"So, you still have fighting capabilities after two specialized bullets, huh?" Carlos didn't say much more, aiming at Ethan's head and firing.
"That cunning bastard." Just as Ethan had barely leaped to his feet, he saw two bullets flying straight at him, bringing an unprecedented sense of crisis.
"Focus, you fool." That eerie voice in his mind appeared again. Only this time, it seemed rather impatient.
Ethan didn't have time to think. He concentrated, and time seemed to slow down.
He could clearly see Carlos pulling the trigger, the bullets slowly emerging from the barrel, every detail was crystal clear.
In that moment, relying on his body's instinctual reaction, Ethan dodged at a speed he himself couldn't believe. The bullets grazed his cheek, leaving a shallow mark, the pain stimulated his nerves but also made him more alert.
Carlos obviously hadn't anticipated Ethan's ability to react so quickly and was unable to proceed with the next step due to his astonishment. Ethan didn't give them any chance to counterattack and immediately used this brief interval to rush towards them at an astonishing speed.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!" The man next to Carlos fired several shots.
But their bullets seemed to only slightly hinder Ethan's movements, without causing any real harm.
Ethan grabbed the shovel from the ground, using it as a shield to protect himself, and quickly charged forward.
Seeing Ethan charging, the man in black drew a dagger, aiming viciously for Ethan's carotid artery!
But his speed was too slow in Ethan's eyes. Ethan blocked the dagger's thrust with his arm and counterattacked with a punch, knocking down the second man in black as well.
Seeing their comrades fall one after another, Carlos could no longer maintain his composure, shouting "Monster!" in fear, and turning to run.
He ran out of those specialized bullets! Ethan wouldn't let him get away!
Just as Ethan bent down, preparing to sprint again, he was distracted by his arm.
The spot where the dagger had stabbed him had sprouted a cluster of tiny purple tentacles, slowly dancing in the air as if exploring their surroundings.
Ethan stood there, transfixed, staring at the wound on his arm.
The tiny tentacles danced slowly in the air, as if alive. This sight was extremely eerie, far beyond his understanding.
"What the...?" At that moment, Ethan's mind was filled with confusion and fear, even struggling to articulate his thoughts. He didn't understand what had happened to him, why such a supernatural phenomenon was occurring on his body.
No cheat codes here! It was these tentacles that were blocking the bullets for him!
No wonder that man in black said, "These disgusting things!"
He looked down at his entire body, indeed! There were numerous wounds on his body, caused by the bullet impacts. Without exception, each wound had sprouted clusters of tentacles, making him suddenly feel dizzy and nauseous, and he collapsed to the ground, vomiting.
"What's happening? What's wrong with me?" After vomiting, Ethan felt slightly better, but his voice still trembled, his face a picture of shock.
He remembered the eerie fox he encountered in the house and the strange tentacle-like weeds. Could it be that his body was affected by some unknown power from the scroll? Turning into a monster!
He didn't have time to ponder deeply, as Carlos might call for more of his companions. He needed to leave this place quickly and find a safe spot to sort out his thoughts and figure out the reason for his body's changes.
Ethan picked up the shovel and the scroll from the ground, took a deep breath, trying to calm his mind. Then, he ran quickly in the opposite direction, leaving the dangerous area behind.
Along the way, he continuously observed his body's reactions. Apart from the sudden burst of strength and the tentacle phenomenon at the wounds, he seemed to notice no other abnormalities. But he knew in his heart that he was no longer the ordinary person he used to be.
But this was not like what he had imagined! Instead of being some handsome superhero, he was in this bizarre situation, which was somewhat hard for him to accept.
Finding a secluded corner, Ethan stopped to carefully examine his wounds. The tentacles had completely retracted, and besides the wound where his lung was pierced by that special bullet, other wounds were healing at a visibly fast rate. However, recalling the eerie healing of his head wound in the morning, Ethan was filled with confusion once again.
This abnormal healing ability and body changes made Ethan wonder if there was some connection between the scroll, these tentacles, and everything he had experienced.
Just as Ethan was deep in thought, the sky seemed to tremble suddenly, and then it turned utterly dark.
Darkness enveloped the world!
