Chapter 23 - Council meeting end

Following the closure of the meeting, Lady Chiyo couldn't hide her frustration. She sighed heavily and muttered to herself, "This is all the time I can buy for you, Gaara. I wish you good luck."

Baki, still puzzled, couldn't understand why Rasa, the Kazekage, had shifted the responsibility of Gaara's training to Lady Chiyo. But Rasa, for his part, had undergone a significant shift in perspective. Once, he had seen Gaara as nothing more than a weapon—an experiment that needed to be controlled or eliminated. Now, however, Rasa viewed Gaara as a potential hidden card, something to be nurtured while they still had the chance. It was as though a sense of impending doom loomed over him, and he was afraid of what might happen if Gaara didn't live up to his potential.

Meanwhile, Gaara, still recovering in the infirmary, found himself face-to-face with Shukaku, who was lecturing him on how he could have avoided the whole situation. Gaara, already frustrated, realized that his greatest weakness was his lack of experience. Despite his powerful abilities, Gaara had little real-world combat experience, and his training had been heavily focused on taijutsu, a field where he still struggled. His knowledge of ninjutsu was insufficient for situations like the one he'd just faced. While the academy was supposed to provide him with this experience, it had done little to prepare him for the reality of ninja life. Gaara couldn't help but wish he had graduated to the Ninja ranks earlier—if only he had more real missions under his belt.

As he continued to train with Shukaku, working on his flaws, he was unaware that the academy had unofficially granted him the title of Genin.

A week later, Gaara had recovered enough to be back on his feet, and Lady Chiyo was ready to take him, Kankuro, and Temari under her wing as their sensei. She didn't plan on escorting them on a major C-rank mission just yet, but she did want to assess their skills and prepare them for what lay ahead. She brought them to a training ground to test them, knowing that though they were children, they were far from being underestimated. If anyone took them lightly, they would regret it.

After observing the siblings, Chiyo quickly assessed their individual strengths and weaknesses. Gaara, on his own, was a powerhouse. His ability to manipulate sand allowed him to attack, defend, and trap his opponents with ease. She also noted that Gaara was quick to make decisions in combat, showcasing his tactical mind.

Temari, on the other hand, was a skilled strategist with a wind-style jutsu. Armed with a fan given to her by her father, Rasa, she excelled at long-range attacks. Temari's sharp tongue was also a weapon in itself, often used to provoke and outwit her opponents.

Kankuro, however, didn't have as clearly defined a fighting style. He relied heavily on poison and underhanded tactics, using trickery to gain the upper hand. Lady Chiyo, while hesitant, decided to give him a puppet as a gift to help him in combat. She wasn't fond of the idea at first, but she knew it would assist him in battle. These were the Sand siblings, after all, and she wanted to believe they could be better than their reputation.

Kankuro, with his overbearing elder brother attitude, had always taken it upon himself to protect his younger siblings, ensuring they didn't fall behind in terms of power and authority. This responsibility weighed heavily on him, and Lady Chiyo could see the determination in his eyes.

Satisfied with her observations, Lady Chiyo was pleased with Team Sand Siblings' progress. She had no major concerns. She then took the time to teach them the do's and don'ts of being a Genin, helping them understand the responsibilities they now carried as ninja in Sunagakure.
