Chapter 30 - I Challenge You

Bree still smiled, satisfied, observing her sister appear incredulous at her resistance.

"Nothing strange has possessed me except common sense. The kind of sense that made me think you're a wicked sister. I should never have been kind to you," Bree replied cheerfully.

"You look like someone else," retorted Amber.

"Hmm... Just consider me the one who used to remain silent when hearing your insults, lacking common sense. Now I have it, and I enjoy it, even if it makes me appear like someone else."

"What made you change like this?"

"I already told you earlier, Amber. Common sense. Do I have to keep repeating?" Bree yawned, feigning boredom.

"Now I realize that what you did to me before was wrong, and I will fight back."

Amber finally smiled. Not a sweet smile, just a mocking one, as usual, reserved for Bree. "I know everything I did to you was wrong, but I enjoyed it."

Bree smiled in the same mocking manner. "Then I'll enjoy this. Don't be too surprised when you see me standing up against all your insults after this."

Amber laughed. "It turns out my little sister has grown up and is now dreaming of challenging me."

"Yes. I have grown up, and this is the bitter reality where I will fight against you, not a dream. You can no longer insult me casually."Bree declared.

"Still can. I can insult you with the reality that you're an ignored and unwanted wife. You don't even sleep together." Amber chuckled, referring to her conversation with Blanche.

In the past, Amber learned from Irene, who supported her, that Bree and Rad were not sleeping together. Now, Blanche has persuaded Amber, and she knows this. Amber could be quite charming when she wanted something. But in any case, Amber still used that reality to insult Bree.

"You're wrong on one part. It's not that Rad doesn't want me; I'm the one who doesn't want him. I rejected him and sent Rad away. If you don't believe me, feel free to ask him." Bree now had ammunition to fight back, not silently accepting insults.

"You wouldn't dare," Amber exclaimed.

"Why shouldn't I? You've seen me now, more courageous in facing you."

"But why?" Amber now looked confused. Refusing Rad was certainly surprising for her.

"You don't need to know the reason. But why are you surprised? Didn't you reject him first? I still remember you were supposed to marry him, right? You were laughing victoriously when Dad finally proposed to me as the bride." Bree wouldn't forget how Amber made her cry by creating various negative possibilities about Rad.

"That..."

Bree raised her hand, making Amber fall silent.

"I can imagine how you felt seeing Rad in the church. The man you rejected turned out to be exceptionally handsome and ideal as a husband because of his position, which was equal to Dad's. The regret you felt must be endless. Regret for rejecting this arranged marriage."

Amber's temples throbbed while her jaw clenched as Bree continued her words because, of course, what Bree said was true.

"You must be very angry because I finally won and got the perfect husband. Especially since he should have been yours." Bree laughed mockingly.

"I'm not like that!" Amber exclaimed, stomping her foot. Bree succeeded in provoking the feelings she had been trying to hide.

"Alright, let's say you don't feel jealous or regretful about my marriage. Then why are you here?"

Amber's lips tightened.

"Don't say it's because you miss me or just because you're following Dad, who is strengthening his ties with Valois. You've never been interested in such things. Tell me what your goal is."

Amber refused to answer, then tossed her brighter-colored hair, saying, "I came here just for a stroll. I've never been to Marseille." Her reason elicited laughter from Bree.

"Pfft... Come on, find a better excuse. Do I need to state your reasons too?"

Amber's eyes momentarily showed panic, but then turned stern. "What do you mean?"

"I know exactly what your purpose is here," Bree stated firmly.

"I already..."

"I know you're here to snatch Radford away from me. You don't want me to be happy and surpass you. So you came here to destroy the happiness I have."

Bree could see from Amber's face that her guess was undoubtedly correct.

Whether in the present or the past, Amber remained the same. Everyone remained the same. Rad remained obnoxious, and Irene remained the same, intending to embarrass her even though she failed. Amber was no different. After rejecting Rad, thinking he was past his prime, now that she knew he was handsome, she wanted Rad for herself.

Amber wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Snatch Rad and destroy Bree. Realities that Bree couldn't see before.

Amber, who was slightly surprised by Bree's accurate guess, slowly regained composure and looked at Bree with a calm face.

"So, you already know what I'm going to do? It's easier this way. I don't need to hide anything from you anymore."Amber no longer concealed anything.

"You're so quick to admit it. Aren't you ashamed of licking your own spit? You've thrown away Rad; you shouldn't pick him up again."

"I discarded him because I didn't know what he was, but now I know he's not trash. Of course, I'll pick him up again."

"So low and disgraceful. Picking up something you've thrown away." Bree smiled mockingly.

"If picking him up tortures you, then, of course, I'll do it."

"What really makes you hate me so much? I haven't retaliated for everything you've done to me until today."

"I hate you because you exist. That's my only reason!" Amber snapped with a fierce expression.

Bree blinked, seeing how Amber showed no hesitation when saying that.

"Alright... Alright. I've also made a decision." Bree nodded several times.

"Decided what?" Amber suddenly became wary as she noticed Bree's eyes becoming sharper.

If yesterday Bree couldn't decide what to do with Amber and Rad, now she has. Bree wouldn't let them be together because she didn't want to give Amber the satisfaction of winning.

"I didn't want Rad before this because he didn't fit my taste, but since you aim to take him away from me, I won't let it happen. Go ahead and try to take him from me. Let's see who wins."

Bree was truly too bold because her relationship with Rad was at its lowest point. They hated each other and could only compromise after a long argument. But Bree would do anything to defeat Amber now. Anything. She would figure out the way later.

"You're so daring to challenge me now," Amber marveled.

"Of course. I said it before. I won't give in and stay silent."

"You must be crazy!" Amber heated up again, seeing Bree so relaxed.

"I'm not crazy! I told you earlier. This is the moment when I feel most sane."

Amber stared for a moment. "Are you really serious?"

"I've never joked since earlier." Bree affirmed again that she wouldn't back down.

"Now, if there's nothing else you want to talk about, you better leave! I'm busy!" Bree waved to Edmond, who was now on the sidelines. Moving away from the two of them.

"Fine. We'll see how it goes later." Amber lowered her folded hands, looking at Bree once again.

"I'm starting to miss the old you, this..."

Amber clicked her tongue and met a smile from Bree.

"I'm sure it will be like that because the old me was easy to defeat. You miss my weakness."

Amber looked a bit puzzled, but Bree didn't care. She turned around, facing Edmond again, ready to continue training.
