Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Wake up, your time is now!" I hear a voice speaking to me from afar. All I just see is darkness, then I see a light in the distance. I float forward to the light and see a tunnel. I travel through, then open my eyes.

"Get up!" Says a man as i quickly open my eyes.

"Huh? What's going on?" I ask as I sit up in bed.

"It's time for you to prove yourself. Follow me Candidate!" He orders.

I remember now. I grew up in a farmland and one day, my village got ransacked by a Ghoul. Everyone but a soldier and I died a gruesome, bloody, mess. Body parts everywhere, guts sprayed over all the walls, and children taken. I was raised by the soldier and trained. When I came of age at seventeen, I was brought to the Castle of the Reapers to join up. I have spent the last few weeks going through rigorous training. Running for miles up a mountain, being trained further in the arts of the sword and bow, as well as being taught monsters' weaknesses. It is now my time to go up the mountain by myself and prove that I have what it takes to be a Reaper.

"I'm ready Master. I will take up my blade in the honor of the Order." I pledge.

"Good, but it is not time for that. You will be met by the King, if you survive the trek up the Mountain of Blood. Then and only then, will you pledge your allegiance, and be deemed one of us." My Master says.

I take my sword and hook my bow to my back. I put my arrows on my side as well as my dagger. I gather up my satchel with my toxins and cures then head to the bottom of the mountain.

"Hold on Candidate! Here, take this with you. It may prove useful." My Master calls out as he walks towards me. He hands me a weapon I have never seen before. "This is a gun. It's used by Reapers to fight against monsters better. Your bow is powerful at range, but this is even more powerful. It shoots iron bolts that have been enchanted with the sigils engraved into the gun. It has the power, energy, and lightning sigils. It reloads itself after ten seconds of being fired, since the sigils always draw magic into themselves, creating a new iron bolt, and it sends out electrical charges. Never lose this weapon. There are only so many in the world and they are not easy to make. This may be what determines whether you live or die." He says as he hands me the bolt gun. I put it into the pocket of my leather pants.

I head up the mountain. After a few hours, it becomes nightfall. I set up camp and sit on a log getting warm by the fire. After a few moments, I hear snarling. I rush to get up and draw my steel sword. I look all around me, but can hardly see for the darkness. The campfire helps, but only for a few feet. I hear slow and steady footsteps reaching me, which tells me what direction to look. I turn, but at the same time, a giant wolf jumps out at me. I dodge just in time to only receive a small scratch on my cheek. I roll away and look back at it. It towers above me at fifteen feet tall and stands on two legs. It's fur is like quills and black like charcoal. It's eyes like golden fire and his teeth were razor sharp. I slash my sword at its stomach and it roars as it holds it's now open gut. With it's free hand, it slashes it's claws at me and I duck out of the way. I stab my sword into it's foot, pinning it into the ground and it again roars in pain. It bites out at me, but I jump backwards. I draw my arrow at it's head and let go. It reaches out just as fast, grabbing the arrow, snapping it in two. While it is distracted by the sword and arrow, I bring out my gun, firing it at it's face. An iron rod fires out of it with what looks like a lightning strike and stabs into the throat of the giant wolf. Electricity gets sent throughout the body of the beast. It stiffens up, foaming at the mouth and it's eyes pop out of it's skull right before it explodes. Blood and guts shoot out in all directions and I get covered in thick red liquid.

I stand there for a moment in awe of what just happened. I try to wrap my mind around it, but after a minute I can only say one thing. "What the absolute fuck?!" I yell out in shock. I have never seen such a thing. I pick it's flesh out of my hair for the next few hours while I take a bath in the creek nearby.

I start walking out of the water and feel something yank at my ancle. "Fuck no!" I yell out as I pull my ancle back. I start running out of the water and look back. I see this eight foot blue creature with webbed fingers and claws stand out of the water running towards me. It swipes at my chest cutting deep into my flesh. I scream out in pain, but try to ignore it. "I must complete this fucking mission!" I yell out giving myself the determination. I reach camp site, but get shoved down. I turn around and get a good look at this thing from the fire. Before, all I had to see was moonlight. Now I can see it clearly. It is blueish-green, has scales, razor sharp fangs around it's circular mouth. It has black eyes, but is humanoid. I roll over on my back to see this thing pounce down on top of me. I kick it off with all my might, but not before taking a few swipes from it's claws, and try to get to my satchel. I grab it, then get pulled back. Luckily I do manage to grab it, and open it up. I grab out the purple vial and open it up. I look back to the creature who is screeching and shove the vial into it's mouth scraping against its fangs in the process. Smoke starts coming out of it's mouth, it screams louder and falls backwards. It grabs it's throat rolling around in the dirt. It's skin starts turning black, it starts smoking all over it's body, then it just lays there still. I look on in horror as I see the body of this thing start melting into the ground and the skeleton turns to dust.

"What the fuck are these toxins? Why can't something die normally?! I mean, what the fuck!" I yell out. I shouldn't care so much, I mean, these things are monsters and deserve to die, but damn. I must continue on though. I will be the best Reaper to exist.Â
