He had forgotten that chaos magic was unpredictable and disruptive. He had hoped to unlock some secret knowledge, but instead, he had just destroyed the tablet.
As Zenyph cursed his luck, the water slowly started to float towards his hand, as if it were drawn to it. Zenyph stared in amazement as the water started to coil around his hands, forming a perfect sphere. Zenyph didn't know how to describe the feeling, but it was like he was connected to the water, like it was a part of him. It was different from normal water magic, which relied on his control over the element. This was something else entirely.
Zenyph was in awe as he held the ball of water, letting it dance in his hands. He didn't know what to do, but he felt a sense of power and freedom that he had never experienced before. He didn't know if it was due to the chaos magic or his connection to the water, but it was an intoxicating feeling.
The ball of water suddenly split into two, and one half floated to the left and the other to the right, both circling Zenyph like birds dancing in the air. He reached out and grabbed both of them, bringing them back together in one large sphere. As he concentrated, the sphere split again, creating smaller balls of water. The spheres continued to divide, getting smaller and smaller, until they were as small as pebbles. They danced around him, spinning and twirling through the air. He was in complete control, and it felt amazing.
After a few minutes, the balls of water began to merge back into a larger sphere, which then took the shape of a door. Zenyph laughed, amazed that he could create something so intricate out of simple water. He didn't know how to control chaos magic, but he was starting to get a grasp on it. He smiled as the door of water dissolved into drops and fell to the floor.
A new possibility opened up to Zenyph. He could use chaos magic to manipulate things, not just destroy them. He didn't understand why, but chaos magic seemed to have a unique affinity for water, almost as if it belonged to it.
The tablet was gone, but Zenyph wasn't worried. He had a hunch that chaos magic could make anything possible, if he was able to master it. But he knew it would take a long time, and he had no idea how to begin to comprehend chaos magic. The other elements were relatively easy. There was science on water, fire, blood, earth, space, time, light, and darkness. Chaos seemed to be beyond such understanding.
Still, Zenyph was determined to try. Chaos was the one thing that he felt gave him a fighting chance in this new life, and he wouldn't give up until he mastered it.
"So, the library is where you've been hiding all this time, brother?" said a familiar voice.
Zenyph turned to see Norena standing in the doorway, a smirk on her face.
"Nori, it's good to see you," replied Zenyph, happy to see a friendly face.
"I've been looking everywhere for you, I heard Celeste was here earlier. What happened between you two?" asked Norena, curious to learn more.
"It's a long story, but basically, she found out about Audrey and kicked my ass. It was weird."
"Sounds like her, she's always been a pacifist at heart. Even when she was little she hated the thought of violence. But she knows how to throw a punch, I'll give her that."
"I noticed," said Zenyph, as he dramatically rubbed his cheek, which was still sore.
"What's that?" asked Norena, pointing to the water that was floating above Zenyph's palm.
Zenyph felt conflicted, on the one hand Norena has been nothing but helpful ever since he met her, but on the other hand she was a wildcard. He remembered when he saw Norena holding that student's crushed head. It was obvious she was crazy and strong. It was probably not a good idea to tell her about his newfound powers, in case she becomes an enemy.
"Nothing, just messing around with some water." said Zenyph, dismissively.
"Hmm, I bet," said Norena, her eyes narrowing. She could sense that it wasn't just ordinary water, but she didn't want to press him. Or at least that was her plan.
"You know, I can practically taste the lies you're telling. Why don't you just show me, I'm your sister after all."
Zenyph hesitated, knowing that Norena could easily overpower him. But he decided to show her, hoping that maybe she could help him.
"Alright, just don't freak out or anything."
Zenyph waved his hand, and the water formed the same door as he had seen earlier.
"I've never been able to form an inanimate object with any mana before, so this is quite interesting," said Zenyph, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
But Norena was speechless. Unlike Zenyph, who hadn't even begun scratching the surface with all the mana types, she had trained in mana her whole life, and she had never seen anything like this.
"Chaos magic," whispered Norena to herself in awe.
"How did you know?" asked Zenyph, surprised that she figured it out so quickly.
"I can't believe I'm actually seeing it. I had only heard about it in legends and stories, and even though I had a suspicion about your mana type, I never dreamed you would have it. Chaos magic is the rarest of all, and only the strongest can control it. Not even the pope of Discordance has Chaos magic." explained Norena, excited.
"I'm still confused how you could tell it was chaos. I thought it looked like regular old elemental magic," replied Zenyph, still unsure.
Norena grinned mischievously before she walked up to Zenyph. They were practically nose to nose, their eyes locked. She grabbed his chin, forcing him to look directly at her.
"Look into my eyes."
Zenyph obeyed, and instantly his pupils dilated, and his heart began to race. Norena's eyes were captivating, like a swirling vortex, drawing him in deeper. She had the most mesmerizing eyes, and Zenyph found himself unable to look away.
"This is how I know." said Norena as she tackled Zenyph into the water door, sending them both tumbling into the unknown.
