Chapter 11 - The Envoy

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Nexus. Its Seven-year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before.

"Captain's log, Stardate 87083.2. The Nexus has received our first assignment; we are to rendezvous with an envoy of the Delta Alliance in the Kendran System within the Delta Quadrant. It seems the Vaadwaur are finally ready to settle down and join the Delta Alliance. With several members of said alliance on board, we are to assist in negotiations.

The Dyson Joint Command, where Nolan and I were colleagues, reactivated several Dyson Spheres around the galaxy, and in turn, their space folding gateways. Travel between the quadrants, including the Delta Quadrant, has significantly increased. What used to take generations to cross the Milky Way Galaxy can now be done in moments.

In the meantime, I'm meeting with my chief of staff in the boardroom to go over our plans, equipped with the best way I know how to appreciate the hard work these people do on a daily basis."

"By the Elements, Captain!" Heluna exclaimed, her face lighting up, wiping away flaky crumbs of a cheese and cherry Danish. "This is soooo good!"

Neil smiled, remembering the one quirk of the captain that didn't make his blood boil. "Listen up, everyone!" Lifting his Danish up like a glass for a toast, "If you don't have a serious physical regimen now. Get one!" The crew around the conference table chuckled, "Captain uses us like his personal test subjects, and you can safely assume that in every meeting, he will have something that will add inches to your waist by just looking at it."

Eroga grimaced at the tray of artistically crafted pastries on the edge of the table, "Humans and their…. Sweets… father and grandfather warned me of… this."

"Humans and their sweets?!" Anzyl piped up in shock, "Number 1, did I forget to wear my spots again?" He asked jokingly, leaving the conference room with a second tray, bringing the offerings of sugary bliss to the rest of the bridge staff.

"The adulation and addiction to high glucose substances are shared by a large majority of species, Daughter of Drex," Two of Three elucidated.

"And it's sooo tasty," Tey'un sitting on the ground bobbing his head softly, red syrup and powdered sugar on his chin. With his tall stature, sitting cross-legged on the ground brings him to table level.

The stoic and kermudgin face that Veirik always held lifted up his pastry and hesitantly took a bite. As the buttery flakes of puff pastry and tart cherries melted in his mouth, the bitter face melted and oozed in heavenly delight, and he could only mutter "woe…"

The captain returned with an empty tray. Sharing his culinary delights with his crew was always his favorite part of the day. It always brought smiles to, most of, the crew.

"Alright, listen up, people. The Vaadwaur," he announced, calling the meeting to order, and activated the meeting room console, displaying a brown-skinned alien, humanoid face and a signature cobra-like frill on their chin and neck, "30 years ago, this tyrannical race was accidentally woken from deep hibernation by the Starship Voyager on their long trek back home to the Beta Quadrant. Since then, they have attempted several rampaging campaigns, but thanks, again, to Voyager's crew and other members of the Khitomer Alliance, the Delta Alliance was formed and has been able to successfully drive the Vaadwaur back. It seems the only skirmishes now are directed at the Kobali on Kobali Prime. They REALLY hate each other it seems." The captain explained. "Our mission is to rendezvous with a Vaadwaur delegation, as well as delegates from several other races of the Delta Alliance, and preside over peace talks aiming for a cease-fire, and if all goes well, the induction of the Vaadwaur into the Delta Alliance."

"Lusalli to Captain," Anzyl's combadge chirped, "We're approaching the Kendran System, shall I take us out of warp?"

"Granted, drop us down to half impulse and all stop when we reach the rendezvous point."

"Aye, sir."

"Heluna, please report to your station and let the other delegates know we have arrived." Anzyl smiled at his crew and the mess of sugar and pastry flakes around the table, "Well enjoy everyone, and… be sure to clean up this mess please?" He smirked and went out onto the bridge with Heluna.

Anzyl strolled to his Captain's chair as the distortion of the Warp field on the main screen ended, and the images came into focus. The lush planet of Kendren IV in the distance.

"Anyone else here, Heluna? Or are we the first to arrive at the party?" Anzyl asked, his hands in his pockets anxiously dreading this conference.

"I'm not reading any hails or incoming messages on subspace chatter. We're alone sir." Heluna replied, he hands to the signature Starfleet communications earpiece.

"Sir…" Keten spoke up, "I'm picking up a debris field on the far side of the planet; it's big sir."

"Take us around, Lusalli," Anzyl straightened his uniform coat and got serious. "Yellow alert."

As the planet moved out of view, a massive debris field scattered and spread out over the planet's orbit.

"Nolan? What do you see?" Anzyl asked.

"Metallic compounds and alloys, all consistent with Vaadwaur, Kobali, Talaxian, and Voth ships, as well as various other Delta Alliance vessels." Nolan reported, typing away at his console.

Veirik spoke up, "Residual weapon signatures of those used by those races are confirmed Captain. But…" he typed away at his console confused.

"Scan for life signs…" Anzyl commanded.

Keten typed away and somberly shook his head, Nolan confirmed, shaking his head as well.

"Captain…" Diela shook her head, sitting on the edge of her chair, "I am not sensing anyone other than this ship."

"Sir…" Keten spoke up, "There's not even any bodies or remains of passengers, there's… only ship debris out there…"

"There were tens of thousands aboard all the delegations' vessels…" Anzyl said sitting down in shock "What happened here?"
