Igris the most devastating dragon, ancient, wise, whose power rivals that of the Celestial elders or Gods, set out one morning to catch a meal and stretch. As he past the mountains of the upper continent he felt a surge of magic power west of his location. Curious he changed course ignoring the panicking humans and monsters below him. Igris although powerful to the point of being unrivaled didn't upset the balances of the races inhabiting his world. For this reason many of the long lived races respected the Elder Dragon's rule even to the point of leaving offerings on a regular basis. Humans however, could only panic seeing Igris only as a massive beast of terror. Regardless the world truly is balanced due to this one being so when he felt a powerful surge of power he grew anxious.
As he approached the area in which he felt the presence he began searching intently using the keen sight of dragons he could count the blades of grass from amongst the clouds. No longer could he feel the presence nor could he see any living creature in the world below. Just as he was about to end his search and return to his lair for a nap...
*Plop*
"Rawwwr!"
Something small landed on his long snout startling the old dragon, his eyes going wide in shock. Igris went crosseyed as he tried to focus on what landed on him, figuring he must have ran into a bird since no entity alive would dare to lay a hand on him. His shock only grew when he found a child sitting up staring right back into his eyes, as they blinked in surprise at each other. Being an elder dragon Igris spoke in every tongue, so using man's language, he tried to ascertain how the child was this high in the air.
"Child name yourself! Where do you hail from? How did you enter my domain?"
"..."
"..."
*Blink ... Blink*
"Answer me child or shall I make you my dessert before slumber?"
The child to young to understand giggled and cooed at the voice shaking him. As happy children do his arms fluttered about until....
*Smack .... Smack...*
"Cut that out!....Stop.... Don't touch me."
The toddler was smacking Igris in his eyes and snout, as if it were a game to him. No fear was shown in the child's gaze which caught Igris by surprise.
"Child do you not fear my appearance or where you are?"
For the first time the child stopped and gazed at the elder dragon with a puzzled look on its face. The child looked at Igris, then up, he turn his head left and right, then peaked over the edge of the massive snout on which he sat. Being only a toddler his head to body weight was still unbalanced and he quickly toppled off the side.
"Goo gahh ga hahahahahaha"
As a parent would worry about their child Igris had a sudden urge to save this little one. He thought it strange he would have feelings about protecting anyone much less a short lived human, however he quickly contorted his body rolling into a dive to get underneath the child. Meanwhile, the child stopped laughing and watched as this majestic being danced on the wind. Igris matching the falling child's speed put his nose against the child and slowly pulled out of the dive. The child wrapped Igris' nose in a embrace then kissed the scales as if to say what was on its heart.
"Daaa da"
The two looked at each other and Igris knew he could not see himself giving the child to another to raise without knowing why he was falling through the skies. He would take the child as his own for now. With that thought he began his flight back to his lair grabbing a monster and fruit with his claws as he flew so he could feed this young sapling.
As he entered the skies above the continent known for being the land of dragons he worried if the child could survive the harsh weather and heavy mana filled region. Telepathically he called to the Four other elders. Igris the Golden dragon of absolute Dominion and chaos was the oldest and most powerful of five siblings. He landed at his lair which was more a massive tower stretching far into the sky. Inside the tower there was a stairwell leading to a throne room, a banquet hall, his bed chamber along with numerous guest and servant rooms, and last but not least his treasure room which was the most impressive of the five elders.
Each of the five Elder Dragon's possessed contradictory powers within themselves. This was made possible by the mana saturated environment they were born into hardening their bodies like a expert blacksmith forging a masterpiece weapon. If you put two opposing powers into most other beings they would be ripped apart or lose their minds trying to maintain balance within themselves.
Using transformation magic he quickly took the humanoid shape with some slight dragon characteristics in his eyes, tongue, ears, hands, and feet. He the turned feeling his brethren approaching. Astarot the black dragon of life and death was the first to land, followed shortly by Apep the red elder or destruction and creation. They both looked puzzled as they took their humanoid forms and walked over to see what Igris was holding.
"Oh ho.. A snack?"
"How thoughtful but it won't feed five."
"No. I will care for this child."
"He's finally gone senile."
"You stole a humans offspring to raise it?"
As the commotion continued Saphira the blue elder and only female among them possessing powers of time and space landed.
"Igris dear you know humans cannot survive in our lands. Why do you bring the child here?"
"This child holds enough mana that I noticed him from the northern most continent whilst he fall in the skies above the demon continent."
"That is quite the distance for a human presence to be detected. However..."
"I don't feel any mana from the child"
"Yeah neither do I did you make that story up to not have your sanity questioned?"
Just then Narith the last of the siblings arrived the Green dragon of pestilence and healing landed harshly sending violent winds in Igris' and the child's direction. To everyone's surprise the child invoked a thick barrier spell as the wind crashed into the spell one small crack formed in the middle then with a shattering sound it dissipated. Igris was infuriated and snapped at Narith.
"What do you think you're doing! I should kill you where you stand."
Narith however unfazed by the sudden hostile pressure directed at him replied simply.
"Igris this child,... It's dangerous.... To the balance of this world. We should kill it now before he grows stronger."
Caught by surprise Igris instinctively put himself between Narith and the child. His eyes narrowed and his hostility turned to that of murderous intent on protecting the child as a bear would protect their cub from hunters.
"No harm shall befall the child until I decide it too. Explain yourself or leave."
Narith explained that on his approach he infact did feel the child's presence. He went on to explain that the child to his surprise had vast mana ability such was his own ability to detect latent potential within other beings with his powers of healing.
"Should you decide to raise this child here, it will one day rival even out powers."
"That is no reason to kill it." Saphira interjected arguing as rulers they should nurture the child.
With here power of time she gazed at the giddy child playing with itself by throwing rocks towards the edge of the tower.
"I see great hardships in this child's future, just surviving here if you take this path will be incredibly difficult,..... and there is something very dark."
"See! Kill it while you can" Spat Narith.
"No" Saphira continued. "This darkness doesn't come from the child but what the child faces though I cannot see the details, it is strange but I believe our balance hinges on the child."
