We were surrounded.
I couldn't control my trembling legs. At that moment, I came to know true fear.
With a flick of his hand, the demon tossed Arkan's lifeless body aside. Perhaps that was what frightened me the most. He had been the only one here whose strength approached mine.
If he had perished so easily, what did that mean for me?
I didn't know what to do. My mind teetered between panic and paralysis. I glanced around, and what I saw shattered me. Despair was etched on my comrades' faces, their eyes silently screaming a question they dared not voice: What now?
And I, their leader, their captain, could do nothing to change that.
The circle around us closed in slowly. We had huddled together, forming a defensive core with our backs pressed against one another. Our weapons were raised, but our movements were hesitant.
