Chapter 116 - Classroom Encounter

Elian packed his bag as the class came to an end, glancing around the room to ensure he hadn't forgotten anything. Res had already dashed off to her next class, leaving him alone in the classroom. Just as he was about to leave, he felt a presence beside him. Turning, he found himself face to face with a girl, her light brown hair cascading over her shoulders.

"Hey there," she said with a flirtatious smile, her voice dripping with arrogance.

Elian raised an eyebrow, wary of her intentions. "Can I help you?"

The girl leaned in closer, her gaze lingering on him. "I couldn't help but notice you in class. You're quite intriguing."

Elian's expression remained impassive. "Is that so?"

She nodded, a smug grin playing on her lips. "Indeed. I was thinking we could grab a coffee sometime, get to know each other better."

Elian's demeanor shifted, a frown creasing his brow. "I appreciate the offer, but I already have a girlfriend."

The girl's smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure. "Oh, really? I hope it's not that loser Res."

Elian's eyes narrowed, his temper flaring. "Watch your words. Res is a good friend of mine, unlike you, who seems to be more interested in status than genuine connections."

The girl recoiled slightly, taken aback by his response. "I-I didn't mean..."

Elian cut her off with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Save it. I have better things to do than entertain your superficiality." With that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the classroom, leaving the girl speechless in his wake.

As Elian stepped out of the classroom, he spotted Drake waiting for him in the hallway. Drake raised an eyebrow as Elian approached, a curious expression on his face.

"What took you so long?" Drake asked, a playful smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.

Elian shrugged, a faint smile quirking his lips. "Just some b*tch trying to flirt with me."

Drake chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Seriously? And here I thought you were the one who chased off girls with a scowl."

Elian chuckled softly, the tension from the encounter easing off. "I guess some people just don't get the hint."

Drake clapped him on the shoulder, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well, she clearly doesn't know who she's dealing with. Trying to get with the king of Eristia? She must be out of her mind."

Elian laughed, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Drake. "Yeah, she definitely underestimated me."

Together, they continued down the hallway, their laughter echoing off the walls as they shared a moment of camaraderie amidst the chaos of their daily lives at the academy.

**************

Professor Eldan's voice rumbled like distant thunder, weaving tales of mythical creatures and the artifacts imbued with their essence. Elian leaned forward, captivated by the hologram shimmering on the board – a cytokinetic yeti's fur, radiating a faint blue energy. He scribbled notes, his mind buzzing with possibilities. Imagine harnessing that power, weaving spells with a fraction of the yeti's raw might.

"Imagine," Professor Eldan echoed, his eyes twinkling, "clothing woven from griffin feathers, granting the wearer unparalleled agility, or a necklace crafted from a phoenix's tear, offering potent healing magic."

A thrill shot through Elian. He glanced at Drake, who mirrored his excitement, a grin splitting his face. This wasn't just theory; these were tangible tools waiting to be discovered.

Professor Eldan launched into a historical tapestry, weaving tales of ancient civilizations that mastered these artifacts, wielding them to forge empires and rewrite history. As Elian listened, a familiar ache settled in his chest – a yearning for something more, a purpose beyond the confines of the classroom.

The bell jolted him back to reality. He gathered his things, his mind swirling with ideas. He yearned to explore these artifacts firsthand, not just through dusty old tomes. But the excitement battled with a nagging unease leftover from their recent mission. The darkness he'd glimpsed lingered at the edges of his mind.

Lunchtime found Elian surrounded by his friends, their chatter a welcome distraction. Kyle rubbed his eyes, muttering about deciphering ancient runes. Marco chimed in, recounting his struggle with endless transcribing. Res and Hera, usually lively, mirrored their exhaustion.

"Academy life," Marcus chuckled, taking a bite of his sandwich. "Not all sunshine and magical battles, eh?"

Elian forced a smile. "Yeah, definitely not." The camaraderie of his friends was an anchor amidst the chaos.

A shadow fell across their table – the girl from class. Her scowl spoke volumes, her lips pressed into a thin line. Drake noticed it first, nudging Elian with a teasing grin.

"Seems someone's not a fan," he remarked.

Elian chuckled, a touch strained. "Guess not. Just politely declined her offer to study."

Res bristled, her fists clenching. "Did she have to say those things about me?"

Hera placed a hand on her arm, her voice soothing. "Let it go, Res. Some people just need attention."

Elian nodded, a spark of defiance in his eyes. "Exactly. Besides, she wouldn't know a true friend if it bit her."

Drake leaned back, booming with laughter. "Right on, Elian! She had no idea she was trying to flirt with… the king of Eristia!"

The group burst into laughter, the tension dissipating. Despite the annoyance of the encounter, Elian felt a wave of warmth wash over him. These were the people who knew him, the ones who understood his quiet strength. They were his chosen family, and together, they would face whatever challenges awaited them, magical artifacts or not.
