She really could sense things without being able to see them. The fact that she could specifically point to the cup and had even known her dad carried it showed that somehow she could see everything despite still being blind.
A proud look appeared on her father's face. He chuckled and passed the cup back to the young lady. "She lost her sight but had miraculously gained a strong sense of smell. She could see things by focusing on their smell. This must be the gods compensating her for her loss" he said. The girl took the cup and without saying a word, she turned and walked away with the tray of cups.
