In the Central Providences of Galtrum, two little boys were playing in the backyard of their house. They burst through the back door and ran into the living room, as their mother, Tilda, sat in her rocking chair with a little baby cradled in her arms.
Tilda was anything but simple. While her appearance might deceive casual onlookers, she had a piercing gaze; observant and true. And her smile was filled with an unrestrained love for life. She was, in no account, an angel, but she was perfect for herself and her own life.
Having just arrived from work, their father, Felux, called out, "Boys, slow down!"
Tilda turned to her husband and said, "Welcome home."
The older boy, Calvis, said, "Can I see baby sister?"
"See baby?" Ewan, the younger boy, said.
Calvis took after Tilda's father with his brown hair and strong build, while Ewan looked like an exact copy of his father, with his blonde hair and green eyes.
"Hold on. She's sleeping." Tilda said. Readjusting her hold, Tilda leaned over and showed the boys the adorable little girl with rosy chubby cheeks. "Here she is. Little Anra."
Calvis said, "Hi Anra. I love her."
"Love her!" Ewan was so overcome with emotion he began running around the room in circles.
Felux grabbed Ewan and said, "Alright boys, go wash up. We've to eat dinner."
Calvis said, "Aye Papa!"
"Aye!"
Felux put Ewan down and the two little boys ran out of the room.
Tilda asked, "How was it?"
Felux smiled and said, "Good day's work, I'll say. Stopped a band of bandits and returned a priceless heirloom to its rightful household."
Tilda rolled her eyes.
Felux held out a letter and said, "You've a message from Ragdor."
Tilda raised her eyes.
Felux said, "I'll trade you."
Standing, Tilda gave Felux the baby as she took the letter. Reading the letter, Tilda's eyes widened.
Felux asked, "What's the news?"
Tilda said, "It's from Marley. Seems that Delrik's finally found Cosaria after all these years."
"After she ran away?"
"Yeah, back when she was pregnant with their child." As she read the letter, Tilda summarized, "Oh, he didn't know the kid was his. He's found out now, but not after she lied to him about it. Look, she named it Seredith, after her mother. Apparently, she was hiding in the angel-demon realm. Marley had no idea."
"How'd he find her?"
Tilda scanned the letter, saying, "Not sure. Doesn't say." She turned the page over. "Oh, and it says that Delrik has retained Demon powers, you know, since being cursed for so long."
"Of course," Felux said scoffing. "Remind me, why'd she run away to begin with?"
"Something about how he didn't want kids, or she wasn't sure if he loved her, or she didn't want to tie him down. She had a million reasons."
"He's never forgotten her."
"He never has. I'd say it was romantic, if I didn't think it was unhealthily obsessive."
Felux and Tilda shared a look, then burst into laughter.
The baby started crying at the noise and both parents began hushing. Once the child had calmed, the two shared another look with glints of laughter dancing at their eyes. They kissed. And lived happily ever after.
The End.
