Night had fallen, and the cold was biting. Cliff and Rakahn prepared to head to the cave— the very cave where they had first met. Renald had informed them that Kido was there. So, they hastened towards their destination.
Cliff adjusted his leather armor beneath his cloak, feeling the weight of responsibility. Rakahn strapped his khopeshes with determination. As they traversed the fortress, Cliff turned to his companion and said with a touch of humor, "When did we become so confident about venturing into this forest at night?"
Rakahn nodded. "Since we've become strong enough to build a fortress that dominates the entire area, I'd say."
They exited the fortress, the frigid air hitting them squarely. "If Renald is to be believed, then Kido might be in danger," Cliff added, a note of concern creeping into his voice.
