Despite these worries, I couldn't let despair take root in my heart. I thought of Amelia's words and held onto my faith. I believed Killian would return. But whether he would save me was a question I dared not answer.
"He will come, Lily," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I know he will."
"I pray he does, Lady Amara," Lily replied, wrapping her arms around me in a comforting hug. "I don't want you to fall into the hands of that monster."
I managed a weak smile, though my eyes betrayed the turmoil within me. While I was certain of Killian's return, uncertainty gripped me. Would he save me? Would he stop this marriage? Or would he simply watch as I walked down the path lined with coals?
I closed my eyes holding onto the hope that no matter how much he hated me, he would not stand idle while another man claimed me. I hoped, with every ounce of my being, that he would come for me and pull me back from the edge of an unbearable fate.
