Chereads / Burn and Ash / Chapter 2 - Fog

Chapter 2 - Fog

There was a silence. It was the darkest sky he ever saw. Lack of stars and sound. It was quite an eerie place for Roe. He was never fond of darkness. Even in his death, he tried to look at the sky.

He looked down at himself and sighed. The clothes he wore were a standard white shirt and black pants. There was an iron sword lying beside him on the black soil. Although it was familiar to the old sword, he knew that it was merely a fake one. Duplicate.

Whoever put him here must have an in-depth understanding of him. He reached the scars on his hand, black spots and a birthmark on his crouch. They were all the same. But somehow, deep inside, he knew that this was not his body.

A fake?

He shook his head. Roe looked around the place. All he saw was the darkness. Somehow, he could see the path. It was made for him. Perhaps this is an afterlife.

After all, he just died during the war. He subconsciously touched his stomach. A crack formed in his face.

" Guess, this is how I pass the trial. " Roe muttered. He never believed in God.

As Roe walked in the darkness, he saw the life flashed. It was bizarre. These types of things were supposed to happen when you were drying.

He saw his mother sell him to the merchant for a handful of Gold. He saw the fat merchant using his body. It was not a pleasant moment in his life. But he already accepted that.

Then the scene changed into blood and gore as the knife stabbed the fat merchant's head. He felt regret not because of the death he saw but because he was not the one who delivered that blow.

At the age of 13, he was picked up by a band of barbaric men. From then on, he faced death numerous times. Sometimes, women screamed as they were used by the band. By him.

That fat merchant lived in his mind. It was not an excuse for his evil but it certainly played a huge part in his upbringing. A village was massacred by his leader. Fire was used in that.

Then the scene changed to him killing the leader. Breaking the band and running away from their pursuit.

He avoided them by masking them as a soldier for the Empire. Killing followed him. Over time, death became the norm. Rape became a part of daily life. It was evil.

In the end, he was killed by the giant man. Unsatisfied ending for a man like him. Nevertheless, death is the same.

" Child, do you miss me? "

Roe stopped his steps and looked behind. He saw the fat merchant. He was the same as always with drool coming from his mouth.

Roe stared at the fat merchant. He didn't respond.

" This is the Hell. " The fat merchant laughed. " For people like us. God personally made it for us. I know we will meet again. Oh, Child, I miss you so much. "

" Although, you have grown. We can spend our time here. I have missed your warmth. Come Child, Come. " The fat merchant spread his arms.

Roe turned around and continued to walk into the darkness. He won't be staying in the Hell. Especially the one created by God. Because why did he let bad things happen to him?

Why didn't he stop the evil? That is no God. This is not the Hell.

Maybe because of death, Roe desired a new life. More than ever. He will forget his previous life and create a new one.

Screw the God. Screw this place.

He will personally create a Hell suited for him. He will kill himself for his crime. He will attempt to find that place until the end.

" Then use your sword. " The fat merchant said. Somehow, he managed to read Roe's thoughts.

"I won't. " Roe answered.

" Then you are a coward. You said you would kill Yourself for Your evil. "

" The sword is by myself. It is a tool for my survival. If I kill myself without looking or creating my own Hell, then I am just giving myself to God. This is not cleaning my sins. This is just running away again. Like I run to the battlefield, yearning for the death. "

Roe walked farther into the fog.

" So be it, Child. Find your Hell. Face your sins. "

" I will. "
