Cassie headed down to the staff room. She had a question to ask Mrs Tabitha, the history teacher; how do unidentified black bloods find out about their clan?
She suddenly felt this irresistible urge to pee and she changed her initial direction and headed to the school's female students bathroom. Two female students, Eugenia and Victoria walked in and they started discussing about a topic that seemed to interest Cassie.
"I heard that a particular student came across the book of the dread and was immediately possessed by it" Victoria said to Eugenia. Cassie paused and looked back, were they talking about her?
"Yeah, I heard she was almost going insane but luckily she was saved by the principal" Eugenia said. Cassie shrugged and opened the door.
"But don't you think there's something weird about what happened?" Eugenia asked Victoria. Cassie paused again. What was weird about it? They should have used the word 'scary' instead of weird.
"I understand the reason why she got possessed, she's a black blood but about her getting saved is really confusing".
"What's confusing about it?" Victoria asked her.
"The book of the dread is a book of enchantments that was written down by the ancient white blood elders during the fight for the blood stone..."
"And?".
"And she could only be set free from the curse of the book if the book which she had previously opened was sealed by a white blood".
Cassie gasped, "Are you sure Eugenia?".
"Of course Cassie, I was surprised too when I heard it from Mrs Tabitha" Eugenia replied.
"That means it wasn't the principal that saved the girl. It also means that we have a white blood in S.U.M.S".
"Let's go now Victoria. See you later, Cassie" Eugenia said and walked out with Victoria. Cassie stood there speechless.
If Eugenia and Victoria's words were correct that'll mean that Linda is... Cassie brushed off the thought and did what she came to the bathroom to do in the first place.
Back at the dorm, Cassie couldn't help but stare at Linda in a questionable way.
"Is everything alright, Cassie?" Linda asked her.
"Yeah, why?".
"It's just that you've been staring at me like I'm a shape shifting spirit".
"Pfft, I know you are not a shape shifting spirit, I'm just happy that I have you in my life".
"Aww, thanks Cassie".
Cassie nodded and got up from the bed, Linda looked innocent to her.
"I'll be back, I need to go somewhere" Cassie said.
"Okay. Don't get into trouble this time and come back before curfew".
"Yes ma'am" Cassie said with a smile and walked out of the room.
"Tell me everything you know about white bloods" Cassie said to Mrs Tabitha.
"Well hello to you too Cassie".
"Hello Mrs Tabitha. So can you now answer my question?".
"White bloods are creatures of magic that can..."
"I know that but during our previous class, you said that it was hard to differentiate white bloods and black bloods from red bloods..."
"So?"
"So I want you to tell me how I can identify a white blood".
"Uh, white bloods can't morph into monsters like you and I and the rest of S.U.M.S". Cassie thought for a while.
Thinking about it now, she actually hasn't seen Linda morph into a creature since she met her.
"Are you suspecting someone of being a white blood?" Mrs Tabitha asked her.
"I think so".
"Well unlike black bloods that are born because of our parents heredity, white bloods are chosen by the earth. Who's this person that you're suspicious of?".
"Just someone that I know".
"Well there is one way to differentiate a black blood from a white blood. You can achieve that using the Lumina Veritas".
"Isn't that latin for The Light of Truth?".
"Yes. It is an ancient mirror, a relic said to pierce through illusions and reveal the true nature of one's blood".
"Well where can I get it?".
"It's locked behind the stone door and thinking of opening it is risky as the shape shifting spirit might be free again". Cassie sunk into her chair in disappointment.
"Just kidding! It's right here" Mrs Tabitha said bringing out a mirror from her drawer and handing it to Cassie.
"Thank you so much Mrs Tabitha. You're the best!" Cassie said and hurriedly ran out.
"Linda, do you mind reading out the words written on this mirror. I'm not that good in Latin" Cassie lied in a bid to get her look in the mirror.
"Luminas ver..." Linda immediately closed her eyes as the mirror reflected a white pristine light when she looked into the mirror.
"So it's true" Cassie said to her feeling a little bit heartbroken.
"What is?" Linda asked placing the mirror on top of the shelf.
"You are a white blood".
Linda stared at her speechlessly, "How did you know that?".
"You must really take me for a fool, don't you? How could you keep this hidden from me, I thought we're friends!".
"I didn't tell you because I wasn't sure of how you'll react".
"Liar!".
"I'm not lying Cassie. I have never lied to you. You think it was easy for me? I'm attending a school that stopped hunting and killing white bloods like a month ago! Do you even know how hard it was for me to keep my true identity hidden?! I would've have been killed or worse served alive for dinner if anyone found out earlier!".
"Then why didn't you tell me?!".
"To avoid arguments like this, obviously!".
"No, you're lying. You didn't tell me because you didn't trust me. Do you even see me as your friend?!".
"Are you being serious right now. I killed my only sister so I could save you. Do you know how much the burden of her death weighs me down every single day?!" Linda said tears forming in her eyes. Cassie didn't know what to say.
"I... I'm sorry about that Linda but... You could've told me. We're friends, I'm supposed to share that burden with you. You can't carry everything on your shoulder" Cassie said in a remorseful tone.
"I was going to tell you tomorrow during archery practice, after all, hunting and killing of white bloods is now prohibited and I don't even know if I'm the last of my kind".
"I'm really sorry Linda. I wasn't supposed to react that way. That was really stupid of me" Cassie apologized.
"I understand and I should've told you, I'm sorry about that Cassie".
"It's fine. What's a greater display of friendship if not working out our misunderstandings?".
Linda smiled and Cassie moved closer to her, cleaning her(Linda's) tears.
"I don't care if you are white blood, I like you just the way you are" Cassie said embracing Linda.
