Chapter 9 - Just a Woman, After All

Dr. James Miller, composed and unflustered, methodically opened his medical kit, gently wiping the dried blood from her forehead with a damp cotton pad. 

 

Only after applying the necessary medication did he begin to bandage the wound. Fortunately, the injury was not severe; although there was significant bleeding, it was not life-threatening. A few days of rest should suffice for recovery.

 

Ethan Montgomery sat nearby, his previously furrowed brows now smoothed, his face a picture of serene indifference. 

 

As Dr. Miller attended to Avery Miller, Ethan nonchalantly held a glass of red wine, sipping it lightly while gazing at the thickening night outside the window.

 

Dr. Miller cast a surreptitious glance at Ethan's imposing figure, shaking his head helplessly. 

 

After he had finished treating Avery's wounds, the Parisian night had deepened.
