The driving instructor sitting next to him was throwing daggers at him with his glaring eyes as he held onto both his seat and the grab handle on the ceiling of the car. He was still breathing heavily, despite them being parked in the spot at the moment.
Jungsu glanced over at the instructor without turning his head as he was too hesitant to look directly at the man who looked as if he was about to vomit. Jungsu stared at the brick wall of the building they were in front of. Though his face might not have shown it, he was feeling quite miserable at the moment as he wondered how he had managed to fail so severely.
It had all started when they'd gotten on the road. Jungsu had made sure to buckle his seatbelt and turn his head around to look for any cars, being cautious of blind spots. Jungsu thought he was doing a good job, he wasn't speeding or driving recklessly at all. But what else was he supposed to do when he noticed a suspicious car following them. Naturally, he changed lanes, leading the driving instructor to question why he had done that.
"I find this lane more smooth to drive on." Jungsu had said, garnering him a confused look from the instructor.
From there, he had taken an exit that the instructor had not told him to take. Of course, the instructor had yelled at him and asked what he was doing once again. But Jungsu couldn't respond as he'd seen the other car following closely behind them.
"Stop this car right now Mr. Jungsu!" The instructor had screamed at him then, grabbing onto the handle of the steering wheel in a fit of rage. The car had only moved a fraction of an inch to the left as Jungsu had gotten the wheel under control, moving the wheel so that the car aligned itself back onto the road.
Things only got worse from there as Jungsu noticed the car moving far too close to them for his comfort. He could tell that the car was planning to bump into them, so, Jungsu sped up the car.
That was a mistake. Perhaps he should have let the car bump into them then, maybe he would've dislocated his shoulder again, but that wasn't anything he couldn't handle. Perhaps the driving instructor would have passed him then. But then again, if he had a broken shoulder, Jungsu didn't think the driving instructor would've been too happy.
After he had sped up, the car sped toward them at a much higher speed. As a result, Jungsu had sped up even faster. Before he knew it, they were engaging in a high-speed chase. Thankfully, they were in a relatively suburban area, and given that it was early morning, there weren't many cars on the roads. Still, Jungsu had to dodge several cars and made far too many sharp turns while skidding along the paved roads.
Perhaps his biggest mistake was when he started grinning like a madman. He couldn't help it, it had been a while since he'd driven, especially as he was then with no restraints.
Once the driving instructor had seen him, he was chanting some prayer loudly. Jungsu wasn't sure if the prayers were because of the situation they were in, or if it was because of him. He'd wanted to tell the instructor that he shouldn't be praying to god, but rather to him, as he would be the one to save him, but perhaps that was too blasphemous.
After he had overtaken the car and had effectively lost it once they reached an exit, Jungsu had parked the car in front of an empty building. He wondered who the culprit could have been, but figured it must have been another fellow spy.
And here he was now, with all traces of excitement having left him as the adrenaline had left his body. Now he was simply upset about the fact that he wouldn't be passing his driving test. He was happy though that there were no police cars present, and that there were no casualties.
"You..." The instructor trailed off once he finally pried his hands off his seat and the grab handle.
Turning towards the man, Jungsu pressed his lips together as he readied himself for the news.
"You failed." The instructor said simply as he adjusted the glasses on his face and looked at him with wary eyes.
Jungsu had expected there to be more screaming than there was then, but perhaps the instructor was too scared of him.
"I do have a valid reason for speeding, you see I saw this... fascinating scene..."
"I know we were being chased." The instructor said incredulously and Jungsu heaved a sigh of relief.
From Jungsu's experience, there were far too many oblivious people in the world.
"I will report this, so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself." The instructor said as he wiped a shaky hand over his sweat-covered forehead.
After they drove back, with the instructor in the driver's seat, Jungsu had bowed and said goodbye to which the instructor had simply nodded, still wary of Jungsu.
Jungsu was quite upset at not having passed, but he could always give it again in a couple of days.
Instead of going directly home, he made his way to Grandma's house as he knew the kids would be home on a Saturday morning. As he sat on the sofa with Ha-joon, he looked at the video on Ha-joon's phone.
It was a video of his interview with Silvia. Jungsu again was left wondering why the producers had so heavily edited his face that it was glowing brightly on the screen. He watched as he and Silvia made small talk and discussed his hobbies. He'd happened to mention that he enjoyed playing soccer when Siliva had asked him his favourite sport. That was a pretty generic answer as he knew many people enjoyed playing soccer.
However, now Ha-joon was looking at him with big eyes.
"Will you play with me, Hyung?" Ha-joon asked excitedly.
Jungsu thought that it would be a good exercise for both himself and Ha-joon so he agreed. While he would have to play with a mask and hat on, Jungsu wouldn't be inconvenienced as he certainly had enough stamina to keep up with a seven-year-old.
"I want to come too!" Jiwoo shouted from inside her room as she overheard their conversation, rubbing her sleepy eyes awake.
"Jiwoo, you don't even like soccer!" Ha-joon complained as he'd hoped to spend some time alone with Jungsu.
"I know! I'll watch then!" She stomped her foot on the ground.
They all headed out once they told Grandma where they were going, pulling on windbreaker jackets as the cold weather would certainly be balanced out by their heightened physical activity.
Ha-joon grinned up at Jungsu as he hopped in his steps, holding a soccer ball in his arms. Jungsu smiled slightly behind his mask as they entered past the fence to the soccer field. At the moment, there were two other players playing on one end of the field, so Jungsu and Ha-joon made their way over to the other end with Jiwoo trailing behind them.
Ha-joon dropped the ball on the ground and immediately jumped up and down in his place to warm up his body. Jungsu joined in as he glanced over at Jiwoo who had decided to sit farther away from them by the bleachers.
She waved back excitedly at him as she noticed his eyes on her, the doll in her hands bobbing with the motion. Jungsu waved back before turning his attention back to Ha-joon who had decided that he'd warmed up enough.
"That's not sufficient enough Ha-joon. You have to stretch before you start any kind of exercise or you could injure yourself." Jungsu said.
Ha-joon nodded and followed along with Jungsu's stretches.
Once they'd finished, Jungsu told Ha-joon to try to get past him as he would act as the defence. He put in less effort than he usually would, but since he wanted Ha-joon to learn something, he decided to use some more fancier footwork.
Ha-joon tried getting past him and Jungsu let him run with the ball for a bit before he stole the ball and stood in place, ready for Ha-joon to take the ball back from him. He didn't make it easy though as he kicked the ball up into the air and started juggling the ball on his feet and then shifted to his knees.
Ha-joon watched wide-eyed at the simple trick and Jungsu chuckled at his innocence.
He then kicked the ball above his head, and balanced it on his back, smiling as he heard Jiwoo cheering from the bleachers. Letting the ball fall down onto the back of his feet, he kicked it over his head once again and then started dribbling the ball as he ran at a light pace. Ha-joon ran after him with determination as his eyes followed after the ball. As Ha-joon ran beside him, Jungsu decided to do a quick roulette as he spun his body around and moved onto the other side of Ha-joon.
"Woah!" Ha-joon screamed after him as he ran harder.
Jungsu slowed down and kicked the ball back and forth between his legs, waiting for Ha-joon to steal the ball from him.
Ha-joon then quickly stole the ball as he swept his leg in between Jungsu's feet and started running with the ball. Jungsu ran after him lightly, watching as Ha-joon kicked the ball into the goal and jumped up and down in excitement.
Jungsu then glanced back at Jiwoo to see that more people had joined in at the bleachers.
Among them was a suspicious-looking man who was currently sizing up Jungsu. Jungsu narrowed his eyes at the man, not liking the way he was looking at him, while blatantly ignoring the stares from the group of girls on the bleachers.
The man, however, was not as suspicious as Jungsu might have thought as he watched with bated breath as Jungsu approached the bleachers.
