Chapter 91 - The Seraph

A hum like that of an angelic hymn filled his eyes; the golden radiance expanded with a sudden swing of the guardian's blades. 

Just as the visceral flash expanded, he kicked the metal lid beside him, revealing the entrance to the sewers. There wasn't any time to think before he hopped down into the revealed pit. 

'Close, close, close—!' The panicked thought raced across his mind as the sharp warmth cut just above his back. 

It was by a mere millisecond that he avoided the heavenly incision imprinted through the street. He dropped into the dank sewers as his boots met the repugnant liquid with a splash. 

"Safe," he remarked, looking up as he found himself quickly met with light bleeding through the bricks above, "…Or not." 

There wasn't so much as a moment of safety as the layers of brick above between the sewers and street were slashed into.
