Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 : Class selection

[Planet Earth is exposed to the realm of the Eternal Nexus.]

[Please be prepared, you will soon be brought into the class dimension to choose your class for your journey. ]

The voice spoke directly, connecting to the consciousness of all living beings on Earth.

The system's messages were understandable not only to humans but also to animals.

Fear griped all their heart in the face of this unknown voice. They didn't know what the Eternal Nexus was and what it would be like merging with the realm.

Everyone was panicked and filled with apprehension about what their future would be. But not everyone was having the same reaction. Hidden in the vast amount of population of humans were readers that had read novels and knew what this event signified.

Excitement was visible to everyone who knew even a little about novels.

A second later, the world suddenly trembled. Little by little, everyone on earth felt the trembling and eventual massive earth quakes, shaking the earth and its inhabitants further intensifying their horror. Tsunami waves like never before lunged at every thing as if wanting shallow it all. Volcanoes erupted all over the world while hurricanes made the world truly seem like it was at its end.

'... I am going to die...'

'.... I am going to die.... '

As people saw the building that humanity had built using all their knowledge being destroyed within seconds in the face of these earthquakes, terror filled their hearts.

'.... No... No... No.... '

'... Don't break, stay strong... please...'

In the developed countries, people watched as tall buildings and skyscrapers were falling right above them, threatening to destroy them and turning them into meat paste.

'.... God, please help us.... Save us from the Warth of the world... '

Rocks descend upon the unlucky people of those developed cities, while all the people were praying with their eyes still open, unable to close due the frozen time, people who didn't believe in god saw that these huge concrete rocks fell on them but did not harm them in the slightest, instead broke down and slid beside them.

'... God... Helped us... '

'.. I pray to the god.... '

'... Sh*t.. I will definitely believe in god from now on.... '

...

People watched in amazement that several natural disasters that could have brought destruction to the world couldn't do anything to them.

But suddenly their vision changed. From their initial sight of various natural disasters of vibrant and variety of colours, they arrived at a place that was totally dark. Wherever their eyes landed, all they could see was nothing but darkness.

Several of them became scared when they suddenly arrived in this space from their initial frozen state.

They tried to move and found that they could. People, hoping that others were around too, called out, but no one answered them except for the system.

[You have entered the class dimension]

[You may now choose your class. ]

These words floated before everyone as they gazed at cards floating before them.

Not everyone had the same number of classes. Some had more, and some had fewer cards appear before them. The number of classes ranged from three to fifteen at max.

.....

Before Bittu, midair, floated five cards.

The backside of a mysterious card featured an intricate, mesmerizing design that combined ethereal elements with enigmatic symbols. An elaborate, swirling pattern reminiscent of ancient runes or celestial constellations, created an otherworldly aura. The color palette included deep purples, blues, and gold, evoking a sense of magic and mystery.

In the center, there was be a subtle, mythical emblem; a symbol associated with ancient lore. This emblem should be faintly visible, encouraging a sense of discovery and inviting the viewer to delve into the card's secrets.

Though unfamiliar with the symbols, Bittu sensed a profound desire stirred within him.

The feeling Bittu got looking at it was a blend of fascination and curiosity. The card's design evoked a strange feeling; a sense of being on the verge of uncovering hidden knowledge or unlocking magical potential. Bittu felt a connection to ancient mysteries, as if seeing a portal to a mythical realm in front of him.

Without waiting further, Bittu choose a class and waited for it to do something like, turning around and showing him what he got, or melting in his body or something like that, but nothing happened.

Confused, Bittu tried touching the same card again, but nothing happened. Bittu's excitement slowly died down as reality hit him. He felt as if he lost the last light, his last chance, in the darkness he was in.

His eyes, once filled with hope, now hollowed out, mirroring his sense of despair.

Bittu felt dejected and plunged into despair. He imagined himself finally able to live happily, but reality had never been kind to him. He couldn't even choose a class!

'Or...or maybe... I was rejected by the class itself.', thought in despair.

Bittu, who was teetering on the edge, on the brink of something indescribable, suddenly felt his surrounding change.

He felt himself walking further away from what seemed like life and arrived at the edge of life, gazing at what seems like death and darkness below.

Looking at the darkness, his legs went weak as his body lost its strength to stand up. Abruptly, losing the strength in his legs, Bittu slipped and fell. He was about to fall down into the darkness, but he at a critical moment with humane instinct to live, he used his hands to hold the edge of life.

With fear he looked down at the darkness but that changed into dread. Dread on such a level that he could not even imagine its extent, but here he was feeling it himself.

He moved his legs and his hands, his face full of fright, trying to get out of this situation and climb back up.

After a lot of struggles, he finally pulled himself up enough to climb it, but then he suddenly heard voices familiar to him.

'.... God gave you a change, but you aren't even worthy to accept it... '

'... What else to expect of you... '

'... You are not worthy... '

'... Useless... '

'... You should just die.... '

His parents, his brother, his sister, his relatives spoke at the same time. Bittu was shocked when he heard what they spoke, thus his balance broke once again, keeping him hanging.

Bittu heard these condemning voices for what seemed like an eternity. Each passing moment like a hammar on his spirit trying to break it.

The longer this continued, Bittu felt his spirit on the verge of breaking as his hand and legs once again slowly but surely lost their strength. When just half his palm was holding him from falling, he suddenly felt that dread once again. He finally understood why he was felling dreadful.

It was because he would vanish and disappear from the face of the world if he continued to sink in it. Not just in body, but in soul.

He shouted loudly, to deny what they said, to save himself.

'.. No... '

'... No... NO.... NO!.. '

'... I am worthy.... '

'.. You all are liars.... You don't love me..... '

'.... You hate me.... That's why you are saying these.... '

'... Aisha.... Right,.... Aisha... She will stay by my side..... She loves me.... '

'... Yes.... She is the one.... She loves me.... '

'.. I need to.....live for her.... '

Bittu was trying to hold on to his last straw, clutching on the edge of life as he felt these people pulling him down using their hand when heard Aisha's voice.

'.. Bittu.... '

Bittu, who was struggling desperately, was ecstatic when he heard her voice and looked up to see her face, which was smiling at him.

Bittu, flustered, looking at her beautiful self, a moment later raised one of his hand so that she could pull him up from death and save him.

But when Bittu heard what she said and did next was what destroyed Bittu's spirit completely.

'.... Bittu.... I don't love you.... You could die for all I care...'

Bittu watched as gentle smile on Aisha turned cold. His plams slipped from the edge. He fell into the darkness. He raised his hand towards her and wanted to ask why, when suddenly he saw Max arrive beside Aisha.

Max then looked at him with a smirk and then pulled Aisha in his embrace and then kissed her, which she too replied with a kiss.

*crack*

Bittu's spirit that was falling down in the darkness suddenly cracked right in between from his head to his neck. It didn't break, but it cracked like a brittle glass.

From the crack, white light came out that lightened the darkness. When the light disappeared, all of Bittu's relatives, as well as Max and Aisha, vanished from his surrounding.

*silence*

In this silence, Bittu was now hanging right between the line of death and life. Half his soul in death and half his soul in life. His body frozen.

*snap*

Confronted with agony, despair, and betrayal, Bittu's mind experienced an unimaginable shock that it broke some of his major nerves. It couldn't handle such intense emotions anymore so, it shut itself up making it so that only the subconscious mind and his spine were active to handle and respond to the body.

Bittu's eyes, that were already hollowed, now looked like it had lost its shine.....forever. He wouldn't be himself ever again.

Only something magical, something out of this world, could heal his current situation.

Suddenly, the same strange white light could be seen in the depth of Bittu's eyes. It was there for a just moment, and vanished just as quickly as it appeared.

".... Awtafsjnei... Ajsuhebrkdm... "

A moment later, Bittu's face had no sign of agony or despair at all. As if what happened earlier was nothing but an illusion. But he kept speaking incomprehensible things, things that only he understood.

"... Ajatueneid.... Ajstyendnjd..... "

Bittu has gone mad!!!
