Chapter 19 - Shadows and Schemes: Chapter 19 The Encounter Between Misfortune and Destiny

Exiting the alley, the young beggar stepped onto the snowy street with the little girl in search of someone to adopt her.

The road was quiet with just a few people hurrying by, collars turned high against the chill. The cold was so intense that even horse-drawn carriages were scarce. The snow lay undisturbed, untouched by carriage wheels.

In the young beggar's arms, the baby girl's green eyes landed on him. She babbled after watching him for a while, she let out her first giggle.

Her laugh was faint like her breath. The young beggar didn't know what made her giggle but he didn't dwell on it for long. He lifted his head and approached a nearby fancy apartment, a place he had scoped out before for potential thieves to survive. Now he was back, ringing the bell.

"Who's there?"

A woman in her thirties answered the door and frowned at the sight of the beggar, moving to close the door.

"Please, madam, could you adopt this baby."

The beggar wedged his foot in the doorway and held out the girl.

The woman paused when she that money wasn't what he wanted. She eyed him, then the baby.

The baby babbled. The medicine seemed to have perked up the baby, who looked around with big, bright eyes, seeming cute and full of energy.

"Oh, she's adorable! You don't want her anymore?"

Reaching out, the woman went to take the baby.

"Yes. I found her on the street. I don't know her parents. Could you give me some bread for the cold?" he asked.

The woman smiled and moved to embrace the baby. However, suddenly, the child coughed for unknown reasons, and the woman touched her forehead. Her smile turned to anger immediately.

"Is she sick?"

"…"

"Take her back! Don't let her infect my son. Damn, hope I won't be infected."

She thrust the baby at the beggar and slammed the door. He was left alone in the cold.

This rejection happened over and over. Like the following.

"Sir, please, could you adopt this baby girl."

"Get out! I can't afford another mouth to feed."

And

"Madam, she's so pretty. Please, could you take her?"

"Keep away, you make my house stink."

Also,

"Miss, would you want to adopt this baby? Look, she is so cute."

"Help, Soldier! This boy is trying to sell a baby!"

And much more like these conversations....

As the day darkened, he couldn't remember how many doors he'd knocked on or how many times he'd been turned away.

"Why won't anyone adopt her? Why won't anyone care for her?" he wondered.

Looking down at the girl, who seemed unworried by the rejection and always smiled happily at him, he crushed more pills and fed her, trying to cool her fever.

He arrived at the biggest estate in Senag, its grandeur a sign of wealth. Surely they could afford a child.

A name tag hung next to the door, but the little beggar couldn't read. He didn't know what it said, but he sensed someone powerful lived there.

The Demon Emperor's Sword, now a dagger, knew many languages for its long existence. It glanced at the nameplate and flashed, seeming to sense something, it laughed wickedly.

"Boy, don't you find your luck is just getting worse? Everyone connected to me has been getting worse luck in Senag," it said.

The beggar stayed quiet as if disagreeing in silence.

The sword laughed louder in his mind.

"What were the girl's parents' names? Byron and Lana, right? After I woke up, my memories of avoiding the Key Organization with this couple also came back. This couple was very strong and powerful. Before entering Senag, it could be said that it was easy for them to deal with the pursuit of the "Key" organization."

"However, since entering Senag, they were accidentally poisoned for easily avoidable mistakes, and after they had escaped the pursuit of the Key organization, they were accidentally discovered by the Key Organization late at night when it was very difficult to find them"

"Why can't these be coincidences?" the beggar asked.

"Then how about you? Aren't there so many coincident dangers due to your bad luck? Why did the girl still cough when her fever was nearly gone? Why was she not adopted since she looked so cute? Why did you happen to meet the murder in the drugstore when the killer was still there?"

The sword questioned the beggar loudly.

"Listen, kid, the couple wasn't joking when they said I was the Devil Emperor's Sword. Every time I wake up and find an owner, it means that the battle between angels and demons that happens every 1,000 years on this continent starts".

The Blood Pupil's patience seemed to be almost exhausted with these words he said.

"The awakening times between angels and demons are not the same, and there will be some deviations. I have already felt this aura that makes me sick. The reason why That couple and you in Senag became much unluckier than before, after encountering me, is that the fortieth angel in the Godly Sequence, The Angel of Doom, has awakened, and angels and demons are inevitable enemies. Even if he has not discovered us yet, The power he has awakened will also subtly want to kill us because of the destined fate, so we will become more and more unlucky."

Looking at the splendid door in front of him, the little beggar frowned and thought about what the sword said. That's totally ridiculous and untrustworthy to him because it's almost another world against his values and basic knowledge. He almost has no reason to believe what it said. Besides, how could you trust a demon's words even if demons and angels do exist on the continent?

Today's Demon Emperor's Sword was nagging due to the importance of this matter.

"Boy, of course, as the king in the Devilish Sequence, it is almost impossible for these trash angels to discover me when I want to hide, but I suggest that we evacuate this city temporarily. "

It continued.

"I have just awakened, and your current health is too poor to fully bear my power. It is still a bit troublesome to deal with a feathered birdman in this state, and some of these angels may have already gathered so there may be more than one angel here. We should now gather the demons in the Devilish Sequence under my rule. Do you understand, human boy?"

Even though this sword had just explained a lot, it only meant escape and retreat after all. The little beggar couldn't understand why the Blood Pupil was still full of arrogance. He lowered his head and found that the baby girl in his arms had fallen asleep.

He doubted what the sword said deeply. But if what the sword said was true, then if he put the baby girl here rashly at this moment, the baby who was entangled by bad luck was much more likely to die.

Putting her at the orphanage's door seemed the safer choice, he thought. After all, this sword did bring him some incredible powers. For example, when he had already exceeded the physical limit of his body, it could always give him the strength to act.

But the beggar didn't think that what the sword said was important. To a rat in a sewer of the city, the only thing he wanted was just to live. Now he has offended some celebrities (the girl he kidnapped and her family) and gangsters (Fox and its customers) in the city for the baby, it's reasonable for him to move to another city.

"Of course, you can also think that these may be just pure coincidences. They are all coincidences. What the fuck about the Godly Sequence and the Devilish Sequence. and The Angel of Doom is also my bullshit, hahaha, That is so funny."

The little beggar stood in front of the glorious door and was about to leave, heading for the gate of the orphanage.

But sometimes, bad luck comes to those who have fallen out of God's favor, even if they stand still and do nothing.

This glorious door was actually opened by the people inside.

"Woof! Woof woof!" A ferocious wolf-dog howl came.

The roar coming from the door instantly accelerated the little beggar's heartbeat.

The nameplate on this gate actually contained the name of the most notorious gangster in Senag. Their members could kill homeless people, thieves, and even normal civilians. As long as they deal with it cleanly afterward, they could turn these murders into unknown missing, and most officials wouldn't dare to offend them.

The baby girl was awakened by the roars of three vicious dogs. After being roared one after another, she finally got scared and began to cry loudly and sharply.

The gang member squinted at the crying baby girl. Then, he saw that the person in front of him was just a little beggar, and he cursed again.

"Which bitch left these two bastards? No wonder I lost a total of two hundred gold coins in a game of cards just now. It turns out that it was all the bad luck caused by the bastards outside!"

"Woof woof woof!" The ferocious wolf dog's cry became more and more crazy.

"Oh? Aisalia, Medalanro, Elizabeth, are you hungry? Okay! The bodies of these two people will be your dinner. you two won't bring bad luck to me anymore. "He laughed insanely.
