Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Mobilized Soldier Wang Hu

Spotting the gold bracelet and diamond ring adorning the woman's hand, Ye Fan was deeply moved. Stuck on the sixth floor with no means of escape, he resolved to confront the two approaching zombies.

After eliminating them, his gold count would undoubtedly surpass 100, enabling the production of his first combat unit.

Faced with two zombies, Ye Fan questioned the effectiveness of the spear and opted to retrieve the revolver. Equipped with four bullets, he believed it would suffice for precise shots.

Moving a table to the door to impede the zombies' progress, Ye Fan opened the door, prompting a swift confrontation.

Two gruesome zombies, drenched in blood and gore, advanced menacingly. Unleashing their claws and teeth, they pushed the table forward.

Ye Fan decisively raised his gun, targeting the male zombie first.

Bang bang~~~!

His intention was a two-shot takedown, yet he underestimated the zombie's erratic arm movements. The initial shot hit the arm, the second the face, neither causing fatal injuries.

Working in tandem, the two zombies forced the table aside.

Ye Fan swiftly fired again, this time with improved accuracy, hitting the male zombie squarely in the forehead.

A one-shot kill!

He aimed at the female zombie but struggled to account for its flailing arms, narrowly missing.

"What happened? I excelled in military training, but now I'm too nervous. There's also an issue with the accuracy of this gun."

Out of bullets, Ye Fan attempted to grab a spear, but the female zombie closed in.

Unable to escape in time, he hastily retreated. The confined space of the house left the living room as the only sizable area.

Zombies pursued Ye Fan as he circled the room, relying on his agility to evade them. Despite his efforts, danger lingered.

Stab it~~!

The zombie's claws scraped his back, causing pain. However, upon examination, he discovered the skin remained unbroken, thanks to the sturdiness of his clothing.

"Thank goodness for this outfit. Ordinary clothes would have left me vulnerable."

Pressing on, he continued running with the pistol. Seeing no way to escape, Nana suddenly issued a voice prompt.

"Sir, the twelve o'clock refresh time is up. Clothes are restored! Bullets are restored!"

Delighted, Ye Fan realized the benefits of the commander's equipment. He once again had bullets.

Raising the pistol, he demonstrated his true marksmanship this time.

Holding the gun steadily, he aimed quickly and landed a headshot with a single shot!

Bang~~~!

The female zombie collapsed instantly.

"That was close. Fortunately, it was almost eleven o'clock when I came out, just in time for the refresh."

Ye Fan lay stretched out on the ground, exhausted, taking a few minutes to regain his composure.

While he had focused on physical fitness in the past, he now understood the vast difference between routine exercise and the desperate exertion demanded by life and death situations.

Without time to regulate his breathing, he remained on edge. Running for an extended period had left him thoroughly fatigued.

Having calmed down, Ye Fan approached the fallen female zombie.

Removing the gold bracelet and diamond ring, Nana immediately prompted, "Didi! I found a rare metal that can be converted into money. Do you want to convert it?"

"Transform it. From now on, transform everything automatically without asking."

"Understood. The transformation was successful, and I received forty-eight gold!"

Examining the virtual page, Ye Fan confirmed his balance had reached 117 gold, comprising thirty-three units of gold, seven units of platinum, and eight units of diamonds.

"Not bad, I've finally gathered 100 gold."

"Sir, you can train a conscript. Do you want to train?"

"Train, train immediately."

Observing the soldier page, Ye Fan noticed the mobilization icon rotating in a circle, indicating the production progress. Completion required approximately one minute.

After the progress concluded, Nana prompted, "Sir, this is your first time producing a unit. Please choose the soldier race."

"Oh! Race is a factor?"

"Yes, given your background from the Qin and Han dynasties, the default soldiers you produce belong to the Qin and Han dynasties. Do you want to modify this?"

"No modifications needed. Qin and Han natives will be fine."

Ye Fan hesitated to create a group of foreign soldiers, foreseeing difficulties in explaining their origins.

"Is this soldier a real person or a robot?"

"All Red Alert soldiers are real people, each with a unique identity. You can even find these identities with careful searching. Although now transformed into zombies, their appearances have been slightly adjusted, making them less recognizable."

This revelation eased Ye Fan's concerns. Employing robots as soldiers would inevitably raise suspicions, but real people could maintain a semblance of authenticity.

"Where is the wisdom of a soldier? Is it the same as a real person?"

"Ordinary soldiers have low intelligence but can carry out simple communications and orders. Only as soldiers rise in stars does their intelligence gradually increase. Officers can now communicate with your soldiers."

Nana paused, and footsteps emanated from the bedroom.

Initially expecting more zombies, Ye Fan hastily raised his gun but found a different scenario.

A man of similar height emerged, around twenty years old, wearing military attire with a cold expression. Donning a camouflage hat and armed with a submachine gun, he sported an epaulette with an inverted obtuse angle pattern, signifying his rank as Private.

"Private Wang Hu reporting. I've seen the commander!"

Stunned by the unexpected display of respect, Ye Fan instinctively returned a military salute. "Wang Hu, is that your name?"

"Yes, sir! Wang Hu, from County B, City H, with the rank of Private!"

"Private? Not a mobilization soldier?"

"Sir, we've made slight adjustments. All mobilization soldiers produced are designated privates, as the lowest rank in our country's military service is private."

Ye Fan comprehended the adaptation of the red alert system to the military hierarchy of the Qin and Han dynasties. The ranks mirrored those of regular troops, with mobilization soldiers now designated as privates.

Glancing at his revolver and then at Wang Hu's Type 56 submachine gun, Ye Fan couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy.

"Wang Hu, is your gun easy to use?"

"Sir, my gun uses 7.62X39MM bullets, has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds, is effective within a kilometer, and refreshes every 24 hours. The gun itself won't encounter mechanical failures!"

"Only thirty rounds?"

"Report, the number of star-raising bullets will increase!"

"And what if your gun falls into someone else's hands?"

"Each Red Alert soldier's weapon is specialized and can be used by others. It functions as a normal firearm that requires loading and is subject to wear."

"And your marksmanship?"

"Before the star rises, my marksmanship is average. As the star rises, it will progressively improve. After reaching three stars, I'll be at the level of the national shooting team."

Satisfied with the information, Ye Fan considered the potential of the firearm. He also noticed the sharp military bayonet attached to the gun.

"Wang Hu, can you still fight with a bayonet?"

"Yes, every Red Alert soldier is an excellent warrior. As the star rises, their combat effectiveness continues

to increase!"

This revelation left Ye Fan pleasantly surprised. It turned out that instead of mobilizing a weakling, he had acquired an outstanding warrior. This significantly boosted his confidence in ensuring personal safety during the perilous days ahead.

"Very good, Private Wang Hu. Starting today, you will accompany me and be responsible for ensuring my safety."

Wang Hu snapped to attention and saluted with military precision. "Understood! Protecting the safety of the commander is the highest mission of every Red Police soldier. Your will is the entire meaning of our existence!"

Ye Fan, gazing at the unwavering loyalty of his newfound soldier, felt a surge of emotions sweep over him. It was a unique experience for him, having never received such respect in his twenty years of life.

As the initial shock subsided, Ye Fan realized that with Private Wang Hu by his side, his chances of survival in the impending chaos had considerably improved. The prospect of venturing into the unknown world with a loyal and capable companion ignited a newfound determination within him.

With Private Wang Hu now part of his team, Ye Fan was ready to face the challenges of the post-apocalyptic world. The mysterious and dangerous journey had just begun, and he was eager to unravel the secrets and navigate the uncertainties that lay ahead.
