Chapter 25 - Assassination 2

"Young Highness, the royal carriage has finally arrived," said Sophie after noticing no movements from me.

It was too obvious I was in deep contemplation.

I tilted my head upward, and the ominous, cold aura slithered through my soul, and a shiver ran down my spine.

I have to get used to this.

"Young Highness."

As both of us were so fixated on the royal carriage, our tense bodies were startled by the amiable voice on the left side.

It came from the driver of the royal carriage.

Then, as if our body and mind were in harmony, we simultaneously motioned our head to the left side and scrutinized him from head to toe.

The smile of the driver froze, feeling awkward by our deep gaze.

"Is something wrong?"

He spoke with great courage, breaking our immersion for a while.

I stared at Sophie at my back with great difficulty as she adjusted, and we communicated through our eyes.

'Was there really something wrong, Young Highness?'

Although she didn't speak, her gaze of inquiry alone seems to ask that question.

I replied by moving my right eyebrow upward, signaling a yes.

The driver of the royal carriage was baffled by our strange action.

Suddenly, it dawned on him, causing his eyes to dilate.

"Excuse me, Young Highness."

Our non-verbal communication was interrupted as we focused on him.

"Please allow me to apologize for being so late. Something happened to our horses, so we had great difficulty in calming it down."

"The horses ran amok?"

"Yes, we managed to settle down, but we have to replace the other as it suddenly became limp."

"How could that be?" Sophie intervened. "That's a warhorse! Unless someone attempted to disturb it!"

All of a sudden, an idea struck me.

"That's the problem. We couldn't identify if it was because of someone or something or even just a natural cause."

"Forget about that. We are running out of time."

I dismissed their argument since it would be pointless henceforth.

"I apologize, Young Highness."

Sophie then gazed coldly at the driver of the royal carriage and said, "Open the royal carriage."

"At once."

He didn't even hesitate to bow to a maid.

Well, it couldn't be helped, a normal maid and a personal maid have different statuses, for the latter hold some power since they were akin to a spokesperson of a noble.

The driver proceeded and halted, facing his back before me, as he opened the royal carriage and there was a plain red carpet rolling out.

Sooner, on the right side of the plain red carpet, a chair slid down, taking a portion of the seat inside the royal carriage.

This royal carriage was indeed designed for me, a person with disabilities.

Now that the royal carriage was opened, Sophie moved forward, halted in front of me, and said, "Excuse me, Young Highness."

I nodded as I opened my armpits.

Only this way, Sophie could lift me up without any constraints.

However, the problem was we were facing each other closer.

I could deal with it, but Sophie could?

Yet, I didn't land a gaze on her, so she should be fine.

Of course, I'm aware Sophie was holding romantic feelings for me, but as long as I wouldn't play with it, she should be safe.

Furthermore, the fact that I'm emotionless means falling in love was just impossible.

Tossing those unnecessary thoughts at the back of my head, I've finally settled on the comfortable chair.

It was so comfortable that when I sat on it, the chair seemed to embrace me with softness, inducing me to sleep.

Of course, I couldn't afford to be so comfortable when my life was in peril.

Hence, despite wanting to sleep, the ominous aura that was still present inside was forcing me to pay close attention to every detail.

Sophie extended his arms on the back of this chair and clicked a button.

A seat belt covering my stomach appeared.

It wasn't tight, nor did it make me comfortable, as it was just right.

Then, Sophie proceeded to click another button, and the chair slowly moved inside.

Once it was connected to the chair inside the royal carriage, the red carpet slowly twisted its body and disappeared below the door as if it was swallowed inside.

I'm still really surprised by the creativity at this age.

Perhaps only a noble indeed could witness this awe-striking machinery.

After the red carpet, another stair lay down below the part where the red carpet was swallowed.

Sophie tugged her dress to avoid hindering her movements when taking the stairs.

Once inside, she sat in the wheelchair opposite me.

It didn't mean we were close to each other since the royal carriage was actually pretty large.

At least, larger than my room in my previous world.

I snickered internally at how extravagant my current life is compared to my previous life.

"Excuse me," said the driver as he closed the door, resonating a soft sound.

It was satisfying, I must say.

"So, Young Highness," whispered Sophie softly.

Her eyes moved left and on me, checking if the driver could hear her.

Her actions were so adorable.

"Do you think that the driver is fake?"

"What do you think?" I smiled.

In front of us was a table with an ember-designed teapot and teacup.

The aroma suffusing from the teapot was alluring and soothing.

Hence, without hesitating, I poured two cups while Sophie was talking with a puzzled expression, "I don't think so, but then again, you said he could be."

"I just said it as a probability."

Then, I gestured to her to take her teacup by moving it towards her.

She nodded but didn't take it yet.

"Give me your observations."

I sipped my tea while staring at her hazel eyes.

"There's nothing different I can see. It's really just the usual him."

I nodded.

"But, do you think his perfectness could be his flaw?"

Something struck her mind, but she was still confused.

"So, does that mean he is fake?"

"We will see."

Sophie grabbed the tea, her hands shivering.

Obviously, she was anxious.

"Why wait?" She asked as she couldn't bring to drink the tea with a disturbed mind.
