I start to walk out of the castle, but get stopped by a man running in through the doors screaming.
"I need help! My village is being attacked!" He yells as he runs in towards the center.
"Hey! What's happening? How can I help?" I ask as I rush over to him.
He stops dead in his tracks and turns toward me. "It's a horde of zombies! They are ripping my people to shreds!" He yells frantically.
"Where is your village? I'll set out immediately!" I exclaim.
"It's to the south. It's a village called Talvnar. It's a large merchants village." He says with short breathe.
"You just need to turn it in as an active quest, so I can accept it." I explain.
"Are you fucking kidding me?! My city is dying as we speak! They already may be dead, since I had to run for three fucking days! And you expect me to go through formalities while my family is slaughtered? Why won't you just go and save them?!" He yells in my face.
"Listen! I would, but it's the law! You can stand here and curse at me all day long, but that isn't helping your family, now is it? Do your part, and turn it in! The desk is right behind you. I will immediately accept and go." I explain sternly.
He mumbles under his breathe and runs to the desk. He turns it in and I accept it. "How many zombies should I expect?" I ask.
"The soldiers there are doing all they can, but when I left, there was about a hundred." He says as he starts to cry as he finally has a chance to think.
"Wait! You should stock up on toxins and cures before setting out!" I hear a woman call out to me.
I turn around to see a beautiful woman with golden fleece robes. Her hair is long and black and her eyes are silver, since she is a Reaper. She walks over to me with a bag. She hands me the bag and winks at me. I accept the gift and she leans in and kisses me on the cheek.
"Come back alive. In case you haven't recognized my voice yet, I'm the woman who gave you your ability. The implant had a vial built into it that reacted to my ability, making you a Reaper. You showed true strength, You didn't scream for awhile, and I've never seen anyone last that long before showing their pain. You have potential, so do me a favor. Come back alive. I have plans for you." She says winking again.
"I appreciate the explanation and the gift, but I have to go. I'll be back, I promise." I swear to her.
I go towards the path, and at the crossroads, I turn south. Along the way, I slay a few monsters, and get a few cores. They were low level monsters that died when decapitated. I stop to sleep at an Inn when I have no more energy. I feel bad for having to stop, but I just can't continue. The next morning I get up out of bed and pay my fine.
"What's the rush? Why not stay awhile? You could experience all that I have to offer." The woman who owns the Inn says as she slowly opens her cloak. She looks great, but I have somewhere to be.
"I'm sorry Ma'am. I'm sure you have something great to offer, but I must get going and do my job." I say as I stumble backwards, trying to remain professional. I take one last look and run down the road to the south furthermore.
When I arrive at the village I see that he wasn't telling it's true size. This is a city, not a village. It has stone walls going for miles and the buildings inside are made of perfectly crafted bricks. They have a golden statue in the center of it all of a woman holding a vial and wearing a thin dress that looks like it's supposed to be blowing in the wind. I've never seen so much gold used for one thing. I walk through the city, but notice something very strange. All the people are going about their business like nothing has happened. I ask around and find out that there was a few zombies that entered the city, but nothing to major. The soldiers were able to handle it just fine. I decide to take a load off at the hotel at the west side of the city.
When I lay in bed, I hear a knock at my door. I get up to answer it, and when I do, I jump back as I see a man holding a gun at my face. I grab my gun on instinct and hold it at him. He is a Reaper, so why is he threatening me?
"What the hell are you doing? We are on the same side! Why are Reapers attacking me?" I ask demanding answers.
He is taken back by my words and lowers his gun. "I heard there was a Reaper in the city and I had to know if it was true. I think we were set up. Are you here for the zombie attack?" He asks as he walks into my room.
"Yes? I was at the castle when a man ran in screaming about zombies. I made him turn in the quest before I would accept and then I got here as fast as I could." I explain in confusion. "I thought only one Reaper or team of Reapers could accept a quest?" I ask.
"That is true. I was on the road when a woman ran up to me screaming about a zombie attack. I get here to find out that there were three zombies that died the moment the entered the city. We should stick together, just in case." He says.
"Great. Just what I need. Not only am I getting use to this new life one day at a time, learning the hard way how to kill these fucker, but now humans are setting me up?" I say in frustration.
"What did you mean by, why are Reapers attacking you?" He asks.
"Well last week there was a Reaper woman and a human man holding a gun at me ordering me to give them my stuff, and then a giant worm attacked. So I didn't get to get to the bottom of that one, but then you hold a gun at me." I say.
"That's interesting, and your new? They allowed you to take a quest for a giant horde of zombies?" He asks.
"Yeah? It's just zombies. I already killed a vampire. Zombies can't be much harder." I say.
"You idiot. One vampire is nothing compared to a horde. If a horde wants to, they can merge and become a giant zombie titan! Even if they don't they have strength in numbers. None the less. There doesn't seem to be any more zombies, but I don't trust it. There is a reason we were dragged into this. If you're planning on sleeping, I wouldn't sleep very long. I'll keep watch while you sleep." He says.
I agree and lay down. I fall asleep the moment my head hits the pillow. I am rudely woken up by the screams of the other Reaper. I jump up to see the man and woman pulling a black blade out of his heart. "You're next filthy abomination!" The woman yells out. She runs to me and swings, but I jump up and flip over her head. I bite into her throat when she turns around and rip a huge chunk of her throat out. Blood sprays everywhere, I see her face turn white as she drops. I start to turn around, but I feel something strange. I look down to see a black blade coming out of my chest. It gets pulled out and I drop to my knees.
"What the hell.... why...." I ask with the last bit of strength I have.
The man walks around and stands in front of me. He leans down and answers. "Because, this is the end of the Reaper rule. You don't even know the truth of why you were created. You don't deserve to live, you filthy abomination. I mean, just look at what you did to my wife! You're a beast. No better than the things you hunt." He says with disgusted tone as he spits on the ground. My vision goes black and I feel nothing.
