S.H.I.E.L.D.'s science department mobilized elite members to participate in the research, including individuals like Fitz and Simmons. Despite this, progress was slow, so Daisy had to seek reinforcements.
"Hi, Pepper, is Tony available?" She called Tony Stark, figuring that a tech giant like him would be the right person to tackle this engineering problem. If Stark couldn't solve it, then no human scientist could within the next twenty years.
To her surprise, Pepper Potts answered the phone.
Pepper was feeling bitter at the moment. She had gone from being a personal assistant to suddenly becoming the CEO of Stark Industries, which should have been an uplifting experience. However, she discovered that in her absence, Tony Stark had acquired a charming assistant, which made her extremely uncomfortable.
To compound matters, she received Daisy's call, which further added to her discomfort. Hearing Daisy so affectionately asking for "Tony" only made things worse for her. However, Pepper was very polite and Stark didn't hint at their relationship. She had no authority to stop other women from contacting Stark.
Politely, she inquired, "Yes, he is. May I ask what this is regarding?"
Daisy was busy and had completely forgotten about Black Widow's use of "emotions" to appeal to Stark. She was always slow to pick up on the subtleties of women's interactions, completely oblivious to Pepper's distant tone.
Casually, she replied, "It's a question about aerodynamics."
Pepper was at a loss for words. She had graduated from business school, discussing aerodynamics with her was like talking about ghosts. Since she couldn't refuse, she had to be honest, "We're in Monaco, and Tony's phone is with me."
The implication was that Stark was currently unavailable to take calls.
He had gone to Monaco already? Daisy urgently needed technological support to answer her questions, and Comrade old Pym wasn't in good health recently, and she didn't want to disturb him. Besides, Pym had never been fond of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Reed was still researching his anti-cosmic rays to restore the Thing, and he was too busy everyday that he didn't even think about Susan. Daisy didn't think her status was higher than Susan's. Due to secrecy and mutant issues, so she couldn't go to Hank McCoy either.
Tony Stark was one of the few viable options left.
After giving it some thought, she decided it would be best to go discuss the matter in person. As for Ivan Vanko, if he showed up, she'd just slap him to death.
After confirming Pepper's address, she found out they were staying at Grand Prix De Monaco.
"I'll be back!" Leaving behind a Terminator catchphrase, Daisy bid farewell to Fitz, Simmons, and her other subordinates and left the underground facility.
Normally, she would teleport directly there, but today, a vague thought was influencing her judgment. She felt that among a bunch of tech geeks, she could afford to not care about her appearance, but when facing the so-called "high society," it might be better to dress up a bit?
This thought came to Daisy naturally and didn't seem out of place at all. She teleported back to her villa.
Quickly, she took a bath, throwing the excited Dumpling rushing toward her. She didn't have time to play with her now.
Picking up an eyebrow pencil, she found herself in a dilemma. This was a technical task she had no clue about.
Looking around, she noticed Maki wasn't home, which was quite normal. The maid was either busy in a lawsuit or on her way to a lawsuit. Calling her back wasn't realistic. Luckily, Daisy sensed Lorna in her room watching TV.
"Why didn't you go to school today?" she asked with her big sister authority.
"Not feeling well!" Lorna was pulled out of her room, her tone not too pleased.
Daisy frowned slightly. "What's wrong?"
The girl rolled her eyes like a dead fish, staring at her for a while before muttering, "Not well."
It took Daisy a moment to figure out what she meant. Oh well, if she didn't want to go, she didn't have to.
The reason Daisy had called Lorna over was that the maid wasn't home, and she didn't know how to do her own makeup. Surely, a twelve-year-old girl would know how to dress up a bit?
"Lorna, come help me with my hair!" she commanded the girl like an empress.
Lorna looked helpless. Wasn't this child labor exploitation? It was the first time she had seen a child helping an adult with their hair. Generally, these plots of exploiting minors occurred in fairy tale books, like Cinderella's stepmother...
The girl, feeling like a servant, obeyed Daisy's orders, from styling her hair to putting on makeup, and finally selecting her clothes, jewelry, and shoes.
It wasn't a formal occasion, so Daisy didn't demand much. She just tied her hair up, applied light makeup, wore a couple of pieces of jewelry, and put on a red strapless dress with peep-toe high heels.
"I'm off, I'll take you out for a drive next time." Returning to the ranks of 95+ beauties, she insincerely promised before teleporting away in the disapproving eyes of Lorna.
With a distance of nearly 7,000 kilometers, Daisy had gained some experience with long-distance teleportation. After teleporting twice, she arrived over Iceland twice, and then corrected her course to arrive in Monaco.
With the shower, makeup, teleportation, and the final flight, she appeared in front of Pepper just twenty minutes later.
Actually, in those twenty minutes, she spent fifteen on the first two tasks, so Pepper didn't feel like Daisy's arrival was particularly fast.
"Where's Tony? Oh? Happy's here too, and you...who are you?" Daisy walked into the hotel hurriedly, quickly finding Pepper. She hadn't expected Happy to be here too, and Black Widow...
This left her feeling a little confused. Should she know Black Widow? Technically, she did know her, but she shouldn't acknowledge her in public. But Black Widow had infiltrated the New York legal world with the help of the Maki's connections, so saying she didn't know her wouldn't be accurate. In the end, Daisy wasn't sure if she knew Black Widow or not.
Comrade Natasha was a seasoned agent. She didn't show any abnormality on her face and calmly greeted Daisy, "Miss Johnson, I've heard of your name before. Mr. Stark...oh! My God!"
By the end of her sentence, Natasha's expression couldn't hold up either. That's because she suddenly saw Stark appear on the television broadcast. Just five minutes ago, they had been talking together.
A woman's intuition told her that her mission was also going to be a failure.
Pepper and Happy were equally shocked. It was normal for Stark to appear on television, but being dressed as a race car driver at the Monte Carlo circuit was terrifying.
The track was narrow and not suitable for racing. Because it was so narrow, overtaking was extremely difficult, but for the sake of victory, drivers often attempted overtakes. Skilled drivers won, but more often than not, it resulted in car crashes and fatalities. The death rate at the Monte Carlo circuit was quite high.
Given Tony Stark's personality, there was no way he would sit behind someone else's car and eat their exhaust fumes. He would definitely attempt overtakes, which made the situation very dangerous.
