Chapter 3 - Learning the Way Of The Blacksmith

"Are you okay?..." Constantine waited for a reply but none came. So he decided to shake Clyde awake.

*shake shake*

"Hmm?!" his trance broken he finally woke up, "I- I'm fine," he replied. Constantine looked at Clyde as he was taking another bite of his guava-esk fruit. Constantine wanted to ask him what was on his mind, but they just met, so why would he answer a man he just met a few days ago who also wants to supposedly use him for his gain. Constantine once again started eating his fruit.

After a while, they finished eating their fruit, and once again returned to the blacksmith.

"Now the cost of each lesson from me will be one enchanted item. You can enchant an item at the beginning of the lesson or the end." Constantine clarified the matter to Clyde. No matter what, he could never scam a person or take advantage of someone in need. He saw great potential in Clyde, especially because of his keen perception. That's why he only asked for one enchanted item, which would be way way more valuable than 10 normal tools/items.

Clyde nodded to the words of Constantine as he said, "Okay, I'll enchant one at the end." Constantine hearing his reply finally went to the blacksmith Clyde following behind. "Let's start with the essentials of blacksmithing. That is Fire, Water, Earth, And Chaos. We usually use fire for normal weapons, pumping one's mana into fire is what helps create fire elemental swords. Likewise, they the longer to make and are not mass-producible, in turn making them not very suitable for ordinary blacksmiths like me,

You can make all of the other elemental tools in the same way except for the Chaos element. We will learn about that later. You already know about blessings/enchantments but in short, it is giving a special effect to the tools aside from the elemental usability. Now let's start with normal weapon crafting."

Constantine handed Clyde a hammer and then prepared some iron to be shaped into a tool. "Let's make a pickaxe first, I'll guide you on where to hit and how it will be shaped into a pickaxe shape." Clyde nods his head while the iron is prepared, which is used to make the iron bendable scares Clyde, so he stays away from it. Once the iron is brought to him he looks at it with deep concentration.

Soon his eyes know where to hit and where not. He specifically targets those places, and soon it starts taking shape, not even a minute is needed for him to create a pickaxe, all though he is occasionally helped by Constantine. Constantine stares at Clyde in awe as he sees this rookie creating with such proficiency, and not only that he also can bless these items. He now can confirm this child will change the world.

After the pickaxe is created it is soaked in water to finally finish the process. "You have done an excellent job, especially for your first time. I would've never guessed you were a beginner." Clyde smiles at his master's words. "Now since you don't have much of a problem creating normal tools, we should move on to creating elemental tools. Normally we learn it after 2-3 months of training making normal tools, but because of your proficiency we can delve into it already."

Constantine brings a bucket of water and leaks some mana into it slowly controlling it. Soon, it comes to the anvil that it will be shaped on. "Elemental tools are different, they can't be hit with normal tools. They either need other elemental tools to be shaped or mana itself to be shaped. So since we have no elemental tools at the moment let's use our mana." Constantine slowly uses his mana to naturally flow it into the lump of water gathered on the anvil held by magic.

Soon, it starts to take shape like a normal tool. "Elemental tools are stronger than normal tools, but they have a weak point which when hit, it instantly crumbles. These are called the point of mana entrance, it's pretty obvious as to why it is called that." Constantine uses his mana and finally finishes the hammer he was creating. "There, now we have an elemental tool we can use to shape other elemental tools." Constantine said panting.

He handed over the watery hammer to Clyde. Another bucket of water was brought. He took back the hammer and then said, "Now it's time to learn how to use an elemental tool to form another elemental tool." Constantine again used his mana to get a lump of water on the anvil, this time instead of using his mana he used his created elemental hammer to forge a pickaxe with water.

The process is much faster, as it is easier to do now. Soon, he's finished as Clyde looks at Constantine with awe and determination to learn. "Now it's your turn." said Constantine, smiling a little. But when Clyde went to take the hammer he was refused by his master. "Why?!" he asked his master. "You must learn to do it with your mana first, only then will you be worthy of even touching an elemental tool." Clyde now disappointed but determined as ever started to work.

"Very well I leave you to it. I'll be working in the other room, make sure to call me if you manage to do it. And make sure to pay before you go." Constantine said before he left to work in the other room. He had many orders from people to fulfill, and he had a belly to feed after all.

Clyde used his mana in every way he could imagine, but he wasn't even able to keep a lump of water in place let alone form something with it. So close yet so far it seemed, whenever he created a lump of water he'd have to keep that always in focus so it would not fall apart, on top of that he needed to form it in the shape of a hammer and then seal it up but that was for later.

It was too much for him, how could he take care of all of it at once, every time the water fell on the ground at the beginning or while trying to insert mana into it, truly a pain. He tried and tried as the day it once was slowly turned into night and he still kept trying.

"Did you succeed?"
