Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: New Friends and Escape

A mingling of tension and anticipation swirled in Eliza's heart, while Sarah's eyes gleamed with the thrill of exploring this novel world. Sarah's words were imbued with an enchanting power that instilled unyielding courage into Eliza, whispering that even amidst adversity, their combined strength could uncover the beacon of hope on the horizon.

Eliza took a deep breath, knowing she couldn't succumb to her fear of Peter. She needed a plan—a scheme not only to break free from his hold but also to safeguard her deeply buried secrets. And it was Sarah's adaptability to the modern world that provided the insights necessary for such a plan.

"We need to seize the initiative," Eliza declared with newfound resolve. "Peter is ruthless; we must act swiftly."

Alexander, with his rain-soaked smartphone in hand, informed Eliza and Sarah that he had contacted a trustworthy hacker. This handsome gentleman, with his strategic acumen in building business empires, now stood as a vital ally in their daring venture.

"Library of the Ancients," Eliza softly spoke the name of a place. Amidst Alexander and Sarah's puzzled looks, she smiled and explained, "It holds the secrets of New Port City's early days, potentially the key to our liberation."

The trio entered the dusty old library, where the scent of aged books filled the air. Eliza tenderly caressed the yellowed pages like greeting old friends. Among them, a beautifully bound manuscript caught her eye, revealing a map of New Port City at its founding stage, along with enigmatic rituals and symbols. The precise dates and locations caused Eliza's pupils to contract, realizing they contained immense potential.

As dawn broke, Alexander's hacker friend, Mark—a young computer prodigy—joined their ranks. His fingers danced across the keyboard like piano keys, each keystroke another step toward breaching Peter's surveillance system.

The dinner party was the climax of Eliza's plan. She graced the event in an elegant gown, every smile and turn masking her taut nerves, while Sarah transformed into a dazzling assistant, and Alexander elegantly played the part of a refined gentleman, subtly guiding everyone's attention away from their true intentions.

After the soirée, under the cover of night, they slipped out of sight. Their destination lay in a secret underground chamber nestled within the city center. Amidst the howling wind, Eliza led them through dark alleys, their hearts pounding faster as they drew closer to their goal. Meanwhile, Mark adeptly set up his electronic equipment to ensure no surveillance could track them down.

"This is a game, and I won't lose," Eliza's eyes sparkled with determination. She knew she had to not only adapt to this world but carve out a niche for herself here.

Their footsteps were firm and swift as they navigated the dimly lit subterranean tunnels, moving soundlessly like phantoms. Mark scanned ahead with a peculiar device, a homemade underground detector that ensured there were no electronic eyes watching them. "Finally, some peace and quiet," Sarah quipped, though her eyes betrayed a fighting spirit. Eliza chuckled, surprised by how composed Sarah remained in these circumstances, despite her usual gentle demeanor.

Following the cryptic instructions from the ancient tome, they discovered the forgotten entrance to the underground chamber hidden behind a mundane iron door in the shadows of an old warehouse. At the entrance, Mark swiftly deployed a compact hacking tool, deftly bypassing the complex password locks with a confident grin. "As the saying goes, to do a job well, one must first sharpen their tools," Eliza marveled, watching the scene unfold like a magical ritual.

As the heavy iron door creaked open, a blast of stale air permeated with a faint musty odor greeted them. The underground chamber was far more spacious than they'd imagined, filled with bizarre contraptions and ancient machinery, resembling an inventor's workshop from a bygone era. Alexander followed closely, illuminating the surroundings with a flashlight, his face betraying the curiosity of a young adventurer.

Sarah too paused to observe everything around her, her interest piqued as a physicist from a parallel world by the strange technology before her. "Eliza, look!" She pointed to a peculiar instrument adorned with unfamiliar symbols and a yellowed sheet of paper that outlined theories on time travel.

Eliza leaned in to examine the faded text, which still revealed critical terms such as "singularity," "spacetime curvature," and "parallel universes"—concepts she had once immersed herself in studying at ancient libraries, unexpectedly confirmed right before her eyes. "It seems we aren't the only ones crossing the boundaries of time," Eliza said, her voice reflecting awe-struck shock, yet her burgeoning curiosity burned bright as wildfire.

Venturing deeper into the heart of the chamber, they finally uncovered the mysterious rune pattern that Eliza had used for her initial time travel, embedded into the wall of the innermost sanctum, its outline flickering with a dim light. Alexander approached curiously, asking, "What does this mean, Eliza?"

Taking a deep breath, Eliza replied resolutely, "It means, our adventure has only just begun."
