Chapter 57 - Help!

I heard the giant screaming and felt the ground trembling.

'It seems he has already become a zombie and seems to be charging towards the nearest sign of life he had found. Luckily, I've moved away from that place.' I thought, after being made aware of the giant's movement.

While thinking, I continued to run away and evade the persistent bolts of fire. While running around, I noticed that I almost missed someone as I passed them by.

The corner of my eyes caught this figure, who looked similar to that magician who had launched that fireball at me, but that seemed to be built differently.

'Shorter perhaps…' I could only guess as much, as there weren't any other details I could get due to how covered the figure was with the robe of his, or hers…

Distracted by the presence of this unknown person, I was caught by the missiles of fire.

"No!" I screamed when the missiles were too close for me to evade, afraid that I would be turned into a fountain of meat and blood, as I assumed it would be since the fireball had the ability to exactly do so.

However, the explosion did not occur. The missiles were actual fire, as displayed, and only caused me to have a terrible burn mark on my back.

The skin on my back was scorched, bobbles of blood popping out of my back and the place was under severe pain again, this time, a burning sensation taking over me.

"Agh!" I wailed in pain, as the burning and stinging sensation overwhelmed my mind whenever my skin contracted a little.

Because of this, moving had become a difficult task, but I didn't give up or let myself fall to the ground, as I knew that there was a way for me to relieve the pain. There was no need for me to stop and stand idle, as I was determined to get to my destination, knowing that getting to that spot would give me the aid to deal with the enemies, and now also the aid against the pain and injury, as there would be plenty of food there that were necessary for me to recover.

'Sh*t! Sh*t! So it was this guy! You're telling me I'm facing two powerful magicians?! Just what the?! Are you serious right now?!' I couldn't help but let out a bunch of cusses when the corner of my eyes noticed the same mini missiles appear beside the unknown figure out of thin air. Within a second, those bolts of fire were launched as they flew towards me at a speed that was visibly faster than my running speed.

I could only evade whenever the missiles got too close, but having to do so now with my injury was a very difficult task. But I had to do it if I wanted to live and avoid another hit on my back. At times like these, there were no such things as other choices, not until I made one. And to make one, I needed to reach my destination first.

'Fah!'

Rolling pathetically on the dusty ground with my naked bloody back was not at all a fun experience. I almost wanted to cry, as I felt the crystals of sand stab into my wounds, but I didn't have the time to do so as all of my attention was focused on evading the fire bolts.

Run, evade, and repeat - were my entire journey towards my destination, a painful one, as running caused pain and evading even more. It was torture.

Fifty meters alone, yet I was struggling to go beyond twenty-five alone due to having to run in circles to evade the fire bolts. I never felt worse. My previous experiences so far, I could confidently say they were less extreme, although still painful since pain is pain no matter what.

'Ugh, I'm starving! Losing too much blood, wasting too much time…' My head was starting to get dizzy. 'I just need to get a few meters closer to them. Only then might they hear me if I call for them.'

I had long abandoned those wooden spears I had brought along with me. The only thing in my hand was my sword, as that was the only thing that didn't hinder my movements too much, and the thing I couldn't afford to let go of at all as having it with me was crucial to my survival. 'Finally…'

"Help! Help! … Help!" I cried out pathetically while still trying to evade the fire bolts. If I saw myself right now, I'd probably pity my sad situation very much.

Fortunately, Sutow and the others were able to hear me yelling for their help. They didn't hesitate to do so, as they all ran towards me without a second of delay. With them running to me and me running to them, it didn't take long before we met each other.

"Pass me a ration!" I quickly shouted. Right after, a bag with food was thrown at me, which I caught and dug in immediately. "Cover me! Anyone willing to take a hit, jump in front of those fire bolts!" I yelled while grabbing a good amount of insects from the bag.

"Ah!" Sutow's voice was heard, and when I looked back I saw that it was indeed him who had taken on the hit of the fire bolts for me.

*Boom!*

Not more than a second after the pained wails from Sutow, another loud noise reverberated in my ears, this time, loud and strong enough for me to feel the ground shaking. It was the sound of an explosion, which I was somewhat familiar with, guessing that the sound came from a similar explosion that would have killed me earlier if I hadn't run away.
