Chapter 2 - Prologue

Kara

The Present – Kara; 24. Liam; 30

"Come hell or high water, you will walk down that aisle even if I have to drag you out myself. You better find a way to accept it or you know what the consequences will be."

Those words are still with me today as I walk down the aisle. It's my wedding day 'fuck me'. Is this really my life? I'm only 24. How can I be getting married? This is not the future I had planned for myself.

I see my husband to be 'Connor Evans' standing at the end of the aisle. He's 6ft tall with blonde hair and a blonde beard to match.

He's average built. I guess some will consider him handsome. Even before he showed me his true colours, I always found something about him unsettling.

He watches me as I walk towards him with a predatory smile. He might fool everyone else here but I know what he is, no different from my father. Cold hearted monsters who see me as a pawn in their games.

"I do" two words that seal my fate.

The wedding reception is taking place at Connor's family home. His father had insisted and it's not like I had any say on the matter.

The house has been in their family for centuries.

It's a luxurious mansion with a grand entrance. The inside is designed with its sweeping staircase, high ceilings and marble floors that give a sense of power and snobbishness. Today it's all decorated for the wedding 'my wedding'.

"Congratulations you two" my father smiles triumphantly as he approaches us accompanied by Mr. Evans.

Even in his 60's my father doesn't look his age. Standing at 6ft, he's a tall man with a fit physique. 'I guess you don't age when you spend your spare time eating children's souls'.

While Mr. Evans stands at the same height as me 5ft and 6inches short. He's bulkier than the average man and there's something greasy about his whole demeanor.

"So, when should we be expecting grand babies?" asks Mr. Evans. My father gives a belly laugh as if it's the funniest joke he's ever heard.

"We'll get right on it." Connor replies.

'Over my dead body'.

I bite my tongue and smile like I have been doing all day reminding myself why I'm doing this.

I stop the waiter passing by for another glass of champagne.

"Don't you think you've had enough? I want you sober for tonight." My body shudders with disgust at Connor's implication.

I tip the glass and down the entire drink before I glare at him. Connor is never one to cause a scene, he clenches his jaw and laughs. Image is everything after all.

Ignoring me they start chatting about work. I tune them out and glance at the dance floor. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. If only they knew.

My sister, Melody, catches me eyeing her and smiles. For once today my lips stretch into a genuine smile.

She looks so much like our mother. I suppose in a way we both do. We both have her blue eyes and black hair. While mine is long, Melody cuts hers short just like our mother.

I wish she where here today. Maybe she could have stopped this.

My sister races to me just as Connor goes to grab me by my waist. I tense. "We should be heading out now." he says.

Just as I'm about to protest my father gives me a pointed look.

"Are you guys leaving the party already?" Melody asks with a sad face as she approaches us.

"Yes, some of us have to work in the morning." Connor snaps

As we're heading out, I hug my sister tightly "Take care, I promise to call you every day." I let her go and Connor leads me to the limo waiting outside. I look back and wave at my sister before entering the car.

"Your behaviour today was unacceptable Kara. Trust me you don't want to push me " With that said, he takes out his phone and ignores me. Embracing the silence, I stare outside the window as we drive through the city.

We reach outside a building which I assume is where Connor lives. 'This will be my new prison then'.

He gets out and opens the door for me. Once in the elevator he looks at me like I'm a piece of meat and he's a hungry wolf.

The elevator goes up to the penthouse floor, as he opens the door, I prepare my self for what's to come.
