Chapter 89 - The Truth in Sharon's mouth

===================

Daisy felt it was normal and immediately agreed.

Only when they arrived at the restaurant did Daisy realize that Sharon had not only invited her but also called Hill.

The atmosphere became somewhat tense for a moment. It's important to note that they were not on good terms in public.

"Let's sit down and talk, okay?" Sharon said softly.

Daisy was momentarily speechless. If you weren't here, I would have sat down long ago!

However, considering that in the eyes of outsiders, they hadn't reached the point of openly quarreling, Daisy sat down across from Hill with a strange expression.

After some thought, Sharon sat on her side.

"I don't know what issues you two have, but I hope we can sit down and talk. We used to have a very precious friendship, and I don't want to see you both like this now," Sharon said, leaning on the table with her elbows, her eyes drifting between the two.

Daisy felt the goodwill of the blonde beauty. Over the course of their friendship, she had long known that her initial suspicions of surveillance were just nonsense made up by herself. Sharon, aside from having a bit of a father complex, was actually a good friend.

Should she be honest or continue hiding?

Daisy glanced at Hill from the corner of her eye.

The female deputy still wore an icy beauty facade, but underneath the table, she gave Daisy a not-so-light kick and teased her legs.

"Cough, cough," Daisy pretended to cough twice. Delving into topics of each other's depth wasn't suitable for discussion now, so she had to explain from another angle. "Actually, we don't have any major conflicts..."

"Then you two?" Sharon clearly didn't believe it. With the strange looks exchanged between them, who would believe everything was fine?!

"Well, initially... it was just a minor disagreement, but rumors started springing from somewhere and spreading very fast, and we wanted to find out who was behind it. So, we've just maintained the status quo," Daisy said confidently.

After finishing, she extended her hand to Hill, indicating that their relationship was still good.

The female vice officer smiled and gave her hand a slight shake. However, in the blind spot of Sharon's sight, she used her nails to pinch Daisy's palm.

Of course, she knew that Daisy wouldn't cry out from this. She quickly put on a smile, covering up any unnatural expressions on her face.

Love was still in the theoretical stage, and Sharon didn't notice their small actions. She was lost in her thoughts and her expression was a little sad.

"Actually... I know who's behind all this," Sharon said, causing both Daisy and Hill to be surprised.

Daisy thought Sharon had discovered something about Hydra, while Hill was simply curious about the person behind the scenes.

However, Sharon's next words left them both dumbfounded: "It's Nick Fury!"

"Who?" Daisy was full of astonishment, immediately thinking, Could Nick Fury be Hydra? Was Pierce the steadfast backbone of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

The next moment, she realized that she was thinking nonsense. Comrade Braised Egg's moral standards might be a bit low, but he wouldn't be part of Hydra.

"Do you have any evidence?" Unlike Daisy, who simply believed that Nick Fury was not really a bad guy, Hill, despite working with the Director for some time, had her own principles and bottom line. She needed evidence for everything. If Nick Fury truly betrayed S.H.I.E.L.D. or did something fishy, Daisy might turn a blind eye, but Hill wouldn't. She would investigate to the end.

Sharon hesitated. When she first learned this information, she was conflicted as well. Now it seemed like the problem had landed on the heads of her two friends.

"I can explain my reasons, but I hope you both promise not to take any extreme actions. Think about our past friendship," she said very cautiously.

Past friendship? Daisy's thoughts automatically veered off course. She guessed that her "friendship" with Hill was still quite strong in the short term. She nodded and listened carefully to Sharon's words.

"The World Security Council has asked Nick Fury to select a successor, and both of you, and of course me, are on the reserve list," Sharon pointed first at Hill and Daisy, and finally at herself.

"Their dissatisfaction with Nick Fury has reached its peak. They urgently want someone to replace him, but they don't want a significant power shift. So, the chosen candidate must have the approval of both the Council and Nick Fury."

Sharon pointed at herself. "I was eliminated in the first round. The Council feared my aunt's influence would overshadow them. Now, the candidates are you two."

"Hill is highly regarded by Nick Fury, but he only wants you as his deputy. He has no intention of letting you lead S.H.I.E.L.D. He doesn't even trust you as much as Coulson."

Sharon looked at Daisy. "Daisy's advantage lies in being a minority. The Council doesn't like a white person managing such a large organization. At the same time, Daisy has very few connections, making it easier for the Council to control S.H.I.E.L.D. These are my aunt's analyses."

Sharon leaned forward and put Daisy and Hill's hands together. "I don't know the outcome, but I hope you won't resent each other because of this. Keep the competition within a small scope, okay?"

Daisy closed her eyes slightly, contemplating the implications of all this. She knew most of these things, but she had chosen to ignore them before. Now, with Sharon laying it out in the open, she was both pretending not to know and on the other hand, waiting for Hill's response.

"I will handle this matter seriously, but it won't affect our relationship," Hill promised with a double entendre.

Sharon looked at Daisy again, and she quickly expressed that she would engage in fair competition within the rules.

Thinking she had resolved a troublesome matter, Sharon was pleased and ordered the dishes. The three of them had a good meal to celebrate.

During the meal, Daisy asked about Sharon's plans for the future. Sharon, still somewhat bothered, took a fork and, imagining the steak as the head of a certain director, stabbed it several times, both front and back.

"What else can I do? I'm not like you, making movies and starting companies. I don't understand science and technology. I'll probably become a field agent later. Regardless of who becomes the boss in the future, you both must take care of me!" She mumbled with food in her mouth, somewhat unclear.

Daisy chuckled softly. "You're probably overthinking it. According to my estimation, Nick Fury won't easily step down, and the Council's plan will ultimately fail."

Then she looked at Hill with a meaningful gaze. "As for our Commander Maria going back and resuming her duties, the chances are high. Someone like me with no foundation will surely be kicked out afterward."

Isn't it just acting pitiful? Daisy thought it was child's play. She vividly recounted her tragic expulsion from S.H.I.E.L.D., even capturing Hill's attention because it sounded quite plausible.

However, Hill knew Daisy quite well. After a little thought, she realized she was being cheated and frowned slightly. "This time during the Nazi operation, everyone is praising your effective command. Your chances of winning are high."
