Tang Cheng, Chi Lan's father, was the leader of this powerful secret society which protects the Royal family. Chi Lan's name was Tang Lan, before he had married Chi Yuan and took his family name.
Chi Lan's may mom passed away when he was only eight years old and his younger brother five. His dad and brother were all he had until that incident took their father away from them too.
With his position as the leader of the "The Group", he was not supposed to work. Half of all the contributions made were for his personal use, and the other half he was to supposed to use them to manage the group as he deemed fit.
With the many families under the Tang clan, which is also the Royal family, these contributions were very huge amounts, at the end of the months when totalled. Most of them contributed more than their quotas with extra gifts attached as well.
