Note: a little cursing
The window finally gave way and Jungsu immediately jumped into action. Lifting up the driver from his seat, he kept his gaze downwards, focusing on the car itself rather than the darkness of the water. Jungsu grabbed ahold of the man from behind by his shoulder, and dragged him towards the window. The water was now up to his neck.
Jungsu fought against the current of the water as he pushed off the car and kicked upwards into the water. He kept his gaze up, fighting the instinct to look in front of him. He could feel them from the corner of his eyes. A hand, an arm, a leg, a face. And eyes. Eyes that seemed to cut into his very skin.
He kicked harder and harder as he could almost see the surface. With the additional weight of the driver dragging him down, he had to put in far more effort than what would be required if he was the only one. Still, he couldn't leave the man to die. Not when he'd gotten hurt because of Jungsu. Jungsu had seen the photo of his daughter in his home screen as the driver had pulled out his phone briefly. He had also seen the shadow of a wedding ring on his ring finger, indicating that he was either divorced, or widowed. Jungsu couldn't help thinking how the girl would then be alone in the world. Jungsu knew how that felt. It wasn't a good feeling.
Breaking the surface of the water, he turned onto his back, resting the man on top of him as he kicked backwards in the direction of land. He moved with the current at an eighty degree angle, landing farther ahead than the bridge. Dragging both of them out of the water, he reached under the driver's nose to feel for a breath with two fingers. He felt none.
Jungsu laced his fingers together and placed them between the man's ribs. Then, he started pumping his arms vigorously. He heard a sound, knowing that he had cracked the man's ribs, but still he continued. After a minute or so, the man was coughing out water and Jungsu sighed in relief. He had not wanted to breathe air into the man's mouth.
Jungsu swung his arm up behind him suddenly, blocking the rock that was in the hands of the intruder. He grabbed her wrist, narrowing his eyes as she grinned back at him.
"Aw. You still got it. I thought you might have gone soft in South Korea." Leeseo pouted as she leaned over him to glance at the man who was coughing but still unconscious.
"What do you want?" Jungsu said coldly as he brushed off her hand on his shoulder.
Standing up, he looked down at her in distaste, feeling a bitter taste in his mouth as he felt her eyes sweep over him.
"I'm here to take you back of course." Leeseo smiled. "You're lucky that my father is not here with me, otherwise he would've shot you in the head."
"He could try." Jungsu gritted.
"Normally I would've agreed with you, but the very fact that you're here right now like this... tells me otherwise."
Jungsu silently agreed with her in his mind. If he'd been paying closer attention he would've seen her car speeding up on them. Then at least he would've had time to take action, perhaps move the steering wheel so they wouldn't end up under water at least.
Jungsu patted down his pockets, hoping that somehow his phone might have survived in the water. Pressing the power button however dampened his hope as the screen remained black.
Looking up at her, he looked at her for what would happen next. He was half expecting her to pull out a gun and shoot him in the leg so he couldn't run.
She stared back at him with something unrecognizable in her eyes. As she continued staring at him, Jungsu reached into her pocket and grabbed her phone.
"Hey!" She protested reaching for it as Jungsu dialed a number out of her reach.
He dialed Officer Hyun-su's phone number, knowing that it would be best to call him before he called the emergency number.
After three rings the man picked up.
"Hello?"
"Officer Hyun-su, it's me Song Jungsu. I fell off a bridge, or rather my cab fell off the bridge and my driver is unconconsious. He's breathing."
"What?!!" Hyun-su screamed immediately asking for his location and getting into a car. He assured Jungsu that he would be calling an ambulance to take them to a hospital, Jungsu assumed the hospital could keep a secret.
As he hung up the phone, he looked down at Leeseo in question. She'd made no attempt to stop him from calling for help. She simply stood there and stared.
"You know... South Korea looks good on you." She trailed.
Jungsu wasn't sure what she meant by that as he looked the same as he always did.
"You should go now, before the ambulance arrives. I didn't say anything about you, so now, leave me alone." Jungsu pointed her with a look.
"Well, you know they won't be able to catch me." She grinned. "And who told you that you could leave?"
Moving in closer she leaned in to whisper, "I've got a sniper on you right now."
"Yeah. I saw that. But he seemed to have been far too distracted for a sniper." Jungsu said, causing Leeseo's eyes to enlarge.
"But who do you think will be faster? His gun, or my pen?" He said as Leeseo finally felt the pen he had been holding in his hand as he pressed it against her stomach.
She smiled then, a wobbly smiled as she exhaled shakily, her eyes filling with excitement.
"You never fail to meet my expectations, Jungsu."
"That's Seven to you." Jungsu shot back, glaring down at her.
Jungsu heard sirens then and watched as Leeseo lithly moved away. Shooting a grin before she disappeared completely.
The paramedics carried the man inside the ambulence, while Jungsu stood in the background.
He tried getting inside Hyun-su's car but was stopped as he pushed him towards the ambulance. He was pushed into the ambulance where he was asked a couple of basic questions to assess his mental state along with some other questions about any possible injuries. Jungsu shook his head, swallowing down the pain in his shoulder at the moment as he stared right into the paramedic's eyes. He squinted for a moment before nodding his head and jotting down something. Jungsu let out a breath. The last thing he wanted was for his body to be examined closely. Even if it was by doctors and paramedics.
He was told to lay down on the stretcher and so he laid there for the remainder of the journey to the hospital.
Once they were inside the building, Jungsu sat in the checkup room, feeling anxious as he watched the doctor walk in.
People were often wary of doctors, but not for the same reasons as Jungsu. Jungsu eyed the room in search of the needles that they kept. It wasn't that he was scared of the needles. It was what was inside the needles that made him so nervous.
He had once sat at a doctor's office similar to this one. The only difference was that the one he'd been in, had chains on their chairs.
"So, Mr. Song Jungsu, how are you feeling?" He asked.
"Fine. Perfectly fine." He responded in a tight lipped manner.
"Right." The doctor looked at him skeptically.
"It's just, I have a hard time believing that a man can fall from a moving vehicle, into running water without a single injury."
He assumed right, however, Jungsu was not going to point that out.
"Would you mind taking off your shirt?"
"Yes." Jungsu responded.
"Yes... Pardon?" The doctor asked in surprise.
"I do mind." He said, willing the doctor to go away with his eyes.
The doctor left then, only to come back moments later with Hyun-su.
"Jungsu? What are you doing? Just follow their instructions." Hyun-su said while reaching for his shoulder.
Jungsu dodged out of the way and moved away from him.
"No. Why do you need me to do that? I said I'm fine, didn't I?" Jungsu said in a hard tone.
"Why are you being so difficult right now?" Hyun-su grabbed ahold of Jungsu's arm and pushed him to sit down.
Jungsu shot up and went to move out the door when a hand reached him from behind. Grabbing onto him, Hyun-su attempted to drag Jungsu back inside, however was unable to as Jungsu remained rooted to the spot.
"Listen Jungsu, we simply need to check you for injuries. It won't take long."
"Then why the f**k do you have a needle behind your back, Doctor?" Jungsu spat out, moving towards the doctor threateningly as the doctor's eyes widened in fear and surprise.
"This is why Jungsu!" Hyun-su shouted as he pulled onto his arm to stop him. "You've been on edge from the moment we set foot into this place!"
"What the hell is happening here?" A familiar voice called out from behind him.
"Investigator! Help me!" Hyun-su pleaded as he clamped down on Jungsu's arm.
Then they were all holding down onto Jungsu. Jungsu's eyes met Ara's as she pushed against him. He didn't want to hurt her so he simply jerked out of their holds, despite three people being on him, and backed away.
However Ara's arm snaked around his as she pulled onto the collar of his shirt with her other hand and whispered, "Sorry." before she leaned in towards his face and pressed her lips against his.
Jungsu froze in shock, his thoughts drifting far away from him as he felt her soft lips against his. Then he felt the pierce of a needle and pulled back sharply.
"Hey! How much was in that needle?! That's not a normal amount is it?" Hyun-su shouted as Jungsu's vision started swaying around him. He felt his consciousness slowly drifting away from him as he looked down at Ara with a half-glare. His eyes too heavy to actually present her with the full extent of his murderous intent.
"Th-that... well these aren't exactly legally acquired you know!"
"What do you mean? What the hell was in that?" Ara yelled as she looked back into Jungsu's eyes in worry.
Jungsu couldn't stop his body from tipping forward then as everything went dark around him. All he could think of were strawberries at the moment, as the smell drifted its way to his nose.
