Chapter 137 - Daisy is a good person...

Obadiah, as a pure businessman, may not understand science, but he understands people. He can see Daisy's interest in the arc reactor, and that's enough.

"Miss Johnson, if you can help us shrink the reactor for commercial use, I can take charge of the over-calculated first installation cost, offsetting it in the name of new product research and development," Obadiah admitted his terms.

Daisy calculated silently. The initial installation cost wasn't much, but it was still in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Saving money would be ideal. Additionally, she was genuinely tempted by the arc reactor; having such a power source would significantly reduce electricity costs. The thought of the annual electricity bill for running the supercomputer, at least a hundred million kWh, made her feel a pang in her heart!

The benefits were saving money, saving money, and more saving money! The downside? Not much, really... just helping Obadiah get a reactor. What harm could there be?

Without external help, he might go snatch the ready-made one from his nephew Stark, and with one wrong move, a snap of a butterfly wing, Stark could end up dead.

On the other hand, if he didn't go for the reactor, Stark could battle Iron Monger with full power.

From this perspective, helping Obadiah develop the reactor was actually doing a good deed!

Daisy comforted herself, feeling like a partner of justice!

She didn't hastily agree. Only if she presented a qualified product, Obadiah would reduce the cost. Plus, Daisy wasn't sure if she could modify the reactor.

Reverse-engineering the original design from existing products was no less challenging than starting from scratch, and she didn't have full confidence.

"No design drawings? Then, do you have basic data? How much data have you gathered that you can show me?" Daisy didn't give a direct answer, but her words made it clear that she wanted to assess the basic data before making a judgment.

Without a second word, Obadiah called over a small old man with a Mediterranean hairstyle and round glasses. He seemed dissatisfied with the old man and briefly introduced him, "Dr. William, talk to Miss Johnson about your current research progress."

The old man glanced at Daisy, dressed in a one-shoulder dress that revealed delicate collarbones and shoulders, and the slender neck wearing a valuable ruby necklace.

With minimal accessories, she looked fresh and delicate, simple and generous. With long legs and high heels, Daisy appeared to be at least 1.8 meters tall, and her lively eyes seemed to freeze the surrounding light in a glance.

The old man was a bit awkward in dealing with people; he didn't look much and had a moment of silence. Was this for scientific research? Why are you bringing a model for this thing?

Daisy guessed the old man's confusion. For business negotiations, she had to dress up a bit. She didn't prepare for any scientific research in advance, and her attire really clashed with the old man's white coat.

Fortunately, she had experience in such situations and calmly brought out her old Comrade Pym as a shield.

A master produces excellent disciples; this saying applies to any social environment.

As soon as Dr. Pym's name was mentioned, the old man immediately expressed his admiration. After seven or eight turns in his mind, he finally equated Daisy in front of him with the name he had seen in academic journals.

"Are you Daisy Johnson? I thought you were a senior in physics..." The old man stuttered, unable to find the right words.

Looking at Daisy's appearance and then at himself, he probably felt half ashamed and half jealous.

Realizing that Daisy did have genuine knowledge and skills, the two began discussing the arc reactor. Stark Industries knew little about the history of the arc reactor, but Daisy knew that Howard Stark was inspired by the Tesseract.

The Red Skull and Dr. Zola's laser tank, along with various laser weapons, were confiscated by the Allied forces. Howard Stark spent twenty years researching this perpetual energy source, hoping to break free from the limitations of the Tesseract and create an energy that belonged to Earth itself.

Unfortunately, scientific breakthroughs don't happen overnight. Even with Anton Vanko's assistance, they could only produce a prototype due to material limitations.

The arc reactor, spanning generations with the combined efforts of father and son, eventually took shape. It finally entered the market as a clean energy source a few years later.

The reactor in Tony Stark's chest today is conceptually no different from the one Daisy is observing—just a scaled-down version.

Daisy circled the reactor, with the old man following her, answering questions occasionally. Some he knew, but for more specific details, he expressed confusion, that they were not clear, he couldn't understand!

Daisy looked down at the old man in silence. Was he really the best Chief Engineer of Stark Industries? His thinking seemed too rigid!

"Go, help me measure a few readings." Daisy circled the five-meter diameter reactor, contemplating the azure electric arc for half an hour, then ordered the old man by her side to do the measurements.

"Me? I'm going!" The old man was dumbfounded. He was the Chief Engineer, after all!

Daisy didn't even give him a proper look, just nodded. How exciting! She was still wearing a narrow skirt and high heels; she couldn't climb up to measure the readings.

The old man turned to Obadiah, and seeing his dark expression he realized that he wasn't going to say anything. With a depressed face, he climbed up to measure the values.

A bunch of parameters that Obadiah couldn't understand were reported, and Daisy rubbed her forehead, starting to calculate. In the middle of it, she even connected to Danger to help with the calculations.

Obadiah initially stood straight and watched, then put his hands on his hips, and finally brought a chair to sit on, waiting on the side.

Meanwhile, the old man had a tough time, manipulated by Daisy all over the place, sweating profusely and too afraid to wipe it off.

After a whole day of calculations, Daisy finally reached a rough result.

The principle of the arc reactor wasn't difficult—it involved winding coils in a ring-shaped vacuum chamber, applying energy to generate a spiral magnetic field, and heating the central palladium element to achieve cold nuclear fusion. It was pollution-free, didn't require high temperatures, and was considered safe and efficient.

The difficulty lay in the abundance of data, where every piece needed to be accurate to generate the spiral magnetic field in the confined space.

In today's world, only Tony Stark and the surviving Anton Vanko knew this data. Daisy could deduce some with her calculations, but not all.

However, she could use her abilities to compress! This was why Professor Charles's technology surpassed the current world. If scientific theory fell short, use powers to fill the gap! Even if the principles weren't fully understood...

Science was a one-time deal; set the numerical values, and there was no room for errors. Powers, on the other hand, could fine-tune within a certain range. If fifteen doesn't work, try sixteen. If sixteen didn't work, then seventeen!

Daisy was currently at this stage. Although she couldn't calculate everything, with the help of some data, she was confident she could make it work.
