"Welcome to today's history class. We're going to be talking about a long list of mythical creatures and first on our list are mermaids" Mrs Tabitha introduced.
"Ooh mermaids! They're really pretty" Victoria said.
"Pfft" Cassie scoffed, "real mermaids aren't pretty".
"How can you judge them when you haven't even seen one" Victoria questioned Cassie.
"Neither have you!" Cassie replied with a raise in her voice.
"Silence the both of you! You can leave if you feel uncomfortable about today's topic".
"Sorry Mrs Tabitha" The both of them apologized.
"Okay. We're talking about mermaids but not ordinary mermaids..."
"Sirens?" Victoria cut in.
"Sirens aren't even mermaids!" Cassie pointed out.
"That's enough from the both of you! One more word and you're seriously going to leave my class!".
"We're sorry Mrs Tabitha".
"I don't need your apologies, all I need is your attention".
"You can start now Mrs Tabitha. We promise to be quiet" Victoria said in a remorseful tone.
"Thank you Victoria. Like I was saying, we're not going to talk about ordinary mermaids. We're going to be talking about the Moonlit Mermaids.
In the azure depths of the ocean, beneath the shimmering surface where sunlight dances and waves caress the shoreline lies a realm of untold beauty and mystery. This is the domain of the Moonlit Mermaids, creatures of legend and lore whose enchanting songs echo through the vast expanse of the sea.
Long ago, It is said that the Moonlit Mermaids were born from the tears of the Moon goddess herself, gifted with ethereal beauty and boundless grace. With tails of iridescent scales that glimmered like precious gems in the moonlight, they roamed the depths of the ocean, their laughter mingling with the whispers of the waves.
According to ancient tales passed down through generations, the Moonlit Mermaids were guardians of the sea, entrusted with the task of preserving its delicate balance and protecting its inhabitants from harm. With their mystical powers, they could control the tides, calm tempestuous storms and guide lost souls to safety.
But despite their benevolent nature, the Moonlit Mermaids were also elusive and enigmatic beings, rarely seen by mortal eyes. They dwelled in hidden grottoes and secret caverns, where they revealed in the beauty of their underwater kingdom and communed with creatures of the deep.
Legends tell of a sailor who claimed to have glimpsed the Moonlit Mermaids beneath the light of a full moon, their voices carrying across the waves like a haunting melody. Some spoke of encounters with mermaids who saved them from certain doom, guiding their ships safely through treacherous waters with a gentle touch of their magical fins.
Yet for all their beauty and benevolence, the Moonlit Mermaids were not immune to the dangers of the ocean. Tales speak of ancient sorrows and tragedies that befell their kind, from lost loves to bitter betrayals, leaving them to mourn in the depths of the sea.
To this day, the legend of Moonlit Mermaids lives on, woven into the fabric of maritime folklore and whispered among sailors as they brave the open waters. Whether myth or reality, their legacy endures, a testament to the enduring power of magic and the boundless wonders of the oceans depths".
"It's nice and all but isn't there any story of an encounter with the Moonlit Mermaids?" Eugenia asked Mrs Tabitha.
"I love your inquisitiveness Eugenia. There is a story of an encounter with the Moonlit Mermaids. It's actually recent, not less than twenty years ago".
"Oh my goodness, I think we'll love to hear it" Eugenia said and the entire class concurred with her.
"Some time ago, according to what principal Margaret told me when I went to her, asking the same question Eugenia just asked. She told me that one of her acquaintances had an encounter with the Moonlit Mermaids when she was pregnant".
"Did they eat her baby?!" Cassie asked.
"No Cassie. The Moonlit Mermaids aren't as bad as you think, they actually saved the woman and her baby".
"The woman? She doesn't have a name?" Linda asked.
"Principal Margaret kept her name private due to untold personal reasons but for storytelling purposes, we'll call her... What should we call her? Any suggestions?".
"We can call her Eugenia" Victoria suggested.
"Uh, no? Don't use my name".
"Okay, okay. Let's just call her Jennifer. One day, pregnant Jennifer went for a walk in the night at a beach. As the moon casted its ethereal glow upon the tranquil waters. Jennifer felt the irresistible urge to to immerse herself in the ocean's embrace. Ignoring the warnings of her friend– principal Margaret, she ventured into the surf, each stroke carrying her further from the safety of the shore and deeper into the heart of the sea.
Drawn by the allure of the moonlit waves, Jennifer surrendered to the siren call of the ocean, her heart pounding with exhilaration as she dived beneath the surface. For a moment, she reveled on the freedom and weightlessness of the underwater world, oblivious to the dangers that lurked beneath.
But as Jennifer ventured further from the shore, she was caught in the grip of a powerful undertow, the currents dragging her down into the depths below. Panic gripped her heart as she struggled against the relentless pull of the ocean, her lungs burning for air as darkness threatened to engulf her.
Just as Jennifer felt herself slipping beneath the surface, she was enveloped by a shimmering light that emanated from the depths below. Through the haze of her panic, she glimpsed at the graceful forms of the Moonlit Mermaids, their tails shimmering with iridescent scales as they glided effortlessly through the water.
With a gentle touch, the Moonlit Mermaids wrapped Jennifer in their embrace, their voices mingling in a soothing melody that calmed her racing heart. Through their combined strength, they pulled Jennifer from the clutches of the undertow, guiding her to the safety of the surface where she gasped for breath, her body trembling with exhaustion and relief.
As Jennifer clinged to consciousness, she found herself surrounded by the Moonlit Mermaids, their luminous eyes filled with concern and compassion. With gentle hands, they treated her wounds and offered words of comfort, their presence a soothing balm to her weary soul.
But even as Jennifer basked in the warmth of their kindness, the Moonlit Mermaids issued a solemn warning, cautioning her of the dangers that lurked beneath the surface of the sea. They urged her to tread carefully in the oceans depths, for not all who dwell there are as benevolent as they.
With gratitude overflowing in her heart, Jennifer vowed to repay the Moonlit Mermaids for their selfless act of heroism, pledging to honor their warning and respect the ocean's power. Though she might have been saved from the depths this time, she knew that the sea holds many secrets and she must tread carefully if she was to survive its unfathomable depths. The end".
"Wow, she's one lucky lady" Owen said.
"She is. Well see you in the next class, students". Mrs Tabitha said standing up. The whole class stood up and slowly dispersed from the class.
