After the hug Mia went inside the bus. She looked behind one more last time. She was leaving her grandmother for the first time in her. She had never done this before. She had never left her homeland and the people.
Mia got her ticket to see the number she was supposed to sit on and went to sit. She found a man seated next to her seat and smiled at him.
She sat and put her bag on her lap.
" Hello..." She said to the man.
" Hi, May I help you put the bag up ? " The man asked politely. He looked middle aged .
" No thanks. I will hold it. " Mia said to him.
The phone got his smart phone and begun playing videos on it. Mia found herself watching with him. He on tiktok and some videos made him to laugh.
The bus was started at exactly 7pm sharp. Mia put her focus on the outside through the window and said.
' God , This is my first time to travel along distance. Please bless my journey and protect Grandmother and everyone I have left here today. '
She prayed in her head. The tv in the bus was put on and Mia put her focus to it until she dozed off at a time she didn't even know.
Thursday W4
Mia opened her eyes after the loud noise from the passengers that were getting out of the bus.
" Hi, We have arrived. Aren't you leaving ? " Her neighbor asked as he got up to pick his bag.
" I see its still dark outside. I will wait until its morning. " She said.
" Okay..The man said and left. Most people were getting out and the conductor noticed Mia's stiffness and walked to her.
" Hi, Aren't you leaving ? " He asked with concern.
" I am waiting for the light then I can go. " She answered.
" Sorry, The bus has be taken for washing. You can go and wait from our reception. " He said.
" Really ? " Mia asked.
" See, Everyone is going already. Get out.." he said.
Mia carried the bag on her back and left the bus. When she was outside she looked around and all she could see were the tall buildings and lights.
" Wow ! " She murmured and a smile escaped from her lips.
She was standing like that when a man pulled her from her spot.
" Hi, What are you doing staring like that with a bag behind you ? Don't you know it can be snatched ? " The man quarreled.
" Sebo I am sorry , I didn't know about that. " She apologized.
" You look like it's your first time in Kampala ? " He said.
" Yes sir. " Mia didn't lie.
" Well, Where are you going ? I am a boss boda man. I could take you. " He said.
" No thanks. A friend is coming to pick me. " Mia said.
" Ooh, Then go and have a seat as you wait. " The man said and went to look for other passengers.
' I am surprised people wake up at this early morning and they are already working. Its even still dark . i wonder what time it is. '
Mia said in her head as she saw the people who were doing different things within the bus station. Some were selling jewelry, others snacks, Other roasting man and very many other things.
After getting herself a seat, Mia pulled out her phone and it was showing 5:30.
' I can't call Lyton right now. She must be sleeping. '
Mia thought. She had talked to Lyton and Lyton told her to call immediately she arrived in Kampala.
Mia remembered she had the 10k shillings Grace had given her and she pulled it out to buy a bottle of water. She kept the balance and sat there for over an hour while just looking around and appreciating the beauty of the city until it was 6:30 when she had her phone ring. It was Grace calling.
" Grandma, Good morning. " Mia greeted.
" Good morning my dear. Did you reach safely ? " Grace asked.
" Yes Grandma. " Mia answered.
" May God be blessed. Thanks to him you reached well." Said Grace .
" Indeed God is great. But Granny, You woke up so early . " Mia said.
" I was worried about you. And besides that, I am going to the garden to harvest some cabbage. You know it's a market day today. " Grace said.
" I almost forgot. I am sorry I won't be helping you anymore. " Mia said.
" It's okay dear. My mates are here for me. I will talk to you later. " Grace said
" Okay Grandma. Greet them all on my behalf. Bye..",Mia said and ended the call.
Since the light was coming, Mia thought of calling Lyton and she made the call.
Lyton was still in bed bed when she heard her phone ring and she stretched her hand from the blanket to the beside table where her phone was.
She got it and opened her eyes slowly to see who was calling and it was Mia.
' My God ! I forgot she is coming ! ' Lyton cursed and sat on the bed.
" Hi..." She said.
" Lyton, It's me Mia. " She reported.
" Yeah, Did you reach safely ? " Lyton asked.
" Yes. I am here at the bus station. You said you would come for me. " Mia reminded.
" Of course I did. I am...Let come right away. " Lyton said and got up from the bed.
" Okay.." Mia ended the call.
Lyton put on jeans and a Black hoodie plus white sneakers and she left her room.
When she was in the living room Ava saw her and called. " Lyton, Where are you going this early morning ? " She asked.
" Mom, I am going to pick Mia. " Lyton said.
" The girl from Kisoro you told me about ? " Ava asked.
" Yes. She came . " Lyton said.
" Breakfast is almost ready. You wait a bit. " Ava said.
" Mom, The girl doesn't know anyone in Kampala. So...I will have to get her and ..."
" Are you really bringing a village girl to the company ? " Lucas who was coming cut Lyton midway.
