Chapter 41 - A calm breath

Because the guy had slammed his head into the wall of a random building, I had enough time to run towards my destination without having to look back. Now, without any interference, I had made it to the building and ran through the stairway. While doing so, I even had enough time to hold the sword properly.

I wasn't certain if the guy would follow through the stairway, but I hoped he would. The chances of him entering the building and walking into my prepared trap did not seem too high as there were a couple of possibilities that could prevent him from doing so.

There were plenty of windows on the second floor that he and I could go through easily as they were big and built quite similar to the doors of a closet. He could think that I might plan to escape through those windows, and might even consider catching me by surprise by using his wind magic to propel himself towards me.

So that was the trouble and worry that I was facing as I held the sword with a sense of doubt about whether my plan would succeed or fail.

This thought had formulated and grown like a dark seed inside my mind the moment my arms became tired from holding the sword in a position that made me ready to strike.

My hands weren't steady. They were shaking, not only because I was holding onto the weight of the sword for too long, but also because I was so anxious to the point that every little detail of my surroundings was caught by my ears.

Every time I would hear the slightest creak coming from one of the windows, I would quickly move my eyes around, scanning the area to see if my enemy was already behind me and not in front of me where I was supposed to swing my sword instead.

It hadn't even been a minute yet, but waiting around made it seem like I'd been standing in place for more than a quarter of an hour.

'Should I just wait downstairs…?' I began to ask myself as I was starting to grow impatient.

However, after making a slight movement to head downstairs, I stopped, freezing my movements completely. I then began to breathe in and out slowly, which brought forth a calm sensation in my mind.

"A good hunter is a patient hunter… If I want to become a predator instead of a prey, I must continue waiting, no matter what the outcome might be..." I muttered after having calmed my mind.

I was able to calm down thanks to a sudden possibility that had formulated inside my mind.

The creaking windows, it was abnormal for them to be a bit frantic when there was no wind in the underground town. It was also impossible for those windows to make small movements and sounds if the man was using his wind magic nearby. This naturally meant one thing, which I was able to figure out quite quickly.

"He's making his way here right now…" I muttered again, a second or two after I had my little enlightenment.

The man was making his way to me, and he was being very hasty with it; I could feel it through the clues from the movements of the doors of the front windows.

'It seems he's still affected by his emotions. Good… I can't allow him to stand still and think. That can not happen...'

After a solid second, I could feel that the man had already entered the building. The sudden faint gush of wind that spread itself inside the building told me enough. I became certain that he was inside the building the moment I heard his voice. He yelled words that although unknown to me, I could understand, as they sounded like the words of someone who wanted to kill me out of frustration or hate.

These words that seemed to be a dead thread didn't make me anxious or frightened like they would usually do to someone. I, for a matter of fact, couldn't help myself from having a peculiar smile after hearing how close he was from the stairway.

I heard the man rushing through the stairway with not a single step that seemed hesitant. He did not use his magic. The reason for this, I did not know, but I guessed it could be either because of his limited magic usage or his bottling rage that didn't allow it. Another possibility flashed in my mind.

'Perhaps he has run out of magic power.' I thought to myself as I heard the man's heavy footsteps creating squeaking noises on the stairway. So far, I could only make uncertain guesses, which is why I stopped thinking about the enemy's actions and the reason behind them.

I didn't have to be paranoid and too curious, especially at a time when I had to focus on the grip that I had on my sword.'Please don't go through the window, please don't go through the window...' I chanted inside my mind as my knees trembled due to how anxious I was feeling.
