoning every ounce of courage within me, I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the challenge ahead.

"G-Gingy, please go behind me," I stuttered, my voice quivering with fear as I instinctively stepped forward to shield my newfound friend from harm.

"W-wait!" Gingy's panicked voice reached my ears, and I felt his trembling hand on my shoulder. "D-Don't hurt them! Those dogs are owned by the Queen! If you hurt them, then I would be in big trouble!"

Gingy's urgent plea sent a shiver down my spine. The Queen's dogs? Trouble? The weight of his words pressed down on me, filling me with a mix of dread and responsibility.

Crack!

The sound of breaking ice pierced the air, intensifying the tension in the frozen landscape.

I watched in horror as the cracks widened, allowing the donut dogs to break free from their icy prison, their movements aggressive and unsettling.

With little time to spare, I knew I had to act fast to keep Gingy and myself safe. But how?

Gingy had mentioned that the dogs were once friendly but had turned aggressive under a mysterious spell.

An idea sparked in my mind. Maybe I could break the spell and restore the dogs to their friendly selves!

CRACK!

The sudden noise jolted me back to reality as the donut dogs emerged from the ice, their presence radiating a dark aura that sent shivers down my spine.

The surge of dark energy felt overwhelming, unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

"Eek! Aubert, what's happening to them!?" Gingy's voice trembled with fear as he clung to me for safety.

The donut dogs came charging toward us, their sweet scent lingering in the air as they bounded closer and closer.

Feeling a surge of magic within me, like the warmth of a cozy blanket on a chilly day, I remembered all the lessons Papa taught me about believing in myself and using magic for good.

With a brave heart, I took a deep breath and summoned my courage. I pointed my finger toward the dogs.

"!niaga ecin emocneB!"

A brilliant red beam shot forth from my fingertips, slicing through the air like a comet streaking across the sky.

The beam hit the dogs, and to my amazement, they stopped in their tracks, frozen in a moment of surprise and wonder.

I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. I had done it! Papa would be so proud when I told him about this magical moment.

"W-What happened?"

I turned to Gingy, my smile widening. "I freed them from the dark spell."

Gingy's eyes widened in disbelief. "R-Really?!"

I nodded proudly, feeling a sense of accomplishment swell within me.

As Gingy cautiously approached the dogs, I watched with bated breath, hoping they would understand that we meant no harm.

Then, something incredible happened. The dogs turned toward Gingy, their eyes filled with warmth and joy.

With tails wagging and frosting smiles, they bounded toward Gingy, their movements filled with excitement and happiness.

I couldn't help but smile with delight as Gingy was surrounded by the playful donut dogs, their sugary energy filling the air with sweetness and joy.
