Despite his apparent arrogance and earlier provocations, he was merely buying time. He desperately hoped for the imminent arrival of Rakahn and Kyrian, critical support in this unfavorable situation.
Granted, he had only recently evolved into a mutant demon. His new body, though extremely powerful, was still alien to him. While it responded instantly to his thoughts, he hadn't fully adjusted to its sensations.
In short, Cliff had yet to master his new abilities.
That didn't mean he couldn't move with agility or fight effectively, but his potential remained largely untapped. And unfortunately, time was not on his side. Barely transformed, he found himself facing opponents far above his current level.
