The first person Fury questioned was his old subordinate, and he believed that the most loyal among them was his old buddy, Phil Coulson.
Regarding leadership, Coulson had a prepared answer, "Sharon Carter will definitely be loyal to the organization when things will not go against her principles. When it comes to Maria Hill and Daisy Johnson, they will also follow orders. Miss Hill would be an excellent executor, while Miss Johnson is too aggressive."
Fury remained noncommittal, carefully noting Coulson's words and then connecting with the second agent.
"Miss Johnson's combat abilities are impeccable. With proper training, she could replace my position. The remaining two don't have much combat talent." This was Hawkeye's report.
"All are average. If I have to choose, Daisy is slightly stronger." These are the original words of Agent May.
"How much longer do I have to serve these three ladies? Boss you better send me on a mission soon," Black Widow was full of complaints.
Nick Fury listened to the reports and weighed the strengths and weaknesses of the three in his mind.
All three had strong qualities, no doubt about that. However, deep down, he valued Hill more. They had worked together for some time, and their collaboration was quite seamless.
But Hill is very assertive; she would not blindly follow orders.
Sharon had very few shortcomings, but her strengths were almost nonexistent. She was a jack of all trades but a master of none, which was a downside.
Daisy had her share of issues too. She was highly aggressive and preferred solving everything through combat. From the perspective of an agent, she was very useful, but as a leader, Fury felt Daisy would cause him a lot of trouble.
Headache! Nick Fury scowled, put away the files, and decided to observe for a while longer.
...
Back at the academy, Daisy's life returned to normal. She continued her martial arts and quantum physics studies without interruption. Considering many future possibilities, she also learned a foreign language, Old Norse.
"Why learn such an obscure language?" Sharon couldn't understand. Why did Daisy's hobbies jump around so much?
"Just curious, purely out of curiosity," Daisy explained with no sincerity.
Languages and combat were easy to learn, but quantum physics presented too many obstacles for her, and the progress of studying in the academy was too slow.
Moreover, many contemporary theories were wrong in her opinion. She really wanted to find a physics authority to help her systematically sort things out.
Daisy vaguely explained her request to Coulson. This guy seemed to her to be like a college counselor.
"Top physics professor? Aren't the professors at the academy good?" he asked.
She smiled awkwardly. Theories needed practical application, and with her powers, she could connect theory to reality. Those professors could only analyze from a purely theoretical perspective. To be honest, she wasn't impressed with the teaching style of the SHIELD professors; it was too rigid, strictly sticking to the curriculum.
"Alright, I'll inquire for you," Coulson agreed.
Daisy thought the good man Coulson would report, screen, find suitable candidates, and then convince them. This process would take at least a few days. However, to her surprise, she was summoned to the meeting room that very afternoon.
Not many people were present in the meeting room; surprisingly, they were all familiar faces.
Phil Coulson, Black Widow, Hill, Sharon, and herself—a total of five people.
Daisy wanted to say she wasn't going on a mission, but Coulson gestured for her not to worry.
He turned on the large screen, and several pictures appeared—a somewhat thin elderly man.
Coulson appeared to be addressing everyone, but he was actually speaking to Daisy: "Dr. Hank Pym, an authority on biochemistry, quantum physics, robotics, artificial intelligence, and entomology."
Daisy glanced sideways. She knew Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, represented the pinnacle of human intelligence in the official Marvel setting.
He belonged to the same league as Iron Man Tony Stark, Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards, and the Hulk Bruce Banner.
This person teaching her would be more than enough, but judging by the current situation, things probably wouldn't be that simple.
The original Ant-Man seemed to be in trouble and needed SHIELD's help to deal with it. Daisy nodded, indicating that she would participate in the mission.
Coulson seemed to not see her subtle movements, and continued explaining, "Dr. Pym used to work with SHIELD; he's our senior. Recently, he's run into a bit of trouble."
"What trouble?" When the mission was mentioned, Black Widow suddenly became lively. She really didn't want to continue teaching.
"He's missing. The analysis department believes he's been imprisoned by some organization or individual."
"Who captured him?"
"Don't know."
"Where was he captured?"
"Don't know."
Black Widow and Coulson exchanged information rapidly with question and answer.
"The last known location of Dr. Pym was his laboratory in Hungary. You can go there to gather clues." Coulson handed the tablet to Black Widow, indicating that his explanation of the mission was complete.
Black Widow asked in disbelief, "Us?"
Coulson showed his iconic polite smile. "Yes, the four of you. They are all still young and need you to lead the team."
Seeing Black Widow seeming a bit unwilling, his expression turned serious. "This is an order from higher-ups."
Daisy was speechless for a moment, what ghost higher-up! Combining a top agent, niece of a war hero, reserve deputy, and her, who was just tagging along? Besides the braised egg, who else could issue such an order?
At the same time, she gained a new understanding of SHIELD's efficiency. I'm afraid the old doctor had probably been missing for a while; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so coincidental. She requested in the morning, and in the afternoon, there was a mission.
Who knows how long this task has been sitting on Nick Fury's desk? What Dr. Pym is our senior, Daisy thinks that the braised egg didn't take him seriously.
She also thought about the configuration of the team. A top-level agent leading three not-so-green rookies seemed like Marvel's version of the Team Seven! She wondered if this mission was their introduction to the country of wave...
While she was thinking nonsense, the others were obediently preparing their gear, readying themselves for departure.
"We leave in fifteen minutes. Bring your weapons; this is going to be real combat!" Black Widow, slightly annoyed, instructed them from behind.
Daisy returned to her room, unsure of what to bring. Unlike the last time they went to Puerto Rico, where she was alone, now with an organization behind her, there wasn't much she needed to prepare.
She strapped the modified Chiappa Rhino revolver 'Love and Hate' to her waist. The Glock that every female agent had was tucked into her boots. She carried two daggers and bullets, stashing them in her backpack. Her combat suit and underwear were very soft and could be squeezed into the bag, so her preparation was complete.
She pushed the door open and found Sharon carrying a large camouflage backpack, just like the US military gearing up to leave for Afghanistan.
