It was dawn when the last councilor perished at the hands of Amon.
The sun bathed the great Republic City, exposing its destruction. Buildings were ablaze, and hundreds of lifeless bodies lay on the ground.
Gale walked through the streets completely masked, heading towards the palace. As he advanced, he breathed in the air saturated with the city's blood scent.
Approaching the palace, he noticed how utterly devastated it was. The entrance lay in ruins, with the populace looting what little remained of value.
When he finally entered the meeting room, he found Amon all alone, awaiting Gale's presence.
"Gale, you've finally arrived. Look, we succeeded," Amon said, removing his mask, revealing a genuinely satisfied smile on his face.
Gale noticed Tarrlok's lifeless body lying on the floor beside him.
"Have you eliminated the airbenders?" Amon asked, his expression now revealing a sinister grin.
Gale nodded subtly.
"You're just nodding and saying nothing," Amon said, now with a hint of anger forming on his face.
Seeing the man's changing expressions, Gale internally chuckled. The guy was truly in a state of psychosis.
"What do you want me to say? We did it," Gale said, removing his mask.
Looking towards Gale, Amon's heart started beating faster than usual. Anxiety was hitting him.
The atmosphere was completely silent now, with neither side bothering to engage in conversation.
Both knew they were about to enter into combat. Deep down, Amon knew that Gale was also using him. Both understood precisely how this story would unfold.
The clash between the two greatest bloodbenders had begun.
Using their bloodbending, both paralyzed each other simultaneously.
A look of surprise crossed Amon's face.
"I knew you were hiding something. I knew I felt a familiarity the first time I held your hand!" Amon shouted towards Gale, and they engaged in physical combat.
Aware that their bloodbending was useless and there was no significant water source nearby, the fight began.
Gale, without a second thought, used bloodbending on himself to enhance his physical attributes. His muscles instantly contracted, increasing his strength and agility. With surprising speed, he delivered a direct kick to Amon's chest, sending his body backward with the force of the impact.
Amon, still recovering from the attack, retaliated with a rapid series of punches, but Gale's newly acquired agility allowed him to elegantly dodge the blows. In a fluid motion, Gale seized the opportunity and delivered a powerful hook aimed at Amon's face. The blow hit its target, but Amon, resilient, responded with a swift knee to Gale's abdominal region.
Recovering from the knee strike, Gale decided to use the destroyed environment to his advantage. In an instinctive gesture, he reached out and pulled a stone block from the debris around him. With all his strength, he struck Amon's head.
The sound of the skull breaking echoed clearly.
Amon crawled amidst the debris, with liters of blood pouring from his head.
Words struggled to manifest in his mouth but became unintelligible. Oxygen was rapidly leaving his brain.
Gale manipulated the blood gushing from the man's head, shaping a red spear made of the fluid.
In response, Amon simply turned his head in the opposite direction, facing an Avatar Aang statue that remained untouched in the corner of the room. In a matter of seconds, eternal darkness enveloped his vision.
