I stayed still, letting the deer sleep a little bit more. I just enjoyed the warmth of its body and began to ponder what to do from now on. I still needed to find a way to figure out which fruit was poisonous and which one wasn't. Maybe the deer could help me differentiate between the two of them.
On the other hand, I need to find a way to keep making tools. My strength lies in its use, otherwise, if the animals of this place were as big as the deer, then I would have some problems surviving on my own. That or I would need to train my body to be able to keep up with gigantic animals. And that is pretty much impossible with my knowledge. Maybe with magic, but I know even less about that.
After some time the deer was finally awake. It let me know by licking my cheek once again. Getting out of my stupor I returned the gesture by giving it a scratch in the head. It let out a happy whine.
After waking up definitely, we both got to do our own thing. I began my daily morning routine, and the deer went out of the glade.
When I was done I waited for the deer to come back. I wanted it to teach me which plants were not poisonous. And how to differentiate them from the surrounding flora. It would be a long way until I could fully understand the difference between all the plants present here, but at least I would have a way to be self-sufficient.
The deer came back after a few hours of me finishing my workout. It was transporting some gigantic-looking fruits. They didn't seem appetizing, it was like looking at an enormous version of a blackberry, the problem was that it seemed that while they were ripening a mutation occurred, and the final result was an abomination of a fruit. Another thing to note is that the fruit was floating beside the deer. Magic in all its splendor. Certainly a sight to behold, and one that urged me even more to learn magic.
While wondering what I could do if I were to learn magic the deer headed towards me. Then it simply dropped one of the fruits in my vicinity and continued its way until it was comfortably situated in its bed before it began to eat its fruit. I just observed for a while, the fruit was heavy – like a watermelon – and its weird form just became even more horrid up close. I once again looked back at the deer. It was munching happily at the mutated blackberry. When it sensed my gaze it stopped eating to look back at me. After seeing that I didn't say or do anything it continued to eat the fruit. The fruit certainly looked unappetizing but with how the deer was eating it you would think it was some rare delicacy.
Deciding to leave my prejudices behind I tried to take one bite. In the beginning, I didn't feel anything, at all. I thought that maybe this fruit was one rare specimen that couldn't trigger my papillae. Then a couple of seconds later all the sensations came crashing at me. It would have been a wonderful sensation if not for the fact that everything came at me all at once. After overloading my brain for a couple more seconds I once again didn't feel anything at all. This went on for quite a while. All for just eating a little piece of fruit.
It was certainly a unique sensation, I just hope that nothing broke inside me. In the end, I lost count of the number of times I could feel something because of the fruit. Thinking about it, I'm feeling surprisingly empty right now. Like I was in some kind of void, it was the same sensation I had when I was "lost in space" before coming to this world. I may be seriously broken!?
I was panicking inside when I discovered that I couldn't feel even the floor beneath me or hear nature's sounds. And when they didn't come back I began to hyperventilate. The deer, after seeing my state, just stared at me. And as if sensing what I was going through it just continued eating its fruit without a care in the world. I could still see, but even after seeing the nonchalant attitude of the deer that showed so much concern when I was leaving, I couldn't calm down. How could I do it if suddenly more than half of my senses were cut off!? It was as if I was a conscience with eyes and nothing more. I tried to move but I ended up lying on the floor, my vision lost to the dirt and grime of it. The mutated blackberry was thrown to the floor and forgotten for the moment.
It was not until a while later that I could sense something. My sensations came back little by little, I began to feel my arms and legs, and a while later I could feel my entire body. My sense of smell, hearing, and taste came one after another little by little. And after everything finally came back, after feeling everything once again, I began to feel even more. I could feel the little particles forming the dirt beneath me, it was prickling me and fortunately, it was not something painful just annoying. Different smells came to me at once. They were different, new, and sometimes annoying. From time to time an intense odor made its way into my nose and I had to stop breathing for it to stop being a burden. The sense of taste was a little more annoying, every time I tried to open my mouth some new taste made its way into my brain. Sometimes it was a pleasant experience and sometimes not.
I just stayed there in the same spot, motionless, for what felt like hours. Trying to control or become accustomed to my evolved senses. It was nothing this serious with my eyes. I did feel some discomfort because of the light from the suns, and sometimes a headache because of the overload of information that I could see. But definitely not in the way it happened with my other senses, feeling everything all at once without a limit. That was one hell of an experience. One that I hope never happens again.
After all the sensations finally died down – I got used to them – I could finally think straight once again. I tried to get some answers from the deer, as much as I wanted to know exactly what happened communication with it was a problem, but the deer just stared at me and tilted its head. It was definitely a look that said "I don't know anything about it". The deer obviously knew something, it just didn't understand my question.
I didn't pry, I would get the exact same response every time I tried to ask, so there was no reason to do it again. The process was uncomfortable, extremely so, but the results were equally amazing and weird. I could now taste and feel new things, sometimes to such a degree that it was annoying. I just wanted to survive and ended up evolving. Isn't this world like a game!?
