MY UNUSUAL ROMANCE
Chapter 9
Eileen stared dazedly at the boy who just confessed that he likes her only best friend. She thought that Sean liking someone won't get as hurtful as she saw in those break-up scenes she's seen from the movies. But clearly, her heart was shattered like a broken glass into a million pieces. She never even liked Sean that deeply where it would go to the point that she would be having her first heartbreak. Heck, why must he like Olivia???
Her heart throbs at the thought where she has to help him make Olivia fall in love with him. Isn't this also a good thing? Olivia will get more exposed to the outside world if she dates Sean, since he's the type of person who's more approachable and sociable, just like Savannah. If Olivia can finally make friends and create a social circle with the help of Sean, it would most likely make Olivia's mother happy. Then, she can finally manage to fulfill the mother of her best friend's request to help her daughter mingle with other people.
Of course, there are times that she wanted Olivia to decide when and how she would associate herself with other people because you cannot force a person if they want to socialize with other people or not. But, Eileen just can't stop worrying how lonely it would be for Olivia in the future.
She prop her head onto the base of her knuckles as she let out a sigh, probably the 19th time. Then, she stared at Sean groggily again, her eyes seemed out of focus, like staring at the complete nothingness. Except, there's Sean in the space of nothingness. She sighed yet again.
Perhaps this state of her mind blocked her senses from the outside world, she didn't even noticed that Olivia has been observing Eileen the whole time.
"What happened?" Olivia asked.
"...Sean likes someone…" Eileen said, still not out from this foggy state.
Olivia finally snaps. "I told you already, didn't I? He clearly likes somebody else but still keeps leading you on. He's a player. A charmer." Her voice filled with spite and frustration gradually wake Eileen up.
"No, no! That's not what I was sad about, it's just…" Wait, what was she going to say? Why did she even say that in the first place? Aren't she heartbroken because Sean actually likes someone else, her best friend at that? Why did she even say it's not that she was sad about? Is it entirely because of something else? But what?
Eileen heard her friend sigh. "You know what? Let's go to the library. I'm sure there are tons of movies we can request from the library staff."
Before she knew it, Olivia have already dragged her inside the library.
As usual, the place is quiet and peaceful. It is a massive place with tons of books that are lined up in the shelves. The library was divided into 4 sections: Fiction, Non-fiction, Educational, and Historical literatures. There are a lot of tables and chairs covered with a light cushion that students may use, avoiding back pains when reading for a long time. There aren't a lot of students who came to the library, so this is the perfect time to watch a movie in the separated room of the library.
Just as they were about to go inside the theater room, Olivia saw Eleanor reading on the corner. Eileen noticed Olivia's eyes shift to the title of the book Eleanor is currently reading. Her companion tapped her shoulders.
"You go ahead, I'll be back in a bit." Her silky black hair fluttered away from Eileen's eyes, her figure getting smaller as she approached the girl on the corner.
Eileen entered the room first, politely requesting a movie to the staff. She sat on a soft cushion lying on the floor while staring at the library staff, searching for the movie she requested. Then, she sighed.
It's her heart throbbing again. The sight of Olivia going into somebody else's arms, leaving her in this cold theater room, imagining a scene where Olivia accepted Sean's confession, leaving her alone in this place for good. Oh no, she's being overdramatic again! Eileen knew Olivia will be back for a moment and shook her head, as if it would also shake away her thoughts and her throbbing heart.
She's even more confused. Olivia going to Eleanor willingly, Sean confessing to Olivia, making Olivia socialize to other people, all of it makes her heart break. Why? Is she that scared to lose her best friend?
She didn't know if it's because of her anxiety or if she's really that impatient, but she found herself walking fast towards the girl she knew since they were kids.
She grabbed the surprised Olivia away from the library, away from Eleanor, away from anybody else. They passed by the halls, going to an empty staircase where students believed that a ghost was lurking around the area. Perhaps that is why this area is empty.
Olivia finally yank her hand away from Eileen's grip, frowning with confusion. "Eileen, what's your problem again? What's gotten into you??"
These are also the questions lingering around Eileen's head. It seems that she already found an answer. However, she's still denying it, looking for other possible answers.
She gazed at her friend dazedly, her eyes out of focus again, a million thoughts going through her head. What can she do? There are no more possible reasons to refute this answer. All she needs to do is to confirm this feeling.
Seeing Eileen in this state, this greatly concerns Olivia, thinking how hurt she must've been when she found out that Sean already likes someone. When she was about to comfort Eileen, she suddenly felt a warm sensation on the side of her cheeks and closed the distance between the two.
Eileen acted out of instinct. She pressed her lips against Olivia's while her hands cupped one side of the other's cheeks. The kiss was just a mere peck until Eileen's desire starts to lose control. Her hand shifts from Olivia's cheeks to her nape, nibbling and tasting the cold, icy lips.
Olivia's body has never been warm. Although it's not as cold as a corpse, it would make you have an illusion that you're kissing a dead body. The corpse in question just stood stiffly, letting the other person nibble its lips.
Maybe it was Eileen's imagination, but she felt a hand slowly brush against her back, deepening the kiss more. This unfamiliar sensation between them might bloom more with familiarity.
