Chapter 52 - Chapter 52:Totosai 4

The retreat journey of Inuyasha and Asahiko's group ended shortly before sunset, at which point it could be considered that they had gotten far enough away from Sesshōmaru and his flawless quest.

The first thing they did upon landing in the vicinity of a small river, was to search for food in the surrounding forest, as Inuyasha's group is composed of humans who need it and Asahiko who only eats for the sake of eating. All these actions lead to the fact that when the group finally decides to rest, the sun is already beginning to descend from its peak and to mark the beginning of the sunset, letting its orange rays bathe the world with that color.

Christopher/Asahiko pov.

"Don't you think you've overdone it. On the other hand, it was my understanding that pure demons don't need the sustenance of food."

Hearing Miroku's question, I withdraw my eyes that are on the boar cooking on the nearby campfire, before looking at the two corpses belonging to the same species as the previous one and then give Miroku an answer.

"No way, Totosai has used a large-scale attack to buy time against Sesshōmaru, Inuyasha was slammed to the ground like he was a child and I'm in full recovery... So yeah, we need a lot of food!"

Raising my voice for the last words and knocking the boar carcasses that are piled on top of each other, I ignore Inuyasha who doesn't seem to have liked my words, before opening my fan to blow the smoke away from my face, then continue with my answer.

"About the other thing... The truth is, yes. I don't need to eat, drink liquids, I need little sleep time to recover my energies and I'm incredibly beautiful... Haaa, the benefits of being a full demon."

Letting out a sigh at the end of my words, as if I'm saying "I'm too perfect", I look towards Inuyasha who has a rather dark look on his face, before a scream from the side makes us look over.

"He's completely devoured it!"

"Where's the food, where am I?"

"Gluttonous old man!"

It all happened in a few moments, as I turn my head towards the campfire I see that the boar has disappeared, while Shippo shouts accusingly towards Totosai who is lying on the ground, after Inuyasha hit him for eating all the boar and then playing dumb.

"Looks like it was a good idea for him to hunt for extra food."

"Indeed..."

With Miroku's awkward chuckle, he tossed one of the boars to Inuyasha for him to place on the fire and with that the atmosphere calmed down again for a few moments, until another topic of conversation came up.

"Elder, I've been meaning to ask when we were on our way here, but now that I remember does Sesshōmaru's sword also hold amazing powers?"

Kagome's question attracted the attention of the whole group, including mine, causing the surroundings to go silent for a few seconds.

"Sesshōmaru's... Sure, it is an amazing and powerful sword, there is no other sword like it in this world. But when his father entrusted me with that favor... We let him modify Sacred Fang's capabilities a bit."

Watching as Totosai starts throwing flames to make the boar cook faster, I raise my ears again to better listen to the conversation going on.

"A sword that can't be cut? How are you going to fight with a sword like that?"

"Sacred Fang is not for fighting enemies, rather it is a sword that serves to renew."

Answering Inuyasha's doubts above, he ignores Kagome who repeats the word "Renew" before continuing her story.

"While Steel Fang was made to deliver power to the strong, Sacred Fang serves to regenerate the lives of the weak."

"The lives?"

"If that person shows his true feelings, he is capable of saving a hundred people in a single shake."

Stirring the embers of the bonfire with his iron hammer, Totosai continues to speak despite the interruption of Sango who shows her doubts aloud, although the interruption doesn't end there, as later Kagome and Miroku open their mouths.

"His true feelings…"

"I see, it's a sword completely opposite to Steel Fang. It can save the lives of a hundred people."

"Can that even be considered a weapon?"

You know this thing about them jumping in from the side when they're telling me the backstory, I don't like it at all, but I too share Sango's doubt and Miroku's thoughts are always interesting.

"In this world of wars and total chaos it can be put to a thousand uses. It is a sword that is capable of reviving the dead."

Giving a few confirmations with a nod to Miroku, I stop my movements to let Totosai speak again.

"I was thinking of naming it something like burial, but when I was done with the work they dared to give it a shocking name like Sacred Fang... Well, I guess the lord named it that for a reason, though it's likely that sole will like to rename weapons like his that went from being called Souga to Cloudy Fang."

Tossing the hammer aside, Totosai points towards my waist or more accurately towards the sword resting there, before saying some interesting words that make Inuyasha roll his eyes at me, only to let out a surprised yelp.

"You mean his sword is called Cloudy Fang?"

"Inuyasha, Inuyasha... The two damn times we fought, he always raised my sword to the sky and screamed at the top of his lungs Cloudy Fang!!!, before throwing a power cut at you... Did you just now realize?"

Tapping my forehead with my tail, I pointed out the obvious of all our encounters and in passing asked him if he's faking to which he simply looks away, before speaking to Totosai.

"Now I understand everything, that's the reason why Sesshōmaru is after Steel Fang, after all he wouldn't dare to use a sword that can only save people... but wouldn't he have to go after Asahiko too?"

"The thing is that Clouded Fang was sealed until recently, then Sesshōmaru could only settle for Steel Fang. Perhaps he doesn't even know that Asahiko has this sword in his possession, causing him to only focus on you."

Finished speaking, Totosai tries to grab the freshly made boar again, though he is hit by Miroku's staff, before being dragged to the side by Inuyasha.

"I already knew...that it would be difficult for Sesshōmaru to settle for that sword."

"With his temper, it's not surprising."

Nodding at Miroku's words along with the rest of the group, we gathered around the boar, before starting dinner while cautiously watching Totosai who was salivating all over the place.
