Even though the fight against the variant demons was going relatively well for his companions, Geb had been sent to scout the surroundings. While patrolling the forest, he came across Vaeric, a young man from the Shizukesa clan. Alone and visibly terrified, Vaeric was guarding their loot, which consisted of weapons salvaged from the armory and barrels of still-plantable seeds.
Among all the members of their group, Vaeric was undoubtedly the weakest. However, this did not mean he was useless; it was just that, compared to the seasoned fighters of the fortress, the difference in skill was stark.
As Geb stealthily approached, he thought he could catch the young man by surprise. But before he could get close enough, Vaeric called out:
"Sir Geb, what are you doing here?"
The confidence in his voice startled Geb. Vaeric seemed to recognize him without hesitation, even from that distance.
How is that possible? Geb wondered.
