Chapter 290 - Chapter 290: Family Reunion and the Discovered Listening Device

"Is it that serious?" Carol was unaware of Clark and Robert's situation. After thinking it over, she decided she could quickly locate Alex using her speed. Seeing Nick Fury's grave expression, Carol prepared to learn more about the situation from him.

"It's very serious!" Nick Fury nodded, and the next moment, videos appeared on the wall beside him. These were footage of Clark and Robert during previous incidents, mostly of Clark. The videos of Robert were from his battle against the Demon Lord of Hell.

"What a devastating force! Is this the Demon Lord of Hell?" Initially, Carol was not drawn to the videos, as they mostly showed Clark helping civilians. However, her eyebrows furrowed when she saw the footage of Robert fighting the Demon Lord of Hell and the explosion at the scene. The video of Clark killing the Demon Lord of Hell made Carol look even more serious.

You see, Hell isn't just Earth's hell; it's also a hell in the universe. Carol, who had dealt with demons from hell dimensions in the universe, knew that demons like the Demon Lord of Hell were extremely rare even there.

"We don't know much either, but their destructive power is already beyond humanity's ultimate weapons. We've tried to approach them, but got nothing. They don't seem to heed or follow any official advice..." Nick Fury shook his head gravely and whispered, "However, their appearance isn't without trace. At least, that's the case with Superman. Once you've dealt with your family matters, could you?"

"Yes, after I handle the family business, I'll come back to you," Carol nodded, her figure flashing away instantly, and with Carol's promise, Nick Fury felt somewhat relieved, as if reassured.

"But to think, it's been over a decade since I last saw her, Carol is still so decisive!" Watching Carol disappear, Nick Fury couldn't help but mutter to himself with a trace of sentiment.

On the other side, Carol reached her destination faster than Alex could, given her incredibly fast flying speed.

Soon, Alex appeared before Carol, looking somewhat different from Carol's memory, but to Alex, Carol looked exactly as she remembered, just with a change in outfit and hairstyle.

"Carol!" Alex called out excitedly to Carol. When Carol saw Alex, she paused for a moment to make the connection before embracing her.

"You're really back, that's great! Mom and Dad thought something had happened to you!" Alex exclaimed as she rushed into Carol's arms, her voice filled with excitement.

"Sorry, things in the universe have just been so overwhelming. Leading a race to find their way isn't easy…" Carol spoke apologetically.

Originally, Carol hadn't realized how challenging it was to navigate the universe. She thought finding a habitable planet for the Skrulls would be straightforward.

However, most of the planets in the universe weren't habitable. Even with the Skrulls' unique abilities, they couldn't survive long-term on lifeless planets.

Life-bearing planets were precious in the universe. Either they were inhabited by native life forms, or developed by high-level civilizations. How could they possibly let the Skrulls live there unconditionally?

Even though Carol was a powerful figure in the universe, she couldn't just forcefully take over a planet.

Not only was this out of character for Carol, but even if she did so, she couldn't ensure no one would seek revenge against the Skrulls, especially since she couldn't always protect them. The Skrulls, having few capable fighters, would face a dire fate if anyone took advantage of Carol's absence, especially considering their arch-enemies, the Kree, were thriving in the universe.

For these reasons, Carol had been in the universe for fifteen years before she finally had a chance to return to Earth.

"It's good you're back... Oh, our family has grown!" Alex said, seeing Carol's apology, then laughed.

"Oh? Did you get married? I can't believe I missed such an important event," Carol said, a hint of regret in her eyes, assuming that the family growing meant just that—unless it was the Danvers experiencing a late family addition.

"You guessed wrong. I'm the slowest to progress in our family... Well, if you haven't made any progress, you might be just as slow," Alex shook her head, smiling as she explained, "After you left, Mom and Dad found a little girl and adopted her. So you have another sister now!"

"Is it because I left?" Carol's expression dimmed slightly, her voice tinged with guilt as she looked at Alex.

While Carol felt justified in her actions for the Skrulls and the universe, she admitted she owed her family a lot.

"No, not at all! I'll tell you... Never mind, you'll see when you meet her. Let's go home now..." Alex quickly waved her hands dismissively, changing the subject and saying

, "You've been home before, right? After some issues arose and at Carol's request, we moved..."

"There were issues? Nick Fury didn't help you all?" Carol frowned upon hearing Alex's words.

"Nick Fury? The director of S.H.I.E.L.D.? What does he have to do with our family?" Alex looked puzzled, having a not-so-favorable view of Nick Fury despite having little interaction. She'd heard from Carol about Nick Fury targeting Clark and Robert, viewing them both as family and naturally holding no good feelings towards him.

"Let's not talk about it now, let's head home!" Seeing Alex's reaction, Carol's gaze flickered as she touched the phone in her pocket, deciding not to delve further into the matter and instead scooped Alex up, smiling, "Have you ever experienced flying? Let me show you..."

"Okay, I'll guide you!" Alex laughed internally, planning to tell Carol about the situation with Carol and others but now felt the upcoming reunion would be more interesting, so she held back, letting Carol carry her into the sky.

Meanwhile, at the base, Nick Fury frowned as he watched his phone's tracking system struggle to keep up with Carol's fast movements. When Carol changed locations again just as the tracker had pinpointed her, Fury muttered, "Huh? Where is everyone?"

Looking around the empty Danvers farm, Alex felt confused, then thought of the Savage Islands. It made sense for Clark and Robert to be absent, but not the Kent and Danvers couples unless something had happened.

"Carol, I'll guide, you fly us there..." Realizing this, Alex smiled at Carol.

"Hmm?" Carol looked puzzled but nodded, following Alex's directions towards the Savage Islands.

Alex wasn't very clear on the exact location of the Savage Islands but remembered the general area well from her many visits. They'd find it eventually, especially with Carol's speed.

"Why are they gone again?" Fury, watching his phone, felt bewildered, "Is Alex's home that far away?"

Before Fury could ponder further, the phone's signal abruptly cut off. Both sound and tracking disappeared completely, as Carol had entered the mist surrounding the Savage Islands.

"What is this place?" Inside the mist, Carol slowed down, alertly looking around and asking Alex, concerned primarily about protecting Alex in case of any danger.

"It's okay, just keep going forward!" Alex didn't explain further, instead reassuring Carol with a smile.

Hearing Alex's laughter, Carol instinctively furrowed her brows, feeling something was off, but couldn't pinpoint what. It was unthinkable that her sister would harm her, even after fifteen years apart.

Thus, Carol sped up, flying into the mist, and soon emerged into a completely new world.

"What is this?" Carol was surprised, not expecting a different world hidden beyond the mist.

"Hmm? Who is this? Is Alex being held hostage?" At the same time, aboard a spaceship, Robert frowned, looking towards Carol and contemplating a move, then vanished from his spot.

Clark and Kara quickly noticed Carol and flew towards her.

"Hmm?" Distracted by the new world of the Savage Islands, Carol sensed Robert and others approaching, her expression turning cautious and serious.

"Wait, don't misunderstand!" Alex was quick to react, having prepared since entering the Savage Islands, and she hurriedly shouted, hoping to prevent a confrontation between Carol and Robert.

"Hmm?" Hearing Alex, Carol and the newly arrived Robert and others halted, all turning their gaze towards Alex in Carol's arms.

"Kara, this is Kara," Alex quickly introduced everyone, "She's Carol, our sister..."

"Ah?" With Kara's surprised exclamation, the impending fight was averted, but Carol's gaze shifted to Clark, noticing he was still dressed in his Superman costume—of course, it was the regular suit Clark had made himself.

However, Carol soon lost interest in that detail, her attention caught by the Danvers couple. Seeing their eldest daughter after fifteen years, tears welled up in their eyes, making the moment all the more poignant.

Not only did Jor-El appear in AI form, but Carol had returned from the universe, completing a true family reunion.

"You have a listening device on you." As the family began to talk, Jor-El suddenly stared at Carol, announcing, "But this subspace blocks all external signals, so it hasn't been tracked. I checked, and it's an Earth-level tech listening and tracking device. Given your speed, they could only catch bits of conversation..."

Carol, hearing this, took out her phone from her pocket, her expression darkening. She suddenly felt that Nick Fury had changed during her absence.

Previously, Carol was only somewhat suspicious, but now, with Jor-El identifying the device in her phone, her doubts started to consolidate.

Especially considering Fury's comments about Superman and Saiyans being threats, Carol was now forced to reevaluate her stance.

After all, Carol

might not know Robert was a Saiyan, but Clark was right there in his Superman costume—how could she not know Clark's identity?

"Nick Fury..." Carol muttered, causing Clark and Robert to glance at each other.

"That black egg?" Robert raised an eyebrow, remembering the name since Fury had schemed against him before, giving him a nickname. Robert had no fond feelings for him.

"Black egg?" Carol was momentarily taken aback by Robert's comment, then laughed, finding it quite fitting.
