He pawed at the ground, his hands clenching around dirt or gravel, stinging and grinding at his persistent hands... Searching for the light...
His eyes slowly flickered open, but the landscape before him didn't change. He could tell he was lying face down, his chest hurt, and he could barely breathe. Rolling on his back, he inhaled a puff of air and instantly the pain in his chest started to lessen.
Why am I outside at night..? Did I... blackout? The air smelled fresh enough to be a forest, but his sight was still obscured, as if he had never opened his eyes to begin with. Struggling to get up, he felt around the surface until he found what felt like grass, using that to push him up instead of the jagged soil he laid up on. It took a moment, but eventually he propped himself up and let out a deep breath.
"H-hello? Is anyone there..?"
His voice echoed about the area, sounding more and more unlike him as his words faded away... He was alone. And... for some reason... he wasn't bothered by this. Maybe he liked being alone. It certainly was peaceful. Shouldn't he move? Maybe he should just stay, it would be a lot easier. And then he could sleep. Dream something if he was lucky. Wouldn't that be nice? But deep down... Really far down deep within his soul, a little voice told him he needed to leave. He could ignore it, but... It felt like the only light within this void.
⚉ Get up.
Hobbling to his feet, he carefully got up. Feeling his surroundings, he made out the rough, damp texture of what he could only deduce to be a cavern wall, meaning that he might currently be in some sort of dark zone in a cave. Exploring more, he realized it was an abnormally small cave, and resembled the dome-like shape of an igloo. Suddenly, one of his paws touched a divot within the wall at his knee height... an exit? It was rather small, and there didn't seem to be another exit for him... Whatever, it's not like I have claustrophobia. Not waiting a second longer in the gloomy domed cave, he crawled into the divot, and shimmied his way through the hole. It began to feel more constrained, enclosed, like the walls were melding with his skin, yet he pressed on, further and further until…
He rolled out and into darkness. The sound of fluttering wings ascending into the sky came from right beside him. He seemed to have startled a bird. Sooooo he was outside. He went to touch the hole he exited from, only to be met with the rough, damp stone that he had familiarized himself with inside the cave. The entrance was gone.
"Weird."
Shrugging and then standing fully up, he patted down himself, knocking loose a few dry pebbles and stones from his skin and clothes. As he did so a small weight was felt within his pants pocket, one he swore wasn't there originally.
⚉ Take it.
Cautiously he felt around inside his pocket. He felt the small, sharp corners of a card and the hollow feel of a small plastic box. Fumbling them out, he did his best to examine the items despite his lack of vision. After a few minutes of hopeless tinkering with the box, he got it to pop open, inside were many small sticks with a chemical substance rubbed on one side of the tips. Matches!
He felt the side of the box, struck a match on the scratchy surface and held up the flame, it's glow casting away the shadows… For the first time since he had woken up in that cave, his eyes were unveiled and he looked upon himself, his clothing, and took it all in.
He donned a maroon jacket with a small gold crest of a flower on the heart side of the clothing. The strings of the jacket were crafted spirals and ended at the tips with light, polished, metal replica of shrunken kunai. His shirt beneath was a simple white shirt with nothing of importance on it. His pants were a dark grey, the color of ash. There were small cuts and scratches on them, likely from crawling out of that abysmal cave. His shoes were a simple red and black color and were quite comfortable.
Feeling his face, hair, and the rest of his body he realized that he had large ears, acute to those of a cat or fox, a large, puffy, orange and white tail, and sharp, somewhat retractable claws. However, that's where all the traits of an animal seemed to end for him, as the rest of his body seemed to be composed entirely of human parts.
⚉ The card.
Right. He picked the card back up in his left hand and shone the light of the match over it with his right hand. It took on the appearance of an elegant black business card.

The match burnt out.
His name..? He only caught the first two letters. He couldn't remember his name which greatly disturbed him. He really hoped it wasn't something stupid like Socrates... or something like… Socksface... He shuddered at the thought of being called Socksface. Scrunching up his eyebrows, he fumbled for another match and struck it against the box...
